  1. Beech is the best young team, probably still 1 year away from hanging with WC or Bradley. Ryan will be down a little this year, but still strong, and have Eli King (2nd best wrestler in the state pound for pound) for his last season. Their kids program only had a couple of placers in AAU and has been pretty weak the last couple of years in youth wrestling. Baylor is down as well. Won't compete with Bradley or Ryan. McCallie will be their usual 4th or 5th in DII and top 20 overall. Watch out for MBA flying under the radar. Several underachievers that could surprise people. TN high, like Beech, will open some eyes in the next couple of years. Cleveland probably has the best kids club in the state but is rebuilding and won't see those fruits for two years. 2017 1) Bradley 2) Wilson Central 3) Beech 4) Father Ryan 5) Cleveland 6) TN High 7) Baylor 8) CBHS 9) Soddy 10) MBA
  2. Here's my best stab at overall combined rankings with graduates and returners. 1) Bradley 2) Wilson Central 3) Beech 4) Father Ryan 5) Cleveland 6) TN High 7) Baylor 8) CBHS 9) Soddy 10) MBA OW of all classes: Nick Boykin (Riverdale) if he returns, if not Eli King Father Ryan
  3. I'm assuming that is after he "dated" two of his wrestlers girl friends on the side?????
  4. You've got to be kidding me. Ethan Reeve took over a team from coach Morgan that took 14th in the country. A record that still stands for UTC!!!!. He single handed destroyed everything Jim Morgan built. He took a team from 14th in the country..... to getting beat my Carson Newman (NAIA) in 8 months. There is no way that UTC should NOT have been in the top 10 with what they had coming back, one year after Coach Morgan left. They graduated on wrestler, Charlie Heard. If Morgan would have still been coaching: Feldhacker 150# places top 5, Ben Reichkle 118# scores points, Ricky Talley 142# places top 5 (was ranked 5th), Bean 134# scores points, Einson 126# scores points. Rufolo 180 ??? scores points. they were solid in those weights. Others may have won the southern conference and qualified.
  5. Who is Ethan Reeves? What did he do for Tennessee HS wrestling?
  6. Credentials??? Probably a little stronger than yours. Won state championships when it was one tournament, before it was diluted, and wrestled in college .... Not because my brother almost.... could of... would of..... should of. Did you ever place in the Region? Sounds like you have an ax to grind with Newberry's new coach,
  7. Reach out to jeff jordan. He had some great teams at franklin and I think may have won a state champioship. I heard he lives in clarksville now.
  8. Who, besides Bono, are the "amazing" instructors? Looks like a bunch of guys that could not wrestle D1?????
  9. Any updates? It is hard to view brackets on flo. Not nearly as user friendly as track.
  10. No...please dont let cbg ref again!!!!
  11. 113- D1 had a returning medalist this year one (springfield)didnt make the regional.
  12. Brian, Here's what you are missing here. When you have tough matches, for 5 rounds, with any kid being able to beat any kid, it changes the tournament. You should know. You probably could have been a regional finalist and probably top 8 in the state under the current criteria. If it were one tournament (1) public and private, this years champ would have probably been Beech. Do the math....In the old days, if you had 3 kids place high.... you win. Do you think Ryan or Baylor would have had 3 kids place top three if it were one state? No way!
  13. I actually saw a ref (I think they called him "Possum", maybe one of Simpson nephews) tell a middle school kid, "Good throw son, that would have been a 5 point move in freestyle, but today it is going to cost you 1 pt". Interesting paradigm, it is rewarded some of the time and illegal others.
  14. I doubt that is it. coach Badon is one of the best coaches in the state and a good man. Clarksville is not the only "game" in town now as far as wrestling. Many newer HS's have excellent programs and may be getting some of the top kids. Artie Manning retiring probably doesnt help either. He is a dynamo, loved by kids and parents. He got kids out and they didnt want to disappoint him.
  15. Must be a Smyrna Thing. This made major national news. Basketball coach was suspended for the rest of last years season and all of 2015- 2016 for unsportsmanlike conduct. http://espn.go.com/espnw/news-commentary/article/12381643/two-tanking-tennessee-girls-coaches-suspended
  16. Didn't the smyrna girls basketball team get disciplined by the TSSSAA for delibertly throwing a game a couple of years ago?
  17. Was it a slam? Who was ref?
  18. If multiple scales are used, which I'm sure there were, the wrestle does have the opportunity to try and make weight on those scales as well.
  19. CBG, If you think that call was bad...it can only be worse. I saw a ref, that formerly wrestled for Dupont HS, many years ago in one of the most prestigious tournaments (tougher then state now), showing a full nelson penalty and allowing the motion to continue as if it were locked hands. He obviously never ref'd again at a high level, but that certainly supports your postion on the "good old boy network"
  20. Looks like they need to take a class "on class" from Ronnie Carter. IN the 70's, one of the best ever wrestlers from ryan, I think his name was Crowley, about broke an Overton wrestlers neck in an unintentional illegal move. Overton kid could not continue, so they re-started the match for 1 second and awarded Crowley the win. CLASS!
