  1. Its hard to beat a team four times in one season. I have South Gibson by 7 in the first game. I think with SG already playing at McNairy last week gives them the advantage. #4 and #5 combine for 9 made threes, and they wont miss FTs down the stretch to give them the huge W. The next one will be an awesome game to see. Dyersburg and their shooters vs South Side and their athletes. Also, best two PGs in the region will be a fun head to head matchup to watch in Spencer and McBride. I have Dyersburg by 5 in this one. I think its finally time for Mahaffey to get to a substate game. The Williams kid with 25 and number 00 with 15 as Dyersburg shoots it too well for SS tonight. Either way I think the winner of this game uses this as a stepping stone and rolls in the championship.
  2. Adamsville at Southside - SS by 30+ Riverside at Chester - Chester by 12 Scotts Hill at Lexington - Lexington by 25 McNairy at Northside - McNairy by 3 Crockett at Obion - Crockett by 30+... Will be locked in after two straight losses Dyersburg at Milan - Dyersburg by 15... Milan has been playing better lately and Dyersburg might not be interested and will try and coast through this one. Looked unfocused/uninterested in 13 point win vs Obion last Friday. I think Dyersburg slips up once before they get back to Crockett. You can't coast this time of year and they seem to be doing that right now. That would potentially set up Dyersburg @ Crockett in a winner take all game next week. Westview at South Gibson - South Gibson by 15. Westview is getting better, but I see SGC pulling away late at home. Coach Wilkins will be emphasizing how much better Westview has gotten over and over in practice so his guys will be focused and ready for this one.
  3. You’re totally right bkbfan. It doesn’t matter how much you score in region semi/sub state games, it’s all about how well you guard. Look at Dyersburgs high scoring offense last year vs FW in region semis. Double OT game that finished in the 50’s. Everyone is so well scouted for tournament time that you have to be able to get multiple stops defensively. Everyone can score it if they are in region, so who’s going to be able to play good defense down the stretch? My guess is SS, Crockett, Dyersburg, AND South Gibson is a real sleeper.
  4. I have heard the LC coach doesn't really know what he is doing, but LC gets what they deserve. Ran your last coach out of town, and I am glad to have him back in Dyersburg!
  5. I just don't know how anyone can pick a team that doesn't buy in on defense (Obion). Yes, they can score, but are they willing to man up and get key stops down stretches of tight games? I think Dyersburg and Crockett have the kids that will take it personally that their man won't score when games get tight. I havent seen it from a Kail coached OC team in my memory. That's why I think they always struggle in region play.
  6. Trenton didn't lose a single player honestly. I saw them play my Dyersburg Trojans and every one of those kids are back. Yes, they are only 6 deep, but those 6 are pretty good. I just think they are right there with Humboldt and Middleton with TCA a good pace behind those three. Thats just me though..
  7. Why isnt anyone talking about Trenton? I think they're up there with everyone else right now. Have everybody back with a shooter, PG, and a big. They could make noise too.
  8. In District 13, since Dyersburg has the best overall player in the district (Kevin Spencer in my opinion), they have as good a chance as anyone to win the district. That kid can play some ball, and knows the game too. Dyersburg always loves to play defense, which keeps them in any game. If Obion buys in on the defensive end of the floor they can be right there too. I think it's easy to see the top 4 teams, but don't know how they will wind up. Right now I'd say Dyersburg Obion are 1a and 1b early in the season!
  9. With him back, I am calling it now, LC will win state during the 2018 football season. Those young kids are the real deal, and won't have to go through Peabody or UC. State finals at least, but I think they win it. Back to the glory days real soon for LC football.
  10. That freshman class y'all have is loaded. After talking to the former LC basketball coach, I believe the hype. He showed me videos of the Mays and Gross kids lifting, and those are the strongest freshmen I've ever seen no matter the class. If what he told me is true, the Mays kid is a future D1 OL. Not too many of them in 1A. And there are 9 or 10 in that class that started last year? Looking more and more like LC is getting back to the days I remember in the 80s. Another thing he told me was your HC is one of the best offensive minds around, and the DC is great also. Always good to have an assistant with tons of HC experience on your staff. I can't wait to come watch a game or two this year. Maybe they'll remind me of the days with Reese, Avery, and those guys.
  11. Just think about LC if they had Kevin Spencer and Tanner Sneider that's here at Dyersburg. Yes, I'm glad they're Trojans but add those two to LC and they have a chance at winning state. Without them, semi-final is best case, but I don't see them making it there this year. When the coaches son is a freshman and starting at quarterback, they will probably win state. Best middle school QB I've seen, and he absolutely tore up my Trojans last year. When he has all that talent around him, he won't have to be great as a freshman. Future is bright for LC football. Good luck to y'all.
  12. I think Humboldt wins it all. Who cares about refs missing calls, it happens every game. The cream rises to the top, and the better team won that game. The last few calls didn't win or lose it, those are just the calls that you remember. What about the bad calls in the first 3 quarters? Don't hear anyone talking about them.
  13. Haywood by 20+ Jarrett and Boyd are both 6'6 D1 guards that can score at all three phases. They have enough 3pt shooting so you can't pack it in, and their 6'8 freshman is legit.

The amazing thing about Dyersburg beating South Side is that their best player was in street clothes. The Spencer kid played football this year so he wasn't even playing. Add him to the team and they really have a chance to go deep in the postseason. Mahaffey's teams are always one of the best defensive teams around. Now he's got some kids who are battle tested. Look out for them.

