  1. Imagine 3 Public Classes, 16 Districts with the top 2 in from each. High stakes, high drama, big games every round... there is a reason attendance is terrible in this system. Nobody likes to watch a blowout against a terrible 4 seed in typically terrible weather. Then factor in the potential for 50+ quality bowl games for the teams left out, and you can see where T$$AA could make up the revenue by sanctioning the bowls. People would go watch them as well because that 6, 7, and maybe 8 win team will have something meaningful to play for against another solid opponent. LITERALLY 2/3 of public schools get into the playoffs right now, no matter what... It is pathetic to watch these blowouts in the first 2 rounds...T$$AA is hurting the game. There are less than 300 public high schools that play football... We don't need more than 3, maximum 4 classes in this state. Average margin of victory in 5A Round 1 was 24 points and 6A Round 1 was 27 points!!!
  2. Think about the money they would make IF they cut it down to 3 public classes and 2 private classes. Attendance is declining year over year because of this farce of a playoff system. Currently, approximately 2/3 of public schools get in!!! With 3 classes there would be 96 slots total with ~300 schools vying to get in. That would leave nearly 100 schools with winning records out, every year. That would leave the door open for 50 quality bowl games, that the T$$AA could get a cut of. I would wager a lot of money that a lot more people would come out to see some locally flavored bowl with two 7 win teams instead of seeing a 2 or 3 win team getting hammered by the 1 seed in another region. This year also made the case, at least in 5A to seed the tournament. It was a travesty to watch Powell, West, and South Doyle sitting at home, when all 3 would have beaten Summit in much the same way that Central did.
  3. I have been around football as a player, coach, or fan for 25 years. Having watched the Title Games the last few years, here are some observations, that if we are being honest with ourselves, are absolutely accurate. The games were: anti-climactic not very competitive on the whole you could combine 1A/2A, 3A/4A, 5A/6A and had similar results. This year for example, Lake County likely wins 1A/2A finalists, Alcoa easily wins 3A/4A, and Maryville easily wins 5A/6A.
  4. I think Gibbs or Halls vs. Summit would have been very interesting. Everyone above them on your list wins a match-up with summit by double digits.
  5. Clinton's stadium is unique, and I would think has a lot of history. How long has that field been in use by CHS? They should make upgrades to the existing facility, unless there are issues with it. I would have expected inspections to the entire site when they put in the new home side a few years ago.
  6. Clearly you don't read... I said HALF THE SCHEDULE... You can highly disagree, but it is a fact that Clinton was at least AS TALENTED as Campbell County, Halls, and CAK because I saw those games. Add in Karns and the worst they SHOULD HAVE (I know not worth much) was 4-6. No they're not on the level of the teams you referenced, but to get to the top, a team has to consistently beat the bottom and middle of their region.
  7. I saw 3 Clinton games on film this year. In all 3 Clinton had at least as much talent as the opponent... They lost 2 of those games. There has been much more talent there in the past, and stopping the bleeding to the neighboring school is JOB #1 for whoever they hire! This year's team had the talent to win/compete against more than half the schedule.
  8. Before the next semester starts would make sense.
  9. No, they got this guy on staff last year, because I said the same thing.
  10. I heard from a couple of very connected guys this evening that Ellison, an assistant coach from one of the Sevier Co. Schools, and Union County’s defensive coordinator are in the hunt. Some of the higher ups saw a couple of UC’s games the last 2 years and took notice. Regardless, if they can steal Rang or Ellison, it would be a homerun, and anyone that can find a way to win at Union County at least deserves a look.
  11. I don’t see any point where we disagree??? Even with the losses, their line was still better than everyone else that they played in the region besides Elizabethton, Powell was arguably as good and I didn’t see Elizabethton to be able to say. They were much better than AC physically. I know 1-2 things about OL play, as well, I was a D1 center. Last year was absolutely a different animal, all 5 were dominant.
  12. Nope, I said it exactly as I meant it. Using the term save X has waned in popularity in the last 100 ish years, but is grammatically correct, haha!
  13. Hence the phrase, “...save approximately 3 games per year...”
  14. I saw them on TV the last 2 years and in Cookeville. They were noticeably much less disciplined, downright sloppy at times, and they were not sticking with the scheme that served them previously nor using one that suited those animals they had on the line this season. Those things fall on coaching. Greeneville should never use the term "rebuild." They are heads and shoulders above everyone they play, save approximately 3 games per year, and have as much, if not more talent in every game.
  15. I have heard a few under the radar Coordinators, that have been part of some pretty impressive rebuilds.
  16. Absolutely, I should have qualified that with a HUGE all caps IF... I don't know any of the staff etc. IF you run into hurdles like that, a new coach needs to be able to "clean house." Often times if the existing staff doesn't have an inside hire, it is tough for the next coach as well, since at least one of them will put their hat in the ring. Most is hypothetical scenario type language in such a thread, please understand that.
  17. It isn't already? When rural schools make a run, and even some urban schools, the travel is already pretty crazy. It is an idea... I am not sure what population would constitute urban/rural, but there is tremendous disparity between a William Blount, Heritage, Campbell County, Cherokee etc. and an Oak Ridge, Maryville, etc.
  18. Here are a few plans that should be looked at: Public/Private, Rural/Urban Split (6 total classes) 5 playoff rounds A: Private AA: Private A: Urban AA: Urban A: Rural AA: Rural 2 Private 4 playoff rounds 3 Public Classes 5 playoff rounds To keep T$$AA's thirst for money at bay, allow them to sanction bowl games for a cut of the gate, smaller than a playoff cut $1-2.00. Local Bowl Games have a lot of cool flavor and need to make a return, but when you have winless teams automatically in due to 4 team regions in 6 classes, it is impossible to have decent ones. I would bet they'd make more money this way, than the current system. Attendance has been dropping under this 6 class system. Allow ANY team that wants to move up, to do so. Allow teams with a 10 year record below 33% to petition to drop 1 classification for 1 cycle, remaining in that class in subsequent cycles, per board approval thereafter.
  19. When the problems are laced throughout this thread, and they repeat year after year... you gotta admit the root of the problem is at the top. Oak Ridge ALWAYS underachieves with Gaddis. It is well known and observable by everyone across East TN, yet he is insulated in his bubble and will never leave. He must believe he is great and the kids are always the problem How about not mentioning an offense that never makes sense and never gets the ball to play-makers effectively... reference one Tee Higgins...
  20. Heritage and William Blount are prime examples of why consolidating several smaller schools is always a bad idea. These schools would be much better off if they were broken up into 2-3 2/3A schools each. Learning outcomes are empirically proven to be better in smaller schools (below 800) as well, but heck what do I know...
  21. They'll need to clean house and open some slots for him to hire a quality staff as well. AC has an army of coaches... Hard to compete in 5A when all the staff is disloyal OR teaching jobs are eaten up by non-coaches that were from the previous regime, likely working against the new hire.
