  1. I will be an idiot to say that zero of our assistants are ready for the job because I am talking about Jason McCauley as well. I don't know if Coach McCauley will get the job, so I won't put all of my eggs in the basket just yet. Other than Coach McCauley, no assistants are ready for the job. That's my opinion. In far as outsiders, I would like to see them make an attempt for Coach Swenson at Huntingdon, just to see what he says. That's my homerun person. Adam Yates (Lexington's OC, NS grad) would be 2nd. Obviously we will have to open our checkbook a little bit. If nothing pans out, we could go after Coach Hodum at Chester County and see if he is interested. Compare resumes and who knows what will happen. I don't want Bridgeman or Robinson to feel any pressure in terms of time. Yes, we would like to get a coach before Spring Practice, but if we enter spring practice without a head coach, the world isn't coming to an end. Don't take too much time, but don't want to feel like they need to make a hire by the end of this month. Another bad thing for North Side is the juniors have an option to leave NS and go to their new school (if they are affected by this rezoning saga). So you could see some very valuable pieces who are upcoming seniors transferring to Liberty and help them out. They have an option to stay. The Sophomores and Freshmen are the ones that are leaving if affected. They have no choice.
  2. I don't get on CoachT a lot now because 1. I'm not a big basketball fan. 2. I was going to wait until somebody says something because I really don't have anything to say. But I am the North Side poster that Mizzou is referring about. Honestly, this is not surprising to me. Coach Vowell has been wanting out for quite some time. And I believe if Coach Morris announced retirement at Milan, Coach Vowell will go ahead and clean out his office because that will be the type of schools that Vowell will go to. I don't believe Vowell will move to a school that is consider "downgrading" if that make sense. I do believe the rezoing has some to do with it, but very little. It will absurd to say that rezoing is the reason why Vowell is leaving. North Side is in different classifications as Liberty and Southside are in, but I won't be surprised if the Crusaders and the Hawks will jump up to 4A when the new classifications and the yadi yadi ya comes out. Players and parents took advantage of Coach Vowell. Asking for car rides to (during the summer) and home from practices. It doesn't matter where you live, whether if it's at the very north part of Madison County or blocks away from JCM, Coach Vowell will make sure you can find a way to get to practice. And if he has to pick you up, he will. That goes for every kid on the team. Doesn't matter where that kid is listed on the depth chart. North Side does not have a big booster club. For around 90+ kids playing football at North Side, only about 5 parents show up to booster club meetings. How does that make you feel as a coach? North Side and JMCSS does not really support their football team. Sounds weird right? But if you attended a football game at North Side in 2015, that gate money went to the athletic fund, and if you spent money on concessions, that money went to the band. North Side football gets 0% of money on Friday night. I don't know what your school does, nor should I care, but what happens here. You may wonder where does NS football get there money? Fundraising. So if I'm Coach Vowell I don't blame him. Stadium is in terrible shape. Promised new stands by the school board but that probably won't happen. Unusual field goal post, scoreboard is way back in the trees, attendance was down dramatically in 2015. Honestly, North Side High School is a comic show. I commented a few days ago about how much of a joke McNairy Central is, but NS is not far from that. As of right now, only 1 person is on the golf team. Girls basketball is winless so far, boys basketball is okay this year but will struggle next season. Girls Soccer is decent. Boys soccer is not what they used to be. Girls softball has been pathetic for years. And the baseball team only has 3 good players in 2016 who will all be graduating in May. Volleyball team is bad as well. So who is there to blame? I think have of it goes to coaching and have of it goes to talent, especially for all the female sports. That's my input on how our athletic teams are. All we have is football and ROTC (which I can careless). Band never plays during the games, and if they do play, they only play like 3 songs. We aren't a traditional band like other schools. North Side is a dumpster waiting to happen, and now since Coach Vowell is leaving, that may have started the fire. And what you see now is probably gasoline pouring onto that fire. So wherever Coach Vowell goes to next, I wish him nothing but the best of luck. If he goes to a school in Middle TN like Ravenwood, Riverdale, or Father Ryan, I will probably be the biggest fan of that team. He went 41-9 (62-22 career) over the last 4 seasons, which is ranked 4th in West Tennessee (excluding Shelby Co. schools). That's hard to do. I hope Mr. Robinson and Bridgeman does not screw this up. North Side football is still an attractive place to coach, they can't afford to buddy buddy and hire an assistant that has no comparison to an outsider that has a strong resume. Sorry for the long post.