    14A

The best single A district in the state year in and year out is set to have another competitive year. I think two teams really stand out, and then the rest of the pack will follow. Can a team from 14A make the state tournament after missing out last year for the first time in years? Only time will tell. Here is my predictions for this season. 1. Humboldt- They have essentially their whole team coming back, they have tons of size for a single A school, can out athlete just about anyone, and is very well coached. After watching them this summer at the Dyersburg camp, I am sold on them pulling it out, with UC right on their tails. This team has a chance to take it all if the ball bounces their way. 2. Union City- They didnt lose much either. Sisco did all of the dirty work, but they still have the talent to easily win the district and much more. Stewart is a pure scorer, you add that with the players around him, and they can beat anyone. The word on the street is the Polk kid isnt playing, so that is why they are my number 2, with him they are a total different animal. I also think the Weddle kid will break out and be one of the best in the district as well. Any Sisco coached team can never be counted out, and we will see them playing late in the post season. 3. Halls- They lose King and number 10 that could shoot it, but bring back their PG and 6'6 manimal down low. I dont know if two players can carry a team, but the district wont be as deep as usual so I think they get it done. 4. Peabody- They return absolutely everyone from last year. They have two pretty good PGs and the 6'6 Mccurrie kid down low. Coach Allen is one of the best coaches in west TN, and now he has some talent. Look out for them to be the dark horse this year. 5. Bradford- They get a big chunk of their nucleus back this year after finishing 5th last year. You know there will be major improvement since they have no football there. Their coach also is one of the best around, and he will always get the most out of his kids. 6. Lake County- They lost pretty much everyone from last years 6th place team, but they bring back Jamario Jones who is arguably one of the top two or three players in the district. Other than him, they will have to count on young players to step up and contribute if they want to finish this high. I only pick them at 6 because they always have athletes that can play, I just dont know who they are this year. 7. South Fulton- They return everyone from last year it seems, but those players never seemed to gel.If they have improved at all they should at least compete with any team but Humboldt and UC, and could easily finish higher, I just dont see it happening unless their big kid that was kicked off mid season is let back on the team. He can play some ball and is a big piece for them if they want to compete. 8. Greenfield- They have a new gym this year, so there will be some excitement, but I dont know who they have that can compete in this district. The best thing they have is their coach, who will always have them ready to play. If he ever gets some talent, he will be competing with the top, but this isnt the year in my opinion. 9. Gibson County- I put them here because they lost absolutely everyone. I have no clue who they have except number 10 from last year. He is a lefty that is long and a nice athlete, but I dont think he can carry a team by himself. It seems like another rebuilding job with young kids for Lowry.

Basketball season is getting closer and closer as we are eight weeks away from Jamboree action, and nine from hall of champion games. With that said, how does everyone think district 13AA will shake out? Westview and Obion lost some key contributors from last season, but still have some talent. Dyersburg and Crockett have all of their scoring back, and Milan and South Gibson have most of their core coming back. Here is how I think the district plays out. 1. Dyersburg- They have the best coach in the district-- Mahafey doesnt get enough credit IMO. Their seniors have started varsity games since they were sophomores, they have arguably the best PG in the district with Kevin Spencer, and they are battle tested after only losing to South Side by 2 in the region quarters last year. 2. Westview- They get Mcmillan and their PG back, along with the younger Sams and Justin Johnsons little brother. They can score it, but will they guard anybody is the question? Remember, they gave up 75 points in the second half of the state tournament last year. Probably have the most talent in the district, but defense wins in the long run. 3. Obion- They have their bigs back, but I dont know how good their guard play will be without Wiggins and King. If they get anywhere close to the guard play they had last year they could easily win it. That remains to be seen, and will be the x factor for them going deep into the post season. 4. Crockett- They have tons of athletes, but never can put it together it seems like. With the Branch kid tearing his knee up in football, they definitely will be missing a post presence. Their athletes will keep them in every game though, so they could win a few they shouldnt. 5. South Gibson- Without Dyess, how are they going to score the ball? I think Wilkins is a good coach, but the talent isnt there to compete this year in my opinion. 6. Milan- I dont know how much better they will be. Yes, they have everyone back, but they just werent very good last year. We will see how they develop, but I think it will be another long year for them.
  17. Lake County is a pretty good team. Two things they will be is confident and VERY athletic. If they can beat LA it will be a very good game between them and White County, and will be athleticism White Co. doesn't see night in and night out.
  18. What about Halls? I know I watched the King kid play last year and he can go, but who all do they return? It looks like the top 6 teams in the district will be battling for the top 4 spots. Should be a fun year (like always) in this district.
  19. The weather is starting to cool off, it's getting darker earlier in the day, and basketball is only a month away. The best time of the year is when you have football and basketball at the same time. Just can't beat it.
  20. So are you saying these new coaches are bad hires for LC? If so, they could be gone whenever there are new board members. Seems like a lot of dysfunction there. It's hard to win without support from board, teachers, and community.
  21. Maybe them going young will help with keeping coaches. There's always athletes in LC, if they could keep a coach for a while there could be success.
  22. From what I'm hearing from some buddies around that area is that they are going to have the best team they've had in years. If that's the case this district is more of a gauntlet than normal. You know UC will be very good, Humboldt will be Humboldt, LC always has athletes, GC's twins are the real deal IMO, and Trenton will be young but very athletic. Too bad only 4 of those 6 will make it to region this year. Every night should be fun

I think it's very well known Westview will hold the 1 spot and Obion the 2. After that I think it will be a battle between Dyersburg and Crockett for the 3 and 4 spots, and SGC and Milan being at the bottom. Just my thoughts. Anyone see anything different?
