From what I heard you all could’ve had Rankin years ago but went in another direction. Also, I apologize for not scrolling down to see that you had started this thread or I wouldn’t have started mine. My bad.

Going back further, Rhea was also 1-9 in 1984. In 1985 they were 13-2 and made the state finals.

I like what we do in Georgia a bit better simply because you don’t have the same teams meeting in the same rounds each year. You open with a different region each year, and yes, two teams from the same region can meet in the finals. North Georgia vs. South Georgia in the final hasn’t been a thing for over 25 years.

They did this for one season, 1993, then changed it to the current system.

FYI- Georgia Governor Brian Kemp called Coach Peek earlier today to offer his condolences.

No problem. I was just giving an example of how tough the playoffs could be under the old system as opposed to the current system.

The last year of the 3 class system (1992) the team I was with was undefeated and we hosted another undefeated in Round 2. The prize for the winner was to travel to another undefeated for Round 3.

One of the more intriguing (and difficult to pick) games for me Mr. Barney. Not sure who I will go with.

In the 90’s we had a 3-7 team win state in 4A here in Georgia.

I was going to say make a rule that you have to have at least 5 wins to be in the playoffs, otherwise the other team gets a bye, but then you would have schools scheduling cupcakes for non-region play.

You’re correct. I remember that. And Whitwell fired their first year coach anyway. I guess they reasoned that if he had the talent to defeat a 10-0 team, he had no excuse for going 2-8?

Is this a Thursday or Friday game? My stepdad (who follows Rhea) says Thursday, but the Coacht scoreboard lists it as a Friday game.

I wish it were that simple here in Georgia. A coin flip is only used if the issue is determining seeding. If it’s a question of in or out of the playoffs, the teams in question meet at a neutral location Monday afternoon and play a one qtr. mini play-in game. Crazy.

I’m doing the same. The only 2 that might come close is 1988 Miami-Notre Dame or 1980 Georgia-Florida, which tells you how far back I go.
