  1. Have just been told cut off for AA is 702. Dyersburg is AA
  2. thats what i heard and the link to the TSSAA website showing Dyersburg AA along with Huntington now
  3. Hearing it will be higher at 703 or 704
  4. Be looking for a change in the numbers. Heard from a friend who heard from a friend.
  5. Moving up in classification i believe the girls program will continue to get stronger based on what i have seen in the probable additions headed to DHS. While not saying the Boys side will not have success, i do not think the consistency will be a high as the girls program.
  6. Yes, it's a 2 year hitch and then see where everyone is at.
  7. Be interesting to see which team is thought more highly of. Looking like the girls program on the move up and boys has remained a bit flat.
  8. Agree that Dyer County will not jump to AAAA. Been looking for a while not to have to play schools sometime more than double their size. The Dyersburg decision will be interesting.
  9. This is listing the top 4 finishers. District 13AAA is made up of schools outside Shelby in West Tn and was quite a bit of distance between schools with 5 in the district. District had 4 schools in Shelby County which were size wise sometimes double the student numbers in 13AAA
  10. Agree with the schedule should be strengthen. Has been an issue trying to schedule stronger teams because of couple issues. One, distance plays a factor. Location makes difficult to travel during the week but not so much on weekend. Which has brought on a second issue When a school regardless of distance looks at scheduling a game, many times the coach of the girls team wants to play but the coach of the boys does not or vice versa. When looking to schedule stronger teams even if a AA or A school, they would not agree. I know of a couple of schools with extremely strong girls or boys programs in northwest tennessee who would not schedule. I think falling into AAA will benefit DC a great deal. Some of those schools projected to be there will strengthen DC's schedule right away. Which should help with not only further building the program but increase local interest also which seems to have faded when DC moved to AAA. AAAA would be like you said very hard. Distance and schedule both.
  11. Very true for a period of time when great athletes come through as a group but more often than not over a longer time period smaller schools will not fare as well. Harder to build the program when there are less numbers to build with. That Greenfield team was a great bunch of players and i agree could compete with anyone. You can make a difference building a program from the ground up and it takes that from many programs to maintain their high levels but the more ground you have, the more ground you have to build on.
  12. Dyer County will be come in at 1125 to 1150
  13. Absolutely right. Shelby isnt going anywhere though. We going to be stuck with them and still have to deal with all the grief they bring.
  14. Problem for DC in AAA has been 2 things. Distance for district games and Shelby County. When your district has only 5 teams and the shortest district trip is right at an hour and the longest is 2 1/2 hours, it's not ideal situation. Not so much for the competition because DC actually has held up pretty good there being on top or knocking on the door year in year out but because the natural rivalries are not there close to home to bring more local interest which can propel a program. Having to play through Shelby County and never having an opportunity to host a regional because of location is obstacle always. You have to get into the Regional and win to get Sub State at your place. But playing schools in your Region with student enrollments up to 144% larger than yours is tough. I do think DC held its own but playing the Bartletts, Arlingtons, Houstons and all the rest aint easy. DC is going to come in at around 1150 on enrollment so lets see where the cut off is and what a district will look like.
  15. That's exactly right. A great middle school coach who puts the time in all year with all the age groups to the high school level will make not only the high school coach's job a lot easier but will build a program from the ground up and take it to the next level, possibly championship level.
  16. First, I think the safety and health of everyone involved is the first priority. BUT.. In a culture where the media over hypes anything they can to get you to watch their broadcasts and everything said has political overtones, do you really think anyone will take a chance on being the one to make a call and put themselves in the crosshairs if someone were to bring a case of the common cold into the arena much less an over hyped flu? No way. Instead you will probably find them in the line at the General Dollar loading up on toilet paper.
  17. HardinCo/Dyer Co are very even. On any given night just depends on who is hitting shots and the turnover numbers. Guard play leans toward DC while with Gill inside Hardin Co has definite advantage. Both squads are going to have trouble at Arlington. I understand Arlington not as big as in past inside but quickness at guard spots is very good and can shoot ok. If DC shoots well and gets the point guard to limit turn overs could be a good game. HC needs inside game to open up some 3s for shooters.
  18. Yes turnovers hurt especially late in the game when DC opened up a lead, up until then I thought was anyone game. UC is one good ball handler or floor general from being really good.
  19. Was extremely impressed by the young lady that lit DC up for 30 something Friday night. She was a pleasure to watch.
  20. Boliver did look tired in the 2nd half. They had a lead into the 3rd quarter but then shots seemed to be a little short. DC had more legs this time with the footballs boys back and playing.
  21. Agreed. a school with 1200 students playing one with 2400 is too big of a gap. Especially as Warmachince has made the case for a rural schools not being as competitive in basketball. I would make case the major sports such as baseball, basketball and football.
  22. How does one become considered traditionally strong? I think a major measurement in making that sometimes arguable judgment is consistently sending a representative to the Glass house and looking at least at the Sub State match ups. The large rural schools compete very well within themselves especially in their districts. But again in match up with, lets say, larger urban schools it gets to be a numbers game with the occasional break through from " rural" schools. More often than not, the substate will be dominated by the district with larger schools because of a larger talent pool. Its not that talent does not exist in rural areas but there just a greater abundance just by number of students in urban areas. Using DC and based on 2018 student enrollment numbers for basketball, DC has 1216 students which is right in the middle of their district of student enrollment. In order to advance to be able to championship level, they constantly have to face schools the have as much as 104% greater student population which would be Bartlett with 2513 students. Its not unique to DC or a rural thing, but its a numbers game also. I think you can back that up by looking who consistently comes out of the regions to Sub State and State Finals. Not taking into account the former Penny Hardaway factor and an break through from a District 13 little brother, more often than not, its the big boys in Shelby like Bartlett, White Station, Houston and others. If fair competition is what you looking for then you should be able to more closely pair schools up in basketball and other sports as you do football. Its kind of like if you have a choice between a good big man and a good little guard, who is the coach usually going to go with? The big guy. Just my thoughts.
  23. DC took Boliver by 15. Boliver lead going into 3rd and looked like that got winded. DC had guys back from football but you could it will take few games to gell. Lots of fouls called but seems to be common theme in the games I've attended.
  24. True. DC didnt have a problem and was highly competitive when were in a classification with schools closer to their current size. With a move up to AAA and being one of the smaller In classification they can be competitive but not as successful year end year out competing with schools double the student population. As is the case with other schools who are or have been just above the cut offs. It isnt a issue only DC faces. I didnt say anyone's district has schools has schools double the size, although there are schools who do as referenced by previous post, but referred to the Regional when the tournament starts. Although Memphis has schools that choose to play up classifications. But you can not really judge based on the ridiculous way players can transfer from school to school every year so a school of 500 students can have a collection of players were 15 players in the senior class go on to play college ball.
  25. Round 2 of the DC- Boliver series this year is tomorrow. Not sure if DC gets the guys back from football yet since just finished up Friday night but after the first game at Boliver being a close one with some iffy calls during the stretch run, I'm thinking DC takes this one by 6 to 10 points.
