Monday Feb 28, 2022: Tough night of Region 6AAA Semi Final action in Jackson. First game saw South Side get a win over McNairy. McNairy was game and played hard, showed heart and did everything they could. Coach Jerry Lott, in his 45th year at McNairy is a class act in defeat. Second game was a total dog fight. Medina (SG) did miss their point guard. She broke her fibula when scrambling for a loose ball. I happened to be sitting about 5 feet away from the scrum and was difficult to see. She was sitting right behind us on the next row the following night and fortunately for her, the doctors said she has about a 6 week recovery time. Hardin County came to play. They played tenacious D, fought for rebounds, took high percentage shots in the post, knocked down 3's and made free throws. That spelled defeat for Medina. This sets up what should be an outstanding Region 6AAA final. South Side comes in looking to keep its state title hopes alive. Hardin County comes in with a trainload of momentum after beating Medina. The irresistible force and the immovable object. Gonna be a classic. If you're a fan of ladies high school basketball, gets your tickets early. It should be a sellout! #HawkNation #HereComesTheCloser

A - Middleton, tenacious D, Shoot the 3 from the parking lot and make it. AA - no prediction AAA - South Side. Before we left the building last year in Murfreesboro we knew we wanted a rematch for the title. Worst first half of the year in that game. Second half was all Hawk Ball. We're a better team this year and nervousness won't be a factor. You'll see a different team at the tourney this year. Gawd help anyone that has to play us. Can only provide educated evidence on Region 6 AAA after having seen each team at least twice. Rd 1: South Side - odds on favorite to take Region Title. Wins big over Hardin County at the Hawks Nest in opening round Medina (SG) will win on the road at Chester County in Rd 1. Inside, their big guy is a grown man at 16 yrs old. 6'3", 240 lb beast that can run the floor, rebound like a mad man & takes high percentage shots in the post. North Side is just too much for McNairy & takes the W at home. Guard play that can shoot the 3 from the parking lot. Liberty vs Lexington: I'm torn on this one. Lexington won District 12. But the district is decidedly not the same basketball talent as District 11. Liberty is streaky. If they were playing in District 12, they could easily been at least runner up in D12. But they play two AP Top 10 ranked teams in D11. (SS & NS) But in a 51-49% vote on my heart strings, Liberty completes the sweep for District 11. #HawkNation #HereComesTheCloser

As a BBall fan, I really loved the guard from Medina. She went down right in front of us and immediately knew something was really wrong. She limped off the floor with help from the Medina trainers. Stayed for the awards and received some awards. Big showing of sportsmanship from the entire crowd when her name was announced. She sat right behind us the next night at the boys game and she said about 6 week recovery. Broken fibula (the smaller one). Healing in an air cast. Regarding the Region Tourney: South Side and Medina round 4!

Thank you for the recognition. It feels good to have our program gaining that type of respect. Speaking of the game at Medina, the next day Coach McNeal compared it to a substate atmosphere. I saw him at church 2 days after the game, told him how proud I was of all their hard work. Told him 'I think we took another step on that night'. (Meaning toward the St Tournament and who knows what more) @HawkGuy06 and I had a front row seat that night. Referencing the original postings picks in 3A, the SS girls have 2 wins each over 3 of the teams mentioned. Medina, Fayette Ware and Covington. @HawkGuy06 and I were just discussing this today. We hope that the Lady Hawks and Hornets both make the state tourney. Coach McNeal at SS has built the program the old fashioned way, from the ground up. Coach Embrey in Medina is an outstanding coach and had her former program Summertown in the dance 2 of the last 3 years.
