  1. I agree with Tar Heel, the talent is low and SD is in a down cycle. It will not stay that way, but I don't see the talent in the junior high programs like Ooltewah has. The talent is definitely an issue. I plan to watch Ooltewah and Blount this week. That should be a good one. Good luck to the Trojans against Bradley!
  2. I saw Ooltewah against Rhea and SD against William Blount and Rhea. I think Ooltewah has the stronger team and will dominate the govs. Good luck Owls!
  3. Deniron and the SD bashing. On and on it goes. For someone who is suppose to be friends with a lot of the SD players dads, it is getting old. Do you even know how to hold a football? Yes, many of us know who you are. Sad Sad. SD is down is football this year-it happens eventually to all programs. Don't forget SD had 3 TSSAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAMS LAST YEAR. Not bad for a public school this day and time in one year. Cheerleading (yes they are pretty but also talented atheletes). wrestling, and softball. Not bad for using knives hey Deniron. SD is low on skill athletes and it hurts programs like football and basketball but look back at their junior high programs the last few years. I have a relative on the team and another on the way. He plays hard and I don't appreciate someone like you of all people putting him and his teammates down. I know one dad who said...... you off your barstool! Weathers and Shumate leaving, maybe they will. I heard Shumate turned down a college offer this summer. Both are not cut and run types but at 65+ they won't coach forever. I guarantee you it won't be during the season.
  4. Catbiddle, if you are from Ooltewah as you say, you of all people should have some respect for SD softball. They have owned Ooltewah for a decade now. Your posts are always negative toward the Lady Trojans and your jealousy is very obvious. Soddy has a great program and tradition, but the girls are human and do lose a game every once in a while. I would not count them out yet. They have a tough road to the championship, but they have went that route before and won the State championship. Just get off your jealousy kick against Soddy. In fact, go work on your bunting and field some grounders.
  5. 7:00 PM Eastern at Soddy Lake fields
  6. "Poor Soddy is right! From following the Chattanooga area teams for some time, I don't remember Soddy ever losing to Riverdale. That is EVER
  7. Blaster, your initial comment makes no sense. The very nature of the Traditional State Tournament dictates that the TEAM State Champ wins by virtue of the performance of all individuals. So, the Bears won in years past with the help of the Irish, Mustangs, Pioneers, etc. just like Soddy did this year. Why even make your initial statement like it was the Bears vs. all the other teams. Soddy won by beating all the other teams and having more individuals place higher than any other teams individuals. I know you are trying to justify Bradley coming up short, but it seems the Trojans have had the same experience in years past. Your comment was unneccesary and resulted in poor taste. I hate to see a pouting Bear.
  8. Ron Shumate of Soddy-Daisy High
  9. "yall" need to read a book on how to talk properly. Do "yall" read books at Red Bank?
  10. The game was not a back and forth game. SD stayed in control the whole game and ended up winning by 10. Coach Shumate gets the most from this team and they play really hard. Congrats to the Trojans!
  11. Anyone who says Shumate doesn't match up in the credential area is a true moron. SD DAD won't be sorry about his son playing for Coach Shumate. I'm surprised the real estate hasn't skyrocketed up in Soddy land with people taking advantage of that opportunity. SD hit a home run with the "Big Shu"!! He will be good for Chattanooga high school basketball period.
  12. The administration, especially the principal, supports all the sports programs at SD. I played there and know as a player he promotes and supports the whole athletic program. Football always gets more attention, but that is the community more than the administration. Look at the coaching staff he has put together - great staff up and down the line. By the way, Weathers is not leaving SD. Just the rumor mill cranking out more fodder.
  13. I think both Chattanooga teams in this region must be suffering from injuries. According to the newpaper article, Soddy Daisy has 8 starters out of action, including the heart of their offense, Jared Dobbs the quarterback, and the heart of their defense, Justin Hart.
  14. I couldn't believe it when I heard Farragut 35 and Ooltewah 7. That my friends is a sound whipping. At the beginning of the year, almost every post, no matter what topic, ended up having discussion dominated by talk of Owl championships. It looks like the owls are laying low these days.
