  1. ...because where momma and daddy sits is what decides the game? That’s laughable! Give that town some credit. They have a football program because they built (and are building) one. Not because the Board of Education wrote a check.
  2. Maybe if Summertown had 3-4 elementary schools feeding their high school sports programs, they wouldn’t suck....oh, wait....nvm. On an unrelated note, I was looking forward to the LCHS/Summertown basketball game this year...
  3. LOL! I listen to every game I'm not able to go to. Those boys don't blame losing on the refs! They hate ALL the refs! Get over yourself and pay attention to whats happening with teams before March.
  4. ...and then got whipped again in substate because of some other excuse?
  5. Summertown definitely got out hustled in the first quarter. But if you think Summertown is 'bigger' in stature (not number of players), you weren't in Lawrenceburg last night. Lawrenceburg, TN that is.
  6. T$$AA already got their cut of the gate. They won't do anything once the check is cashed.
  7. Wasn’t directed at anyone in particular. I’m a casual observer of several teams. Just so happens that I’m closer to Summertown than most of the other teams still in play. I was more commenting on the board chatter over the season about Summertown’s only loss (to Gleason) as being the reason everyone in 11A could beat them (not really that bad...but yea).. Not saying you said that, just pointing out that it’s a slightly flawed comparison. Course it’s tournament time...anything can happen. Wednesday night’s game should be fun to watch. Hope I can make it.
  8. Not making any predictions with this statement, but if you guys are hanging your hat on the Summertown/Gleason Hall-of-Fame game, you'd better hedge your bets. Summertown isn't that team anymore (in fact they weren't that team 2 weeks before when I've been told they beat Gleason by 20 in a scrimmage). Just sayin...
  9. There are a few teams in 12A you NEVER look past and Perry Co is one of them. I’m sure Summertown is game prepping for them just like they would anyone. To not would be a mistake, IMHO.
  10. If either Pickett or Clarkrange slows their roll tonight to try to 'right' their brackets, not only should the coaches be fired, but they're showing zero confidence in their team. If they are a state contender, they have to beat them all anyway. They'll just have to prove their worth a little earlier than before.
  11. Only an extremely shallow benched team would play the same game plan and players in a hall of fame game and non-district play as they would after Christmas. Knowing the Summertown coach (from the stands) and the fact that they routinely play 11-12 players, the ‘Gleason game’ is a non-factor. Watch all the film you want. No 2 games have looked the same for the Lady Eagles.
  12. Off topic, but watching Moore Co boys play...is their coach as big an asshat as he comes off as? Screaming at the players like that really motivate them? I’d throw my jersey in his face.
  13. Agreed! This whole idea of year-round of any sport is driving great athletes to stop loving the game. Look at the success some single A schools are having with multi-sport athletes. Summertown just beat 2 top-10 AAA schools (if you believe the rankings at this point) to win a tournament last week. They are loaded with multi-sport players. A couple are 3 sport (vball, bball and softball). And I don't know of any that play club. You can have success without over doing it Not saying the extra playing time can't be good. But we need to slow our roll on the amount some of these girls are playing. Too many make their senior year and are done.
  14. Something most have missed out about the 11 3's is that she broke the record (10) set by the only starting senior on this year's team. If they're on, they can shoot the lights out.
  15. From what I hear, with the defense Summertown played, I don't know that Moore Co being down their ace would have mattered. Course we'll never know, but congrats to the Lady Eagles, no excuses.
  16. According to my sources in Summertown, Moore Co sent back 140 of their 400 tickets. Might be more lopsided in the stands than you're expecting. Either way, if either team doesn't show up, the other team will make them pay. Hoping for a good one.
  17. I've seen a few Forrest games this year. Yost is a player, but they ARE beatable (Summertown did it twice, I think). PC is peaking at the right time to make this a better game than it would have been 2 months ago. I predict Forrest will win, but I don't think it's going to be the cake walk everyone seems to think it will be. If PC plays with confidence and spreads the floor to players other than Brooks for scoring, it could be a game.
