  1. RIP to one of the state’s all time greatest. Incredible run between 1989-1992. 1989 3A champion 1991: 3A runner up 1992: last ever 15-0 3A champion
  2. So where do you have this PCHS team all time in metro Nashville? 1. 1981 Overton. Not ever going to be topped 2. 2023 PCHS. 15-0. Won at MBA and at state champion CPA 3. 2008 Hillsboro. Ended Maryville 74 game winning streak 4-5. 1996-1997 PCHS. John Henderson/Buck Fitzgerald teams 6. 1989 Whites Creek. Led by future Super Bowl champion Shelton Quarrels one of the great all time defenses 7. 1991 Stratford. The 4 horsemen. Peaked here should have won it all in ‘92 that’s my list that I have seen in person
  3. Congratulations to Coach Brunetti and the Firebirds. What a season. One of the great metro Nashville teams of all time.
  4. I will give the slight edge to McCallie in this one. Both have explosive offensives that can score quickly. Baylor with Jefferson/LeBlanc/Muschamp and McCallie with the 1-2 punch at RB and mobile QB. I trust the McCallie defense to get the 1-2 stops that will be the difference in the game. I doubt either team will turn it over. McCallie has a really good kicker and it could come down to that. I'll go 34-28 McCallie. Will be a national holiday in Canada and they can parade the trophy through the streets of Montreal.
  5. yeah I mean, that's the stupid decision....that was clearly stupid when it happened, and has to go down as one of the more boneheaded decisions of all time. Imagine if they had just gone with Killburg on day 1? where would they be right now? And done the sensible thing and said we can't take on a new QB in August after the season had already started?
  6. I will come out of retirement to post on this topic...no LA fan, but I don't get what they did wrong here and why they are facing such a harsh punishment. Text messages between the parent of an 8th grade student and an assistant coach regarding financial aid? For one, as LA stated in their appeal, an assistant coach can't do anything about financial aid one way or the other, so whatever he's texting doesn't mean anything. I'm sure every private school had emergency training with their staffs this week about texting with parents this week. The parent says "LA is cutting our financial aid"...not sure what that means; as has been noted, the clearinghouse determines anyone's financial aid award, and by the looks of it LA is not short on cash, so I would guess he just didn't like what he was expected to pay. Either way, the TSSAA isn't saying LA messed around with financial aid; it's just about the text messages themselves. The kid isn't there anymore so clearly he didn't receive any improper financial aid. So I don't get how text messages between a parent of a kid enrolled at the school and an assistant coach at the school can somehow be considered "recruiting." From what I have heard they were shopping around at BA, MBA and Ensworth because they didn't like the LA basketball coach. That said, LA should have just released him as an 8th grader/rising 9th grader, unless they feel pretty confident that Ensworth (where he is now) did something wrong in recruiting him.
  7. Well likewise I am a huge huge fan of Kaleb Beasley. Just as a kid, athlete person and I look forward to cheering for him for many years (except 1 week) for a very long time.
  8. Honestly we’d love Tav at MBA. He’d do great for us. Hate for him and his family (good people) he will never see the field at LA.
  9. Of course I don’t think seniors should get to play because they’re seniors. That doesn’t make sense. Best 11 kids play when the ball is snapped. May work out for you, may not. All you can do is your best, put the work in, listen to your coaches. You get beat out by an underclassman, then so be it. Glad it worked for my son, in football. Hasn’t been the case in other sports he plays. No harm in that.
  10. The number of 11th hour transfers, after practice and scrimmages have started, from out of the the area. And the TSSAA granting them all immediate eligibility even though it is really dubious that some of them are “moving” to the area at all. Have never observed anything like this happening in D2 in all of its existence beginning in 1997. If it’s going to require doing that to win, then I would prefer we lose and don’t do what is required to win. Not aware of any transfers that will play for us this year. Last year there were 2 who played—one family moved to Nashville from Kentucky when the kid was a sophomore, and one son of an alum who started at BA and transferred to MBA and was required to sit out his junior year. Both graduated last year.
  11. To each his own, and we have all had our own experiences that have formed our opinions. Mine, as an MBA alum, parent, volunteer, and donor is that I would rather us disband the program than participate in whatever this current state of affairs is. Been around this for 30+ years and the current state of affairs is unprecedented. But again to each his own, and as I wrote before glad it’s someone else and not me trying to teach my son a “life lesson” about not getting to play this year as a senior.
  12. Indeed you are correct. If you are a full tuition paying parent better keep your head on a swivel.
  13. Wow tough day for the kid who started the scrimmage vs PCHS Friday night and has been listed previously as one of the top 10 QBs in the state heading into the season.
  14. this would be my view...I'm certainly grateful that this summer I'm not having conversations with my son, that after 5 years in the program...all the sacrifice, hard work, being a good teammate, 6:00 AM workouts, late nights in the weight room (not to mention years of me paying a lot in tuition), that oh, sorry, we've recruited a bunch of new players from all over who are showing up tomorrow and will be taking your position, and your senior year you aren't going to get to play, unless its some mop up duty in a blow out. To each his own, but I would rather lose every game than win that way.
