  1. Where are the scrimmages and play days? Anybody have a scrimmage or play day already? Who have you seen or who you planning on seeing? I'm going to South Gibson a play day Thursday. Not sure who all is going to be there but heard Haywood and Bolivar.
  2. I'm following this post closely. I don't get to see any East Tennessee teams until state tournament.
  3. Not sure who they were talking about but I watched their PG last season and I'm sure he is one of the other 2. His name is Shaw. They were talking about a transfer from North Side. No idea who and what he is like
  4. some things I am hearing: South Side is going to be back to what we have been use to this year. JCS has 3 D-1 athletes on their hoops team Lexington has a legit post Dyersburg is the total package South Gibson has some kids that didn't play last year that will be playing this year. Humboldt is going to be scary JCM much imporved
  5. 20 years ago we played football during football season and got shots/hit baseball in our off time. we played basketball during basketball season and ran/threw routes/hit baseball in our off time and played baseball during baseball season and ran/threw routes and got shots up in off time. Today Baseball is out of hand. Basketball is not much better but is a little better.
  6. I'm a West TN Hoops fan too. Your spot on for your pre-season assessment. I track 3A closer than the other classifications. Humboldt is going to be legit. Coach Abernathy's teams always gonna be in the conversation for a trip to state. They go to the state tournament this season. Union City has a senior guard that is going to give team fits. Coach Cisco will have a fun season. this kid can playing D2 and potentially small D1. He is probably the best player in the area Gibson County graduated their big guy and their point guard so Coach Lowery will miss those guys. they will take a step back but still have a really good team. I look for Milan to be a contender this year. Coach James is a great coach and I saw them at Dyersburg this summer and they are really athletic and have some new faces. Chester County can go back to the state tournament but I'm not sure they win their district. coach McPherson did a great job last season and will have them ready. South Side is going to be young again but saw them this summer at Union and they will be so much better than last season. They have some kids that can play. Coach Fuller is going to have them ready. Last season is going to be a huge motivator for this team. South Side teams are not use to that. North Side graduated their best players and lost a kid mid season to JCS. They take another step back. Coach Woods as his hands full. McNairy and coach Riley lost a lot. could be a tough year. Same for Lexington. Not sure if they will compete. Hardin County is intriguing. Their coach did a great job last season and I got a feeling they are going to be better next season. Went to a region semi and got beat by South Gibson. Dyersburg with their big kid healthy wins that District going away. Coach Mahaffey is a great coach and his son will be district MVP. Obion County will be a surprisingly good team. I saw them at Union and Coach Turner is a great coach. They looked really good. Not sure what Crockett will be with Coach Rudesill but they graduated a lot. South Gibson looked like an entirely new team. I didn't recognize one kid from last year's district championship/SubState team when I saw them play at Dyersburg but Coach Runyon's teams always play hard and they really did play hard and fast. Very Surprised he pressed the entire game and I wonder if they will actually press when season starts. Coach McCord is a proven winner and will compete in that district. Plus Dyer County is one of the largest 3A schools in the state so they have a ton of kids at the school to pull from. Coach Chearis and Fayette Ware will be interesting. They lost Mr. Basketball so how will they react to not having him on the roster. They may win that District Coach Chapman at Haywood lost his son who was his best player and made them go. Also graduated a few other pieces. They will be good and use to winning. They have a chance to win that district as well Coach Crisp at Bolivar will be the same as they are every year. They are going to guard you full court, create chaos and shoot a lot of 3's. they will play really fast. They have a chance to win that district. Bolton will have a tough time in this district. 4A... No idea and honestly don't follow very closely JCS is going to be very good. Especially when they get to Christmas and have the transfers eligible. Coach Teichman is a great coach and will have them ready. TCA is going to be really good. Twins transferred in this season and rumor is they are both great players and will have immediate impact. Coach Williams is probably one of the best coaches in the area and his son can play! USJ will be about the same as last season. Methodical and efficient. Coach Jones teams are offensively so good at running his sets and they don't seem to mind to have 45 second possessions. Who did I overlook?
  7. And on top of all that I have seen places in West Tennessee that fires a coach because they didn't play "The right" kids... My hat goes off to all the teachers and coaches.. Under paid, over worked and in most cases, under appreciated.
  8. that is a problem. I have been in some gym in west TN that are pretty tough. I saw a high school game that had to be played in a middle school gym last season and it was probably the toughest environment I have seen in a while for the opposing team.
  9. My 2 cents This is not a Coach/Player decision. This is an administration decision. Rivalries are good until they aren't... Nothing like a good rival game. Let them play. Increase security to control fans and ensure chants and behavior doesn't get out of hand. Gotta be considerate of the fact that there are kids in the gym. then all that is left is to go to center court and throw the ball up.
  10. I would also say lots of 6'5" tight ends and 6'6' wide outs should be playing basketball and baseball. D-1 scholarships are so unfair. football gets like 85, basketball gets like 13, and baseball gets like 12... That does not make any sense to me. baseball gets the short end of the stick. There are tons of kids getting football scholarships that will never touch the field that could have potentially played college basketball or baseball as freshman.
  11. so basically if South Gibson and Dyersburg make it to the region championship they will go to state.?
  12. Bolivar, fayette ware, haywood and bolton... Who will be the district champ and runner up in that district? Who will they play out of region 8?
  13. With the new district line ups can they beat south gibson?
  14. some good hoops!!! Where will the boys league be played?
  15. A I was on a different level... LOL Agree though, you can play both
  16. You are sort of getting this twisted... I meant basketball but... 0 boys basketball, 0 girls basketball, 0 football, 0 boys soccer, 2 softball, 4 girls soccer and 5 baseball... safe to say in the major sports with the exception of baseball if you are hiring someone to win a state championship it will be a revolving door?
  17. thanks for the info. Hard for me to see teams play outside of west tn
  18. I heard Liberty Creek is ready to make some noise over there... I haven't seen them but was told by a middle tn guy that they may win their district and compete for region championship.
  19. I meant basketball. My bad. What about basketball???