  18. Agreed. I hope Graves can beat her slump tonight. She's a player, but I've seen/heard that she has struggled to score the last few games. Don't know if she's been sick or what. She'll beat it, just hope its tonight so we can see a great game. Brooks is also peaking at the right time, so Summertown will have to figure out how to contain her without giving the other 4 a free lane. Hoping for a good game, either way
  19. Sorry, didn't realize that CoachT was the bastion of all things holy in sports and only a place to discuss the facts as they happened. Never let me catch you opining in here, hate to have to call you out for discussing possibilities. Might as well delete your account...
  20. Yea, whatever. Go beat your chest elsewhere. Fact is Loretto made a game out of what should have been a blow out. I was pulling for PC because they were the underdogs and didn't care who won (which is generally the case since I like to go to games I have no allegiance to). Yes a win is a win but don't get all butt hurt when stupid moves are called for what they were.
  21. If PC plays like they played against Loretto last night, Summertown will hold them. PC was up by almost 20 with like 6 minutes left and ends up winning by 3??? How does that happen?!?. If Loretto had 2 more minutes, they would have won that game and I would have put the blame squarely on the PC coach. Brooks is an amazing athlete, but the 4 fast breaks when up by 15 in the 4th is a little greedy and probably a bit nuts...especially when the shot is contested and the fast break just become a long turnover. If Brooks will dial it back a little, let the other 4 players help (and they must), PC has a good shot. Course, then Summertown has to show up and actually score (Something they like to take breaks from).
  22. There is no rule saying which team the MVP should come from. Summertown ended up with both MVP's this year and only one first place season team. Brooks is good and I'm sure she was a solid #2. If she had some help she could shine even more. Right now she IS the PC defense (and most of the offense) because she's running all over the place picking up the defense. Gets lots of exciting steals, but hard to see the team progress when it's around one player. Maybe that was part of the decision. Not her fault and I wouldn't have been surprised to hear that she had gotten it.
  23. You know, I've enjoyed playing and watching basketball over the years. I've enjoyed being a fan and I really enjoy going to high school games where I don't care who wins, just to watch a good game. And I realize that referees have a thankless job. It's quite funny sometimes to see an entire fanbase start screaming at a ref for a not calling a walk, when the player didn't walk. Or expecting a charge when the defender hacks the shooter. Being an unbiased fan opens your eyes to a lot of misperceived 'one sided' calling. But all that being said, I heard the most ridiculous statement the other day at a district tournament game. And I've heard it my whole life, but for the first time, I let it sink in. The person said: "Well, it's tournament time, they're going to 'let them play'". In what other sport does this make sense??!?! Why would the ref's call a state tourney game any different than they call game 1 of the season? But, they do! Touch fouls, moving screens, walks...all called at an almost ridiculous level at the beginning of the season, then we switch to NBA rules come tournament time. Now don't get me wrong, I like to see a game where the whistle is barely blown...let them play! But why change the way we call games at all? You never hear a baseball coach say 'well, it's tournament time, the strike zone just got bigger!'. Or a football coach saying, 'we can hold more now, it's end of season ball!'. I don't get it...at all. I've seen too many teams penalized for playing a good clean game in the post season in a way that would have worked pre-season. It's nuts. About to drive me to watch golf...
  24. Interesting fact I overheard last week and have since confirmed on TSSAA website: Frank Hughes has an enrollment of less than 100 students, 9-12. They put together some good teams (boys and girls) considering they have such a small pool to pull from. Kudos to those guys for playing with the heart I've seen the last few years, even when down 20.
  25. I don't know any of the politics behind the move. Don't care, really. But I did see the Clifton game where she hit 11 3's. she was 'on' and Clifton did nothing to get on her to stop the run. My observation was that there was no reason to faceguard her in the LC game or now, until she shows that she's having 'a night'. Her track record this year hasn't been dominant and in the games I've caught, she's only as much as a threat as any of the other top 7 on that team. The game plan looked to be to keep the transfer from looking good at her new home. Plain and simple. the Coach wasted a defensive player on a shooting guard that wasn't going to handle the ball and very rarely is any more of a problem than the other 4. Your mileage may vary, but I can name many other players in this area that I'd faceguard before her (until she got on a roll). I'll stick with keeping this in the category of 'cheap move' as if my opinion matters.
