  1. I can agree that the top 5 can compete with 2a, now compete and beat the top 2a teams is a bit different than just compete with the average 2a teams though. That being said I think Huntingdon is definitely up there with the best 2a teams. It’s actually pretty ridiculous they play 1a, but I said the same thing about Trenton and UC a couple of years ago too
  2. Huntingdon and Cornersville could compete with 2a for sure aside from that, probably not. This was a more legitimate argument when Trenton and UC were in 1a and Dresden was still good
  3. Just in relation to this game, evidently TCA didn’t play their best game and had some issues whatever they may be. That’s football and life, not always going to have your best stuff. But in Fairness, you are not going to play your best when you play a good team and we can talk all day about what can happen when all things align. If that were the case, everyone is undefeated. Kind of insignificant to talk about that since it didn’t happen. Heck ask Trenton about the GC game, lot of speculation of what might have been, doesn’t matter though
  4. Definitely not offended, that's fine. Just don't agree. Bottom line that's sports. Shoulda, coulda, wouldas don't matter. Injuries are part of the game especially in football. Trenton had 2 of their best defensive players out for the season at that point, but no one has mentioned that. TCA and Trenton both had great teams and like it goes most of the time, they split. It was awesome to watch. Hopefully Friday will be the same
  5. 9 out 10 times TCA wins between those two teams? I went to both of those games and and the margins were almost nil. Both games were decided by less than a touchdown, kind of far fetched to say TCA would have won 9 of 10. This wasn't the Miracle On Ice ( Major upset)
  6. Peabody has some fast players for 2a football in TN. But they definitely don't have a bunch of kids running 4.5. Maybe 1 or 2 at best. That is D1 type speed
  7. In High school football you can't compare year to year, too much development involved. I think GC is better than they were last year, but I think Peabody is too, big difference between sophomores and juniors
  8. Yeah so I would agree neither team has played great schedules. Gibson County's combined record of 18-16, the majority of those wins were West Carroll and Lake County which maybe quality opponents in 1A but certainly not by 2A standards. Trenton's opponents are pretty lackluster as well. But I would take wins over a depleted Union City team, and Milan as more significant than anything GC has done.
  9. I was at this game. It's one thing to get beat by a far superior team, that's life and it happens to everyone at some point. But Dresden's conduct was pitiful. I wouldn't want my team to shake their hands either. They threw punches during the game, late hits you name it. Nothing positive would have came from the traditional line hand shake.
  10. All that being said I wish Dresden well, teams like Trenton need them to be competitive and good, it's turned into a great rivalry the last several years
  11. Well, while I can't get on board with the rain will help Dresden scenario I can see where you are drawing at straws trying to find something positive. Don't blame ya, been there before. But let's just call it what it is. when you lose to Greenfield by 28 your ceiling for salvaging the season is pretty low. Injuries, no injuries, team controversy.....doesn't matter
  12. Losing Yates is a big blow to Dresden as well as their starting QB, but even with them healthy I don't think that they could compete with Trenton this year....too much balance. Kind of reminds me of Dresden's state team 2 years ago. Not saying this team is going to win it all, but they have good athletes and depth across the board, it's not just one star player
  13. Tide21 that was a good analysis! I agree the QB is just as important. I'm just saying you can replace the veer QB with a good athlete as long as he can read the defense and make the pitch , passing is secondary. For the record I want to see Trenton win, time for a change!
  14. I would even go as far as to say that there have been a few times in the last 5 years where Trenton had more talent, but the fact was that the UC veer just takes you completely out of your game since it controls the clock and wears the opponent down, as well as putting pressure on the opponent to score on offense consistently
  15. Whew, before everybody jumps on the Peabody bandwagon for this one, as good of a rivalry as this has been Union City has won all of the recent games except for 2015. The veer isn't a regular offense and replacing a QB for them to run that offense isn't like Trenton replacing there's which is an offense geared more toward passing. To be the man, you have to beat the man. Should be a good game.
  16. Going to go with Dresden in this one. Not sure what to to make of LC after GC took them down to the wire. Is GC that much improved, haven't seen either play
  17. In regard to this, I think Milan will always be a solid prestigious program is West TN, very longstanding. But I do think the landscape of West Tn football has changed a lot in the last 5 to 7 years. It used to be Milan, Huntington and everybody else. Recent resurgence in programs like Dresden, Union City, Trenton, Adamsville, Haywood, SGC, Crockett, etc has created a lot of parody and because of this the days of longstanding dominance for anyone is unlikely. A lot of these programs neighbor Milan too. As long as interest holds out with these schools returning to past year in year out dominance may be less likely. Like I said no disrespect to Milan, great program and they'll be good again no doubt
  18. Kind of surprised everybody is going all in on Peabody this game. No doubt Trenton is peaking at the right time and and they are finally pretty healthy with full deck ready to go. But regardless, UC is UC and dictating the game against them is hard for anyone against the veer. So hard to stop and they have a way of wearing teams down in the second half. In my opinion this game is a toss up. Whoever dictates the pace of the game wins this one
  19. I just don't buy into to all this talk about what the score coulda, shoulda, woulda been. I mean both sides are saying it could have been different and that's just not realistic, mistakes happen during games and plays are blown up. Some teams score on ten play drives others rely on big plays. I just go back to saying that you just can't take a lot away from that first game. It could have went a lot of different ways
  20. Trying to predict this thing is just about impossible. I've seen this scenario play out before and you just can't compare the first game to the next, adjustments will be made, weather will be different, the outcome has different implications, and revenge can always add fuel to the fire. Regardless, I do think if one team gets well out in front this time, the odds of the other coming back is probably a bit too much to ask. Whoever has the updated game plan that dictates the tone of the game will come out on top if both teams stay turnover free. Regardless, this region was loaded this year, and while it was a shame that they couldn't meet later on in the playoffs, it sure makes for an entertaining year. The fact that Trenton had to go 8-2 to get into the playoffs pretty much says it all about the toughness of competing in this region.
  21. In all fairness to Mitchell, they weren't a bad football team and probably were one of the more solid Memphis teams we have seen in the last several years
  22. True, Trenton didn't play their best game, turned it over 4 times and just lacked intensity. They still won 30-0 though. And it's just unrealistic in sports for teams to not have down games, especially coming off 2 high level and emotional draining games and then you face an inferior opponent. Of course that won't get it done next week though. Must hit the reset button
  23. No doubt, Peabody doesn't the longstanding tradition of those programs, no argument there. However in the past 5-10 years the landscape of West TN football has changed. Programs like Adamsville, Dresden, Trenton, Union City have vastly improved and have been every bit as good as those perennial powerhouses you mentioned and have been better in the past 5 years in my opinion, 4 gold balls between those teams). That being said, I fully expect Huntington to bring one home this year so that doesn't really apply to them.
  24. This region has pretty much defied all logic all year. You could put the 5 contenders in a box right now and pick the winner each week. It's ridiculous to think that if McKenzie would have pulled it out against UC last night that Trenton would play Adamsville next week and the scenario would be if they win they're regional champs (based off of tie breakers) and if they lose they're out of the playoffs. Even so, this is the most competitive region I've seen in high school football around here based on the importance of regular season results.