  15. Feels to me like overall, pound for pound, it's the Knoxville area...no real hard data to back that up, just thinking about the success of Maryville, Alcoa, Fulton, etc over a long period of time... One area that is a head scratcher to me is Williamson County. No one is benefitting more from the growth in Middle TN than Williamson County. They have highly competitive youth sports leagues, including most of all football. Tons of money, tons of former and current NFL players living there, tons of support...but lack the hardware that you would think they would have. Rutherford County isn't what it used to be. Maybe there is cause and effect, that different RuCo teams that lost for so many years to Maryville in the playoffs. Now there is one dominant team that is beating Maryville consistently, but the overall level of competition is down from what it was when Smyrna, LaVergne, Blackman, Riverdale and Oakland were all competing against each other.... D2-AAA in the Nashville area is going to be the best assemblage of teams in the state over the next several years....BA, MBA, Ensworth, LA, and FRHS.
  16. For what it's worth, the TSSAA sent around a survey to the D2 membership last summer before the season with a list of issues for coaches/AD's to weigh in on...among them, the boarding school issue and out of area transfers where a bona fide change of residency was not sufficiently established. I heard there were some strong responses, but not surprisingly, the TSSAA did nothing with the results.
  17. Some years ago, the rules around this were much more restrictive than it would seem they are now. Tiny Richardson probably 10 years ago announced his decision to transfer from Mt. Pleasant to Ensworth, a distance of over 50 miles. He had to sit out his junior year and wasn't granted eligibility because (as best I recall) the principal of the school believed he was recruited for football and would not grant his release (despite a visit from Tim McGraw and Faith Hill asking him to do so). So times have changed I guess as the RB from Oakland transferring to BA is immediately eligible.
  18. that's not what happened...when the Clinic Bowl ceased to exist, and was replaced by the BCB, the Clinic Bowl organizers tried to reestablish the game as a season kick-off series at Vanderbilt. MBA committed to the event, but the organizers were not able to secure participation from another local (public) opponent...so the opponent they could find to play was Byrnes HS and it was a total mismatch. Byrnes blew MBA out. But the game was never moved from campus to Vanderbilt. interestingly, the QB for Byrnes that day Willy Korn has developed as a great assistant coach and likely future head coach. Has been with Jamey Chadwell at Coastal Carolina and went with him to Liberty....been fun to follow his career.
  19. I mean even by BA standards these last 2 days are just something.
  20. There is nothing in Middle TN like Baylor/McCallie. MBA-Father Ryan used to be on that level, but it all really changed in the 90s when Ryan moved from Elliston Place to Norwood and the two weren't really neighbors anymore. Then JP2 opened, then Ensworth opened, and new rivalries formed. MBA-Ensworth is getting there but still relatively new. FRHS-JP2 pretty cool with the Bishops Cup, but also pretty new. MBA-BA, I don't know....just been to too many of those with the stands half full. Was a great atmosphere last year at BA. Maryville/Alcoa--two of the most successful teams in state history for many years, long standing rivalry, neighbor v. neighbor, 100 meetings...hard to top that. MY quibble is just you aren't really playing for anything but bragging rights as they are in different classes... Williamson County has some good rivalries....feels like Brentwood/Ravenwood "Battle of the Woods" is becoming a big-time rivalry. Back in the day the Sumner County rivalries were awesome....Beech/Gallatin/Hendersonville.
  21. Have to give credit to Father Ryan, they are the last of anyone I can recall that still serves fountain cokes in plastic souvenir cups at the concessions stand. Everyone else pretty much gone the way of the plastic bottles.
  22. Places I have been recently: 1. Baylor....just a picturesque setting in an old school stadium...surrounded by tall pine trees 2. Ravenwood...incredible setting surrounded by the hills 3. McCallie...I add McCallie for the views of the Smoky Mountains from the visitors' side 4. Alcoa...has been a while but another picturesque East TN venue
  23. I don't think that's what is happening....D1 West (as I understand it) was offering kids "NIL Deals" that were basically free workouts and gear in exchange for recruiting your friends to join the gym and post about it on social media. It could certainly grow into something from there...but D1 is now a big business and sold a big piece to private equity in 2021. For them to do something like that it would have to make business sense and get the blessing of the shareholders. That's not to say all sorts of shenanigans are on the table now under the guise of "NIL" but even then you are still dealing with transfer/eligibility rules.
  24. This is all true, and not the issue; what I and others have an issue with is that these inbound transfers are immediately eligible to play sports. Each year they are turning over their rosters with incoming upperclassmen who are immediately eligible to play. The rest of us can all hope that a great athlete moves to the area and chooses our school, in which case he/she would be immediately eligible. But a local transfer is sitting out a year, which it just seems like no one is going to be willing to do, and who can blame them? Kudus to the BA basketball player who transferred from Centennial and sat out his junior year to play as a senior and is a key member of their team which will be the favorite to win state this weekend. But whatever, the TSSAA took up the question and voted it down, so the issue is settled for now. Really, because the TSSAA isn't concerned about intra-private school matters. But any inkling (i.e., this dumb thing with LA) that private schools are taking advantage of their local public schools, and they are all over it.