  3. Well McNairy Central's AD Brian Franks will be the new football coach for the Bobcats. This was interesting because if it took this long, I would assume they will try to bring in an outsider. Don't know exactly how Bobcat fans feel about this move. There's a lot of time from now til August 19th, hope they can take advantage of that time. First 3 games for the McNairy Central Bobcats: August 19 vs Scotts Hill Lions August 26 vs Chester County Eagles September 2 @ Jackson Southside Hawks
  4. Is that the best opponent you can find? USJ is looking for an opponent on Sept. 30 (the same night McNairy is playing Middle College and y'all ignored USJ and went with them. What a joke! (I know you probably nothing to do with this but come on)
  5. Couldn't agree more. Very well could turn this program to the next level and be dominant. I would like to see USJ have a consideration of going back to D-1, but I will keep my 2 cents and say that won't happen anytime soon. I personally think it's bad for football in West Tennessee, but that's just me. Wouldn't be surprise if Coach Butler finds a quick exit since he probably won't win the recruiting battle any time soon. This hire by USJ turns the notch even more.
  6. I don't have a problem with that you're saying, but you are pointing out Memphis Mitchell because they are one of the teams that can win state. Truthfully, pretty much everybody in West Tennessee has open enrollment. Kids from Jackson can go to school in Chester County and Crockett County High Schools for a small amount of fee and the student has to provide transportation to that school. The fee will be around $500 dollars. Before South Gibson County High School was established, kids that live in the Medina city limits can go to a Milan High School (same rules apply). If they don't want to go to Milan High, they will have to travel 20+ minutes to Gibson County High School. Again, I don't understand why you are complaining when everybody does it, especially to Memphis Mitchell. That's one thing I want to know.
  7. When you have open enrollment, any kid across the city of Memphis can attend Mitchell High School. A kid that lives blocks away from FedEx Forum, the Liberty Bowl, the intersection of Central Avenue and Poplar Avenue, or even Ridgeway High School has the opportunity to attend Mitchell High School. However, there are some rules for this. It's not like a student can attend one high school to play basketball, not like it and then transfer back to the normal high school he is originally suppose to attend and play basketball. The honest thing is, winning attracts players. Look at Alabama in football, UCONN in girls basketball, so on and so on. That's reality as it gets. If you win and your school district has open enrollment, you're going to attract players. There's no if's, and's, or but's about it. Dyer County has open enrollment and they collect athletes from Crockett and Lake counties. If I was a baseball player, I would choose Dyer County over Crockett and Lake County. Who wouldn't? And yes, Dyer County is a county school. Since your name is UCsportsfan, it looks like you made be representing Union or Unicoi County. You need to worry about your Patriots or Blue Devils because they look to be an average team. If it is not Union County or Unicoi County, would you mind telling me which team you are representing? The team I am representing is Jackson North Side. We aren't perfect in our sports, but I am glad to tell you what our athletes do on the field (even though we aren't good except for football)
  8. First of all I believe AAU is highly overrated. I do. AAU is a jump-shooting league. I have a feeling that if Mitchell was just an average team, you won't be on here complaining. I also have a feeling if you were representing Union City High School, you won't be on here complaining as well. I said back in early November, Trezevant will destroy the 2A playoffs in footballl because they have 4A talent, playing in a 2A league. That's how you got to view Mitchell High School. Talent that is probably at a AAA school in basketball. Their talent is outstanding, and the sad thing is, you have to deal with it. Don't want to hear about you complaining about them (Mitchell) and recruiting. If you have a problem, then call the TSSAA and tell them, they will probably give you the same answer I'll give you, open enrollment buddy. Open Enrollment!!!
