  1. I don't have a dog (no pun intended) in this race, but if you will note, I said, "don't ever underestimate a good salesman". Until Knox County decides to change their policy, coaches will find every loophole they can to win, and those that don't will be looking in from the outside. Good coaches find players or better yet, players find good coaches. I don't know coach Jones and probably never will, but don't run a man down for figuring out how to play the game. Expect you school and coaches to get into the game.
  2. Josh apparently pulled the athletes out of the school. Don't ever underestimate a good salesman. Especially one that can coach.
  3. Waco, I have respectfully disagreed with you for years and 3 years of that was when my son was playing. I now know you have a pretty good grasp on what's happening. I have been around the game and in the game for many years and I still can't comprehend what I just saw. I agree with your earlier statement that this team is not as good as the 2020 team, but I'm not sure they are any better than the 2021 team either. Coaching, youth, I don't know, but what I just saw was ridiculous.
  4. DB had the momentum and Greeneville was tired. No better time to make that call than then. It was a heck of a call! Had you been at the game you would have agreed with the call. I told my son before we scored we needed to go for two. That doesn't make me an expert, but it was the right call. Don't give a team a 2nd wind when you have them where you want them. That's exactly where DB was. Greeneville made the play and the rest is history, but it was the right call.
  5. DB is as good as they want to be. Once we play Greeneville we shall know how go we are. We play who will accept the invitation and currently that is the schedule that exist. Yes, the Knoxville schedule was better, but the hope is the kids rise to the challenge when we get there. DB needs to focus and improve 1 game at a time. Talent wins when the focus is on the basics and the team immediately in front of you, not on what could be.
  6. I would have played the game if it were up to me and my son. The fault still and will always remain with McMinn's coaches and administration for trying to hide the truth. If they had just been upfront the game would have been played. Ifs, ands, or buts, we would all have a Merry Christmas.
  7. The high school's website is generally the most accurate. DB's website is as close to accurate as I have found. Most other schools are spotty at best. The only reason I believe this to be true is due to my son playing for DB and I know the majority of the players on the roster.
  8. Maybe not this year, but Murvil will definitely know not to overlook the new kids on the block. Something I hope DB will do year in and year out.
  9. Jackson appears to be more of a linebacker than a running back in college. Thoughts?
  10. It is amazing how one kid can make such a difference in a game, but Jeff Co. hit the lottery with their quarterback and he complements the team well. Barring injury, we will be seeing this kid on Saturdays. I have not seen a quarterback as talented in Upper ETN in the 30 years I have lived here.
  11. JD...wasn't trying to slight any of the players on the roster or the ones that get an opportunity to contribute. Just wanted to let the masses know the roster isn't always as big as it appears. I hope your grandson gets better and back on the field soon.
  12. And if we are being honest, that is the case at most schools not named Maryville, Oakland, Greeneville or Alcoa.
  13. Roughly 85 on the roster sophomores through seniors, but only about 36 contribute. The rest of the players are window dressing.
  14. I completely agree, but that wasn't for the class of 2022. They started out with numbers in the upper 30s as freshmen and to the credit of these young men were still in the upper 20s when the 2022 season started. However, with the exception of 2 in this senior class none of the other 20 something could break through until this year. It is unfortunate for the team and the kids, but this is just one of those classes that didn't produce the athletes that it should have. I could go in to the reasons why, but that would be unproductive and honestly a disservice to the fine young men that choose to go a different direction. The team we have fielded this year are predominantly underclassmen and have faired well considering the inexperience and injuries. No excuses, just one man's perspective on a young football team.
  15. DB has been banged up since the West Ridge game and Greeneville added several more to the injured reserve. I'm not making excuses for the Jeff Co. game, but we were missing 6 starters and 2 reserves that play a lot of snaps. We were already a young team, but when you are missing that many players and playing kids with very little experience, confidence can be fleeting and mistakes will be made. That being said, it's next man up and you grow from what you have learned. I take nothing away from Jeff County, they came in with a game plan and executed it. Jeff County is a good football team with maybe the best quarterbacks I have seen in upper east Tennessee in a long time. Barring injury, that young man will be playing on Saturdays with a Division 1 team. After a week of rest DB should be in a healthier position when they travel to WB. DB wins by 3 touchdowns.
  16. I'm not saying one way or another, but if a coach is able to turn young men in to productive citizens, he/she has accomplished his/her job. We would all like to see our high schools win and being competitive is important, but don't dismiss a coach that has gotten all he can out of the players he has just because they are a large school. The school my kids go to is one of the largest in the state, but the athletes seem to be focused on one sport and not multi-sport athletes. The best administrations support multi-sport athletes and are able to compete at a higher level. Until you know what your administrations values are don't dismiss the coach. Coaches are some if not your most, influential support in helping your schools be the best they can be.
  17. DB better take these guys seriously or they may be in for a rude awakening. Greeneville smacked the Indians in the mouth from the outset and DB struggled to get their composer. DB settled down for the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but the game's momentum never seemed to shift to DB. If DB wants to win Friday or make a run in the playoffs, they will have to mature and find some heart. We need some Indians that will leave it all on the field! I'm not saying they didn't try, Greeneville is the real deal and unless there is another team with their talent or will, they win class 4a. Jeff Co. is a team that has heart and is willing to leave it on the field. If DB matches that heart and will, DB wins. If not, DB comes home with their tales between their proverbial legs.
  18. West Ridge is a solid football team that is still figuring out how to use their talent. Once they get a few more games under their belt they will be hard to handle. I think once they work out the kinks, Cherokee and the balance of their schedule takes care of itself. Best of luck to the Ridge for the rest of their schedule.
  19. This is a coaches game. Talent is on both sides for either team to prevail. Maryville has the edge due to the tradition they have established, but SCHILL has the talent to win. If I have to pick a winner on pedigree, I go with Maryville, but don't count SCHILL out.
  20. I don't disagree that Greeneville has athletes all over the field, but can someone explain in layman's terms why the game will be a running clock. I'm not saying DB is filled with all-star talent, but they seem to have a lot of potential. My dad told me when I was just a lad that potential will get you fired, but I believe in our coaches to get us prepared to fight the good fight. I'm just a DB faithful trying to understand why others don't think we have a chance.
