It’s nothing new for people to pick against Cookeville. I get it. They need to win a few more of these big games to get some respect. This game won’t help them either. If they win then it’s just GH was overrated…haven’t played anyone. But this team is dangerous. Cavs need to hit a few more deep plays but they have a solid run game, great special teams play, and a very good run defense. That is a good recipe for a playoff upset.

2 weeks left to play and top 3 teams still have a chance to win Region. MJ and GH both control their own fate. Either team can win out and win conference. Cookeville will need some help. MJ appears to be struggling right now but still has to be the favorite. GH has the weakest schedule in 6A according to coacht. They get a chance to play someone this week. Cavs will be ready. Gonna be a fun one.

It was a good game early but Cookeville too strong in second half. LC is a good team but that offense is not built to play from behind. Cavs passing game and special teams play was the difference.

From what I am hearing this has nothing to do with LA. And more to do with an address issue. Also I don’t think a school can keep the player from playing if the player meets the TSSAA requirements of a bonafide address change. They can push issues and advise TSSAA of non compliance but they have no say in the rulings. Unless they can somehow get a ruling that the player has a coaching link, a legal move will make the player eligible. A paper only move or a partial move will result in player being ineligible. Those rulings and appeals are usually slow from TSSAA. But at this point there are 47 rumors so the truth is out there somewhere. But the sad thing is that the athlete was forced into this situation by actions of grown adults that aren’t coaches.

We have done well vs running teams. Passing teams have been the ones that have given us issues. We too will line up and run it down your throat all night. So this may be a low scoring game with the clock running all night.

This game looks alot more interesting today than it did when I looked at it at the first of the season. Two 6-1 teams looking to finish the season with a bang. Cavs have been playing short handed of late but still looking pretty good. Really need to find our passing attack in the next 3 games. Defense has been good enough and ground game looking great on Offense. LC is looking good on paper. Not alot of competition but they appear to be playing well. I will watch some film this week but this appears to be a completely different team than the one we faced last year. How do the LC fans think this one will go? And that drive is a fun one….

Wait I thought Cookeville played GH first… Surely you aren’t overlooking a team that has almost as many wins as all the teams you have beaten combined. And that’s Including the team you play this week. Wow.

This won’t be a game.

I don’t think it has to actually sell. But I think it has to be for sale, can’t be occupied, no furniture, no utilities, all belongings removed, etc. Otherwise everyone who wants to exploit this rule will just rent a year or two and play their season(s) then move back home.

Me too. lol *face palm*

It was a good game. The two bad snaps were back breakers for sure for the Green Wave. And yes #6 for the Cavs is a machine. He changes the game on both sides of the ball for us. Rarely do you see a 6A QB laying the wood on defense. Special player for sure.
-
Cookeville vs Gallatin should be a good game this week. Nobody expected the Cavs to do what they did last year on the Green Wave home field. But this time around I am sure they will be ready for the fight. Hopefully the Cavs will play this game healthy for the first time in a while. Should be a fun game especially with the Green Wave looking for some revenge.

Ok I laughed at the Capshaw part.

Like I said the UHS kids deserve it. If you get the sponsors the rest will come.
-
Thats not even a serious question....

Those comments are not coming from Cookeville people. There are some kids that transferred from Cookeville to UHS but it wasn't really their choice and I will leave it at that. Also the last Upperman Middle school team that was good was when Bronz was in 8th grade trucking kids like a semi going 80mph in school traffic. Avery Trace has been the best team in the county for the past 3-4 seasons. And most of those kids have came to Cookeville. The reason Cookeville is getting better is because most of the middle school talent is staying in Cookeville or playing outside of Putnam County in HS. Now before the coaching change that was not what was happening. Now about that UHS Stadium. Its not the school board that paid for Cookeville's upgrades. I know it has been brought up before but the CHS booster club brings in HUGE money every year and that is the reason we have the field we have. But the good news is that I have seen some recent promo videos from UHS parents to get sponsors for updating their field and score board. I hope they get it. They definitely have a top notch program on the field. Its time the field quality matched the quality of football being played.
-
They definitely going to miss Mullins. But they have alot of pieces to work with. If they can find a PG that can get to the rim and open up those shooters they will be tough to handle as usual. And I think Johnson will have a huge year this year. She looked good this summer and is so stinking fast.

Mt Juliet at Cookeville............

MJ controlled the game from the start. Cavs made noise late but never truly threatened the Bears. MJ Scored 17 pts off of 3 turnovers by the Cavs which was the difference in the game. Nail in the coffin was the Pick 6 after Cavs got first and goal and failed to convert. After Cavs RB1 went down in first couple series, the run game did nothing for most of the game. Cavs also showed off their future gun slinger ‘27 QB who looked really good in this game. MJ has a great team and Cookeville has a lot of things to improve on but I think they can make the next jump by cleaning up a few things. But we still have a long way to go. -

Both teams have gotten better but the MJ game last year was Cookeville's worst game of the season. Part of that was because of MJ's defense but our QB was injured coming into that game and played mostly on one leg. That had a big factor in how poorly we played. It was also a road game last year and a home game this year. And the biggest change is that you will get to see what 6 does on defense this year. Coaches played him limited snaps on D last year. The entire conference will see that 6 is one of the best offensive and defensive players in this conference. So there's lots of reasons I think it will be closer than last year but I do think MJ is the favorite. For me this game is a measuring stick for the Cavs. We get to see how much we have progressed. Cookeville really started to roll after that game last year so I hope we build off this game for the rest of the season again. If it is a competitive football game for 4 quarters I will be happy. If it is close late in the game anything can happen. But MJ is very good. -

Cookeville will line up and play smash mouth football. Thats a given. And with a P5 LT we will make some holes. But I think we are going to have to open up the playbook for a team as good as MJ. -
6th grade players aren’t usually an age group I follow frequently. I haven’t seen this team play yet but I do know that Upperman hasn’t had the best 8th grade team in Putnam County since maybe Abigail was in 8th grade. Maybe before that…. It’s been a while. Coach Vann is a BIG reason Cookeville has been reloading every year.

Not sure how this game will go. Cookeville has a passing game but we haven’t seen it yet. They haven’t needed to use it so far. But I don’t think Cookeville can be one dimensional and win this game. After watching film it’s easy to see MJ line play is very good. And the QB is very good as well. Going to be hard to keep them under 28 pts. If Cookeville is run only Friday night then they would need the score to be low to stay in this game. But if they hit some deep throws they have a chance. A lot things have to go right for the Cavs to win this game. But one thing is for sure the Cavs will play disciplined, hard nosed football for 4 quarters. I am excited to see how the game plays out. There will be some hitting in this game!! -
Macon County travels to Upperman 9/6

Ok I laughed. But to put in perspective he would be more like Jennings at UT who played QB/S in HS and WR at UT and NFL. He is a great athlete but probably projects more of a RB/WR/TE/LB/DE at next level. Unless the team has an offense like Air Force. -
I never said anything about Cookeville winning or losing the game. I said that I hope we show up ready to play. If we don’t show up ready, we will get thrashed but we do have enough talent to keep the game close if we play our best game. And I do agree that if MJ doesn’t win this game big you can’t think you are going to get past Oakland. Cookeville is a lot better in all phases but we haven’t played anyone at the level of MJ this season so we get to see how far we have come.
