  1. No Sir, no hidden agenda here. I think you are spot on in your assessment. Until the feeder programs are set up to teach the basics DB will struggle against good passing teams.
  2. Mr. Waco, I'm an occasional poster with a little knowledge of football (mind you, I said little) could you be so kind as to give us some specifics on how you would fix DBs pass defense?
  3. Seriously? The boy's in the district welcome WB not for their record, but because they want to be in a conference that they are more competitive. Tell me a parent that doesn't want their kid to participate in a league that their son is competitive. The rules have morphed over the decades in football and we as parents may not be able to see them. However, I will submit that we must persevere and move forward. I'm a division 1 football player with a kid that will probably not meet the expectation. I am ok with that scenario. Coaches do their best to put their team in the best position to succeed in life, weather it be through football or all the lessons that football provides them. Please don't hinder the exceptional opportunity for you son to experience what a team environment can be like. There is nothing greater than being involved with a team that strives to be a pillar in the community.
  4. Extremely classy bunch; the team, coaches and fans. What's the old saying? Act like you've been there...nuff said! Sportsmanship example for the masses.
  5. Phone calls are not made unless you are tested or contact traced. The answer to all of this speculation goes back to why did the kid get tested.
  6. The one question that hasn't been asked, is why did the McMinn kid get tested?
  7. In my opinion this whole thing is a joke. My family has been through the good, bad and ugly with covid. The one thing that is true about covid is you will contract it, but that doesn't mean you avoid it. We will all have our day with covid; it's the individuals responsibility to manage it. These kids are affected by every decision we grown ups make and I for one think we have failed them all. This game should have been played. None of the kids want to make it to the next game under an asterisk. If Maryville wants to pull that card, let them. They can be the one with the asterisk. My personal opinion is that no one would have played the covid card and the kids would have been fine. I guess I'm just old school and tired of the tail wagging the dog.
  8. I agree, crotchety old ####. I realize he has been a DB fan for a long time, but doesn't give him the privilege to be an arse. Everyone deserves a little dignity and respect.
  9. If the Wildcats get out of their on way and apparently they have over the last several weeks, they can be very good. They have more athletes top to bottom than any team we've played this year. I'm a DB dad and told my son before we played them that the Wildcats could be very dangerous due to their athletes. Our game was closer than it should have been, but if OR had been hitting on all cylinders they would have taken us to the woodshed. OR 21 - Rhea 14.
  10. My family has all had covid and I can honestly say that unless you have serious underling conditions then you are not in any direr situation. With that being said, I realize that there are many people that have severe underlining conditions and those people need to take precautions.
  11. I like how you are thinking, but the coaches and the young men must decide if they want to be here. We must execute in all phases and take it one game at a time. DB is better than they believe, they just have to believe. We are talking about 15 to 18 year old young men, they are emotional, egotistical and most importantly very susceptible to their environment. The coaches and players need more than anything to execute and believe. If we do that and not look ahead we should be successful. The bone headed mistakes need to be minimalized. We are 11 games in and have no excuse for stupid penalties or not being in positions to make plays. If we are in position, then the boy's need to make plays and we have the team to do that. The question is, will we!
  12. The coaches see the film. It is up to them to get there team ready regardless of opponent. If they choose to overlook Walker Valley, then they will get what is coming to them. If they respect the team Walker Valley is, then it will be a competitive game and Powell should prevail.
  13. Two players...12 and 1. I was wondering what happened to those guys. Both young men are difference makers. 1 made a few cameo appearances in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Cox never returned.
  14. I love all of you arm chair quarterbacks who probably didn't even get in the game as a high school player. The one thing I respect about the Maryville and Alcoa fans, is that with all the confidence they have they always point out the positives of the opposing team. We (DB) can't even give the boy's props for shutting out a very good team in the second half. It's amazing to me that we get all of these so called experts from other schools...areas that know so much about football that they down DB. Yes, most is true, but we haven't asked for or put out there that we are perfect. I realize we all are very supportive of our teams, but please make the smack talk constructive and don't and I mean don't, criticize from the sidelines when I'm positive you have never been an integral part of a team that is competing for a cause.
  15. Belief, that is the difference! Alcoa has competed and won some very competitive games against quality athletic football teams. Alcoa knows how to win! DB has the athletes and coaches to compete, but need to figure out how to believe they are going to win. When you are playing against a team (coaches and players) that believe, you have to knock the believe out of them and that is hard to do. When you question your ability to win, you will always question yourself when you make a mistake. Believe you are going to win and fight through all the set backs. When you do this and execute even with a lesser athletic team you overcome mistakes and put your team in a position to win. Maryville does this year in and year out. Play to win...Don't play not to lose. The results will always be dramatically different.
  16. If I'm a Farragut fan, and I'm not, I would have been frustrated with the officiating on the that particular drive. I watched the game on live stream and then went back and reviewed the penalties and in my laymen's opinion they where not penalties. The rebels may have scored regardless, but those calls definitely helped. Packer is another story. As someone said earlier, you may disagree with a call, but the coach should be the one to address it.
  17. We have the coaches and coach Christian will put DB in a position to be successful. Alcoa and Maryville have better athletes top to bottom. DB has the best all around team they have had in a while. The question is, can the coaches get this team to realize their true potential? It all boils down to HEART! DB can't play like they have in the past, they must practice everyday and play every game like there is no tomorrow. This could be a special year with 30 seniors and being the 100 th year of DB football, but the kids must take ownership. If the kids take ownership and stay healthy they could take DB from good to great at least for a season.
  18. Your a realist! You have been around long enough to recognize when DB is playing at their best or not. DB needs to play a 100% every play in every way to take it to the next level. We cannot overlook anyone and must get better every practice and every game to truly achieve what this team is capable of. I have been in Kingsport for 25 years and this is the most complete team I have seen in that time. Not the most talented, but the most focused. Let's not allow them to lose that focus!
  19. Waco you are right. DB is a team that needs to focus one game at a time. Every time they begin to get the big head, they become undisciplined and make sophomoric mistakes. Take care of the little things and the big things will come.
  20. The Blazers should not be overlooked. Greeneville in their first game back from quarantine succumb to a respectable Blazer team 24 - 21.
  21. Mr. Childress just put a lot into perspective. Those who disagree with his response will surely show their true colors! Well written response to a very subjective letter.