  9. The offseason doesn't begin in March/April. The offseason begins in January. For the teams that don't make the playoffs, there offseason begin the week after Thanksgiving. Fortunately, some teams just give their players the whole rest of the first semester in order to let their players be kids and enjoy time with there friends. Usually lifting weights for two weeks is pointless when you're about to take another 2-3 weeks for the Holidays. Once again, the offseason begins in January. While most new coaches are in the process of moving their family, some coaches have already moved. They are at there new school and hit the ground running. While, McNairy is patiently waiting for a home run hire. If McNairy wants to wait to get the "right" guy (knowing they won't compete in 2016), then I can understand it.
  10. JCS is a good basketball team. Don't let the 13-9 record fool yourself. They beat McKenzie and Huntingdon (twice). Incase you don't know, McKenzie only has two losses so far this season (the other against Humboldt) and they are #1 in 13-A riding a 16 game winning streak. The Eagles beat them by 20 on the road. Right now Huntingdon is #2 in 13-A and they are playing pretty good basketball so far in 2016. Huntingdon got off to a slow start and here they are. Granite, I don't know how good 13-A is, but if Jackson Christian beat the 2 best teams in 13-A, it something should be worth mentioning. I'm assuming 13-A is the weakest district in all of Single-A districts across West Tennessee. Have to respect the fact that JC played Westview and Dyer County. Westview is leading 13-AA. The Choctaws aren't the same team they used to be, but they are on a 3 game winning streak which one of those games include Hardin County. JC is playing better. They don't have the athletes that USJ and TCA has, but coach Byrd is doing something right. Won't shock me Coach Byrd gets "Coach of the Year" this season, this team went 10-17 last year.
  11. I agree. We are past MLK day and these kids still don't know who will coach them in 2016. Not trying to be rude but what's the hold up McNairy? Are they trying to hit the homerun? Most coaching positions across the state have been filled. We are within a week away from February, and primarily two months away from Spring ball. Time is ticking away. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK!
  12. Talent. I guess you don't understand that Memphis has the best talent across the nation and definitely the best talent in the state. They work hard in the summer, practice hard in October, play great basketball in November-March. What's the result??? State Championships!
  13. You think he's better than Jaylen Fisher, Parker Stewart, and Isiah Stokes?
  14. Why do you think Clayton Hughes is the best player for USJ? Just because he has a few offers, and can dunk? I've seen him play twice (both against TCA) and I don't think he is that good. Has trouble shooting the basketball. Yes he may get 17-20 points a game, but he usually dunks about twice a game and make around 6-8 free throws. So that hurts your actual scoring. He's a great player don't get me wrong, I just don't think he "wows" me... What helps his stock is that you can tell he has potential.
  15. I don't the gym has anything to do with it. I see kids play basketball at the Lift (big workout physicality in downtown Jackson) all the time. High school kids are willing to do anything to play basketball in a gym. Some gyms make people $2-3 dollars to play basketball and it doesn't seem to bother the kids at all. I think what happened to Liberty is that they played their course. What happened to North Side basketball? The girls are winless and the boys will be better if they had the guards to compete. Remember, both North Side girls and boys went to state around 7-9 years ago. They had Sha Brooks and Amber Penn representing the girls. And the Delk twins representing the boys. Maybe Liberty doesn't have the players they once had. Kendall Anthony comes to my mind. Curious to see where Southside goes because they lost Merriweather, Hicks, and McNeal. Maybe Liberty hasn't had the athletes that Southside has.
