  1. Sounds like this one should be a great one. I hope our Bulldogs are fortunate enough to see the winner next in Chattanooga.
  2. I am distrustful of a website that has Lipscomb Academy as only the fourth best team in Tennessee and Oakland as the seventh best team.
  3. They will have to move someone to Region 4 once Gordonsville grows into being 2A. Can't have a region of only Clay County, RBS, and Jo Byrns.
  4. No question McKenzie or MASE will be a handful. However, anything can happen in a given 48 minute timeframe. If Clay plays like they did last night and someone can beat them, I'll be the first to sing their praises. They certainly proved they can have a puncher's chance.
  5. It seems like it is very hard for teams in 1A to schedule quality opponents. I know it is difficult for teams in our region to schedule 7 non-region opponents, often times having to take whoever is available for that week. We had to travel to Grundy County and Gordonsville had to travel to Morristown to play Lakeway Christian. Not exactly ideal opponents.
  6. Most of those guys play both ways. The cupboard won’t be completely bare after this year, but it will be hard to replace this group.
  7. My assessment of the game tonight: Getting the first stop and subsequent 80 yard score was huge for Clay! Gordonsville is very hard to handle when they can grind the game out on the ground, while mixing in the deep ball as you sell out to stop the run. Quite frankly, the game was over after the muffed punt. From that point, Gordonsville had to start trying to force the ball downfield. Clay’s secondary was strong enough to win one on ones with Gordonsville’s wide receivers and then let their line tee off on the QB. While I believe the Bulldogs were the superior team, Gordonsville definitely looked like they were emotionally spent from last week at South Pitt. Definitely been fun watching these two groups of seniors battle it out the last four years. Hats off to the Tigers, especially #3 and #5 as both of them showed a lot of toughness tonight through trying to battle through injury or standing in the pocket against Clay’s defensive line.
  8. For the enrollment that Coalfield has, it is amazing how their program is always competitive. I believe their enrollment is comparable to RBS and Pickett County. Their community support is always great too. Should be another great crowd in Celina next week. As for the game, I do believe Clay should win, but nothing is a gimme when there are only four teams playing.
  9. Who goes to Chattanooga? Clay is rolling at the moment but all the folks in Celina know what great football tradition Coalfield has.
  10. Clay loses 9 seniors after this year. Can replace the QB pretty well, but the other holes will be hard to fill.
  11. Some Gordy fans are heading for the parking lot. 35-6 midway through third.
  12. All Dawgs so far. 21-6 at the half with Clay getting the ball to start the half. Offensive line is much improved this game.
  13. That "shanked" punt was done to keep it away from our returner, who is one the most dangerous returners in 1A. When you intentionally try to locate the punt near the sideline, a shank is inevitable, and is still likely better than letting our returner have a chance to run one back.
  14. Only one of Gordy's turnovers resulted in a touchdown, which I wouldn't call a giveaway, but a great play to read the screen and step in front of it. The other two resulted in punts. What other touchdown was a giveaway by the Tigers in your opinion?
  15. Not so fast my friend. This group of Bulldogs have never lost to Gordonsville at home and they don't plan on ending their careers doing so. I predict a Bulldog victory, 21-14 on a late touchdown run by either Joseph Marcom or Keaton Arms. I certainly echo Boarhog's statement. Hope #5 is back 100% for the Tigers on Friday night.
  16. Hats off to Gordy. We'll be waiting for you guys next week in Celina for the finale between both schools' incredible group of seniors.
  17. How will this one shake out? Nice win for the Tigers last week avenging last year's loss to Jo Byrns, despite losing their starting QB.
  18. Don't think either is correct for 1A. The only thing Gordonsville has done than would be considered a flop is the early loss to Watertown (which quite frankly should not happened). As for Clay County, they lost on a missed two point conversion on the road against a team that barely beat at home last year, then beat Gordy a touchdown at home after losing by a touchdown on the road last year. I think both did exactly what they should have in the regular season.
  19. South Pitt may not be better than last year. However, quite frankly no one in the east (especially Clay or Gordonsville) was close enough to have a chance to knock them off on an off night. Now, South Pitt may be down some. Do I believe Clay County is better than last year? No question. Is Gordonsville better than last year? Maybe. The $64,000 question is whether the gap has been closed enough for someone to knock them. Right now, I would have trouble picking anyone in the East to beat South Pitt.
  20. Personally, I would rather see us avenge South Pitt denying a trip to the title game in 1985. With that said, I'll be happy to see us get by Sale Creek first. Can't get to round 3 if don't get to round 2 first. Nevertheless, I would be happy either way if we were playing in the quarterfinals.
  21. I think you're joking about losing this game.
  22. I enjoyed our trip to Copper Basin in 2020. Wish I could have seen the area in the daylight. It sure was a hike to get down there however.
  23. Got blown out by Whitwell that year, but let the game at South Pitt slip away from us. Hopefully we get a chance to avenge that one in Round 3 this year.