  15. The chief loss that hurt the Trojans was losing Justin Hart. He was the key player Weahters featured in the pre-season Free Press article, so that says a lot about how much he meant to the football team. He was a 2 way starter and would have been a chief component on both offense and defense. His hustle, toughness, and performance on both sides of the ball really hurt in the early season of this team. Most people don't realize the impact injuries have had on this team. There have been several key injuries, some like Hart and Shadrick have been for the whole season.
  16. What kind of quitter attitude is this sdballer? You are probably one of those who would quit the first time you lose. Ricketts, Atchley, and Lettner have more character and class than to turn to quitting. They will go to work and lead the team as best they can. That's how you develop winners - not whinners like yourself. Why don't you do the SD team a favor and you start going to the Ooltewah games and leave the Trojans to the task at hand - overcoming their mistakes and playing together as a team.
  17. Soddy is always good and a threat, but last year they had Zero seniors and only two juniors on the whole team. Sixteen freshmen, two sophomores, and two juniors placed 2nd in the state. At the beginning of the year, no one but Coach Kirk was picking them to be a contender. That is pretty remarkable when you consider how young last year's team was - State Runners-up. So, last year was everyone's chance for "payback", but the Lady Trojan tradition stepped in and made a statement. The team was devastated that they lost to Beech in the championship. They had beaten Beech earlier in tournament play during the regular season. The Lady Trojans are for real - every year. The opponents don't like admitting it, but they have their chances to prove otherwise everytime they take on the Lady Trojans.
  18. Hey, that's a good idea! Don't schedule Soddy. Like public schools are lining up to play the privates. I think a few more trips to Georgia or Nashville is a great idea for Baylor. I don't think the publics should schedule them in anything-good idea!
  19. I am 100% in agreement. Just like in youth league sports, when parents want to take charge, things get ugly. We need parental support, but sometimes adults get off track of what is best for the team. I thought Soddy played a hard fought game and deserved the win. The fans have become the issue and every school in the state has some fan who can be a pain.
  20. The McMinn fans have been horrible to SD fans each year we have played there. In fact, SD hates traveling to McMinn because of the bad sportsmanship that has become common practice. I can't believe this one sided version of our fans and principal. This is a principal that preaches good sportmanship to his students on a continuous basis. SD has won the TSSAA A. F. Bridges Sportsmanship award twice and has been nominated on other occasions. McMinn fans need to face up to another fact of the game, that being a McMinn adult male who went down to the SD student section and made threats to the students. Yes, a man challenging students to take him on. How can this be condoned? I saw the principal go down to the SD students and tell them to make sure they were acting in a sportman like manner and addressed with them the man's complaint. This whole McMinn mistreatment deal is completely one sided. No complaints were made during the game, other than the man wanting to beat up on students. All of these complaints came after the game, when SD won.
  21. The Owls are playing very well and with confidence right now. They should be hard pressed for McMinn to beat, but that is why they play the game. At this point, any one of these teams are capable of winning and moving to the next round.
  22. Yes they do, but some cannot let this year's players feel good about their effort and keep wanting to bring up previous teams and records. Everytime something positive is said about Soddy's team this year, the past few years comes up. The main difference in this team and previous teams is the attitude. It is like daylight and dark. Coach Shumate needs a pat on the back for that, regardless of the won/loss record. Let's forget about two years ago, five years ago, 10-20 years ago, and focus on the Region Tournament as this thread is intended.
  23. mnewballer, you must be a ref or something and failed your vision test. Do you see me listing Ooltewah in my reply about SD wins? You had better enjoy it while you can. All Shumate needs is some time. He has brought the Trojans a long way and is building a winning attitude more than anything. I admit, Ooltewah is very talented and well coached. I like pulling for other Hamilton County schools as long as the fans can be respectful and deal with success without being smart alecs.
  24. Hmmm, of the teams listed, SD beat Cumberland once; Red Bank twice; Central twice; Rhea twice; and Chatt Christian twice. Those teams alone = 9 victories vs last year's 4. SD did not play Cleveland, Bradley or Howard. Since Hixson beat Howard and SD beat Hixson two of two, it stands to reason that SD may "have a chance" against Howard. They got ripped off in the overtime game vs. Brainerd Tuesday night, even with Darden and Crawford sidelined.