  16. Some of y'all guys acted like USJ will never be the same. It looks like they wanted a different voice and someone better. Don't give me any of this doctors and lawyers stuff, that's about as BS as it gets.
  17. Based on resumes, this is a homerun hire for USJ. Coach Bradley has now got to win State for USJ. Don't exactly know exactly how good USJ will be in 2016. They lost a pretty good amount of players. 88-30 in nine seasons. Won state twice. Great hire by the University School of Jackson.
  18. I'm confident that you will get your answer from someone who has ties to Chester County basketball. I hate to say it, but I don't believe there is a lot of Chester County basketball fans on CoachT, so maybe you won't get the answer that you are looking for. Chester County boys are not a very good team. Sitting at 3-14 and has failed to win a district game as of yet, maybe this "incident" put the icing on the cake. I do expect Coach Lambert to get a job if a coaching position comes available in the area.
  19. I'm just curious on a few things. First, obviously TCA and Middleton will both dictate to see who gets the 1 and 2 seeds, with JC and A'ville battling out for 3 and 4. SH, Riverside, and Madison will lay out the rest. 1) Where is this district tournament located? 2) Will y'all play in Memphis for region or go up to the UC, Gibson Co, region? I'm pretty sure they'll match up with the Huntingdon, McKenzie, Bruceton region and y'all play Memphis.. I do agree with the fact that they are no basketball posters from West Tennessee. Majority of it the boards are East Tennessee teams, when we know that West TN has dominated basketball and possibly will dominate basketball for the next several years...
  20. I will have to admit for McNairy is that they do play in the toughest district in baseball. HANDS DOWN!!! Moving on to football, McNairy has to change their offense. Saw some pretty big lineman for the Bobcats and the offense they run is pathetic. If the lineman has size, they need to have a good running back and be a run-heavy offense. I believe the offense dictates how big your lineman is, and how mobile is your QB.
  21. I mean deep in the playoffs, not in the first round.
  22. Just sitting here waiting for y'all to play Trezevant in the playoffs.
  23. So they (the TSSAA) are going to penalized a 10-0 football team in Memphis in the playoffs just because that school does not have a football stadium on the school property?
  24. Starting a high school football team is hard. Look at what Coach Stidham is doing at South Gibson... The program officially started in 2011, went 6-5. The following year they went 10-0 and was a one and done in the playoffs, lost to East Hickman. South Gibson is struggling in football. 0-3 in playoff games, and just winning 4-6 games a season in a tough region. I do consider South Gibson stable. A good youth program and a middle school team. The only thing they have to deal with is Peabody and Milan, that is what's killing them. I don't think they will get anymore transfers from Jackson like they had received in the previous years (I may get 1-3 players every once in a while). All South Gibson has to offer is a good running back duo in Tyler Dysart and Dre McAllister (both players are not originally from Medina). I guess you can say SGC is lucky to have them because they both transferred to South Gibson ready to play. Moving on to Coach Frost and Riverside Community went 0-10 in 2014 and 4-7 in 2015. So it's not like Community is doing great since Coach Frost's departure. Riverside has lot a lot. Hopefully this hire can bring back some positivity in Parsons. Maybe Coach Frost is committed in coaching with Coach Quinn for a while. Hope this works out! Looks like Riverside will a young team next season, so they will have to go through growing pains. Wish them nothing but the best of luck. This could be an accident waiting to happen but we will see! Good Luck Riverside and hopefully the school district in Parsons can look into a new football stadium for Riverside, this time at the high school.
  25. It is official, Riverside has hired Johnie Frost to be the new head football coach for the Panthers. Moore County is located in Lynchburg between I-24 and I-65 near Tullahoma. Don't know exactly how many years that Coach Frost has been at Moore County, but over the past 3 seasons, Moore County went 6-6, 4-6, and 6-5 with two playoff appearances. I think we can all agree on that Coach Frost will have a lot of rebuilding to do once Coach Frost enters at Riverside.
