  1. Regardless of the outcome of this game, in all honesty Westview may be a shoe in to get to the state champ game this year. I mean, who is going to compete with them out of the west in 2A? The 3 time champ (Peabody) is in single A this year and the only team that competed with them (McKenzie) is in 1A too. Maybe Huntington or UC? And Huntingdon lost pretty easily to McKenzie last week it sounded like
  2. So Westview is going to basically score the same amount of points on Trenton that they did on Dresden, and Trenton is only going to score 14 points.....I’m not sure which is more far fetched. Got to remember that it’s a Tab Vowell defense too you are talking about
  3. Yeah it’s definitely going to be a hard road in 1A for Trenton, maybe as hard as it was in 2A. They have to get thru teams like LC, McKenzie, Fayetteville, South Pittsburg etc. All of those teams would be championship threats in 2A
  4. I can understand holding players out who are hurt, COVID protocol, etc in jamboree. Thanks for the update BigPurpleMachine. Still feel like it’s going to go down to the wire and Milan will be significantly better than your expecting. First games of the year are so unpredictable. But if past years are a good indicator, the majority of the time line play is the x-factor in this one.
  5. In the end it’s a jamboree, and it doesn’t matter at all going forward. BigPurpleMachine, I’ve always respected your opinion on here. So I got to ask. Why are you so convinced Milan is down? They got a D1 player and a lot returning from last year paired with the coaching of Diffees staff. Have a hard time believing this won’t be a toss up game as usual?
  6. Two heavyweights in west TN going at it again first game of season! First, I expect it to go down to the wire as always with a few turnovers deciding the game. Second, I’m not buying all this talk from the Milan posters saying how down they are. Sand-bagging alert! Too much talent on that side not to be competitive in this one. Third, I have a hard time believing that their starters didn’t dress out in the jamboree at UC. Doesn’t make sense why you wouldn’t take the opportunity to prepare for the season opener in a live game situation. But if this is true, that was kind of leaving UC out to dry and taking away an opportunity for them to get better. Why would anyone want to ever schedule a jamboree with Milan in upcoming years if this is true?
  7. Not sure who said that 1A thru 5A but that’s not realistic for any school in 2A. I think you definitely made some valid points and Meigs is a very good football team. After watching that TC/Meigs video, I tend to agree that Meigs will be the best team Peabody faces this year, which is why it’s the championship obviously. Fairley was different, as far as athleticism they were clearly the most competitive. But as far as playing sound football Meigs looks better and I think Swafford kind of puts them over the top, he will be really hard to deal with not just do to his physical running ability but in that video he throws a great ball too. No doubt Peabody has to bring their A game, playing too good of a team. But why wouldn’t you think otherwise, it’s the state championship game!
  8. While this may not have been the matchup a lot people expected before the season in the semifinals, it should definitely be an interesting matchup! It’s the semifinals, so I think it’s kind of ridiculous that anyone expects a shutout or a blowout either. Riverside has home field advantage too as well as a lot of momentum. Trenton has a very good football team this year and it will be interesting to see their response after a very emotional and grueling game against Fairley, and if that game may have any lasting after effects. Should be a good game
  9. Whew, I’ve seen Peabody play several times this year. Your right, the underclassmen have a lot of potential and will be very competitive for sure. Not sure I’d say they will be as talented or more talented next year though. That’s no knock on them either, but this year’s skill players are all seniors who have played 3 years elitely. There is no way Trenton will just fall off after this year but to say they’ll be just as good isn’t real fair to the guys coming up based on the seniors success. You don’t graduate a class like that without some growing pains (especially replacing a 3 year starter at QB, which is a learning curve).
  10. I think this will be a good game. No doubt Fairley has athletes, which will make it interesting for sure. As far as being battle-tested, it’s true, Trenton hasn’t had to go through a lot of adversity thus far. Not sure if I’d say Fairley is real battle tested either based on how the rest of their region teams ended up. Game could go a lot of different ways
  11. I think any Trenton fans who really pay attention and understand what is going on absolutely aren’t taking for granted the opponents in the path. Winning state championships is never a journey taken without resistance. In a lot of ways I think if Trenton goes all the way this year, the opponents they will have to face are looking at least as hard if not harder than last season. Peaking at the right time, getting over nagging injuries, and luck is involved too.
  12. This game could go a lot of different ways. For UC to have a chance they have to control the ball with long methodical drives, because this year they don’t have the athletes to win going toe to toe. Their defense has to find a way to get a few stops too. But I just don’t see UC’s defense being solid enough to maintain the speed on the edge they are about to face. I’m going to say Fairley 33- 16ish. I hope I’m wrong though and UC gets the W
  13. How are Fairley’s special teams? As far as punting/kickoff goes... does anyone know
  14. It sounds like Fairley is a really strong football team, maybe the best coming out of Memphis in 2A in awhile. Looks like they had a lot of all-region sections. But just to put it in perspective, the three other playoff teams they competed with this year, all lost last Friday to the rural West tn region. But I do think they are definitely a threat to go a long way
  15. Baugus may not get the hardware just because Trenton’s offense is so balanced sharing the football. Not to mention he hasn’t played many full games. As far as quality snaps though, he definitely deserves to be a finalist
  16. I saw where a lot of posters here threw up a lot of stats for the year as a good predictor of finalists. I don’t take a lot of stock into that simply because if one of these players ply on a really good team, chances are they are rarely playing past halftime of the games during the regular season. Therefore their numbers are skewed
  17. Saw some videos on Wilkins out of curiosity. He’s going to be rough to handle. He’s got some wheels, probably one of those guys that once he gets past the line of scrimmage, he can break one. Not real sure about what else they have to compliment him. Not real sure about the competition he’s facing as well, but he looks good
  18. Just because one middle school class isn’t good doesn’t mean the program will fall off in high school. Really, middle school success doesn’t predict high school success either, and coaching is very important as far as high school football too
  19. I don’t doubt what you say in that Mckenzie’s Freshmen class will be good. But to own this district is a bit much until proven otherwise. Especially with UC and Trenton in the district.
  20. If GC loses this one are they for sure eliminated from playoffs?
  21. I can agree that the East has a lot of good teams this year and maybe the West is a little down in terms of quantity of solid teams. But one key fact is this, whoever wins the west just has to beat one of those East teams. They don’t have to go through them all. At that point, a lot depends on the health of the two teams in the championship game too
  22. Does anyone know the playoff scenario and implications for the final games of the season in this region? If GC loses this game are they out of playoffs?
  23. GCPioneer, first let me congratulate GC on the big win last week and on the improvement to the program, that’s a big deal. I think it’s great to see a program which isn’t a perennial power rise up and challenge the blue bloods. In one post after the UC win, it was stated that in the coming years Gc was going to be at the top of this region. I don’t doubt that statement or am disputing it, I just want to know why, considering the rest of the teams in it who consistently are pretty good. Thank you and good luck!
  24. You can dissect a game anyway you want to and with any close game you can point to reasons it should have been different. I’d even agree with some of them. But It happened. They get bragging rights for a year. Let’s talk about this season, got a lot of good stuff to look forward to.
