  1. I completely agree. Region 4A almost became a disaster as Gordonsville was very close to moving up (and could in the next classification if everything keeps growing in that part of Smith County). That would have left Clay County, Jo Byrns, and RBS as the only three teams in the region. The next closest teams to add would be Harriman from the East, Whitwell/Sale Creek/South Pitt from South, or possibly a team like Moore County/Cornersville, which would move another team out a region with more natural opponents. The other option would have been to absolve Jo Byrns into a region further west, Clay County/RBS into existing Region 2 or Region 3, and then split another region somewhere into two separate ones. This situation is a good argument for five classes, as Jackson County, Gordonsville, and Trousdale County would all safely be 1A and then you could have a legitimate 6-7 team region.
  2. Technically, the SEC is fining UT, not the NCAA. The money goes to a good cause too (SEC Post-Graduate Scholarship Fund).
  3. Clay County is fresh off a 53-7 beatdown of the Scott Highlanders. Will the Bulldogs continue their momentum in what is likely their last road contest of 2022 (assuming they take care of business against Gordonsville) or can Grundy County pick up their first win of 2022?
  4. Overall wins is the first tiebreaker for a three (or more) team tie. This is directly from the TSSAA handbook: The following tie-breaking procedures shall be applied and all regular-season games, both region and non-region, shall count (After each of the following steps have been applied, item C above shall be applied.): 1. The team with the greatest number of victories. 2. The team who plays the greatest number of teams who win 50 percent or more of their games. 3. The team who has the greatest number of victories over teams winning 50 percent or more of their games. 4. The team whose opponents have earned the most victories. 5. The team whose opponents have received fewer defeats. 6. Coin Flip If one of these criteria can reduce the tie to two teams, it reverts to head-to-head winner. It appears that Macon County is in the driver's seat if they beat Smith County (would have more overall wins than Upperman, then edge over Stone Memorial by head-to-head victory). If Smith County wins, Macon would finish third in a three way tie (Stone would win based on number of wins, Upperman gets second over Macon due to head-to-head victory).
  5. Only one ejection in the game I believe, and it was on Scott. There was a play with a late hit to Clay's running back that drew a personal foul, then another kid hit the Clay running back again, which prompted the ejection.
  6. Gordonsville is very close to being 2A as well. 365 was the enrollment turned in this cycle. Would be very interesting to see them and Smith County in the same region.
  7. Incredible considering she had to birdie the last hole to force a playoff, then birdie the playoff hole to win. Unbelievable composure in a high pressure situation.
  8. Gordonsville will win their first round game by as many they want to. Clay and South Pitt should do the same. The only game between regions 3 and 4 that will be in doubt will be Jo Byrns at Whitwell. I think Jo Byrns wins a competitive game.
  9. Horizon Sports Network does a great job covering Clay County football and basketball. Lots of in depth knowledge regarding the history of our program and they take the time to research the opposition to give them the proper coverage as well. https://dalehollowhorizon.com/listen/
  10. I think a lot of us would like to play Livingston Academy (going back to when Coach Lamb was on the other side). It's crazy how little we play LA in all sports combined considering its about twenty minutes between the schools.
  11. Clay County vs. Westmoreland should be a good test between two top 10 teams in their respective classes.
  12. I don't believe it will be a three score margin by either team. I don't believe Westmoreland will play fast enough to score 28. However, it is not impossible for Westmoreland to hold Clay County to 7 if everything goes their way. The Eagles done a great job last year of controlling the clock in Celina and dominated time of possession. The last three games have been 21-12 Eagles, 27-22 Dawgs (should have been 19-14 Dawgs if not for back to back kickoff returns in the last minute of the game resulting in touchdowns), and 21-14 Dawgs. Seems that 3 scores is the magic number to win the game.
  13. The 2020 game was the best high school game I have ever watched. The 2021 game could've went differently if Westmoreland didn't get greedy in the last two minutes and start throwing the ball.
  14. This will be a barnburner if anything like the last two years. With both teams having their respective de facto region title games at home later in the year, this should prove to be a great test for both teams. Westmoreland was Clay's toughest non-region opponent last year, despite being down. I predict the first team to score 20 wins.
  15. Red Boiling Springs is 3-2 and Trousdale County is 0-5. Who would have ever thought that would happen in the same year?
  16. Bulldogs decided to accomplish it by halftime. Joseph Marcom making a good case to be a Mr. Football nominee with the 40 yard TD run to end the half. 30-6 Clay with Clay receiving the second half kickoff.
  17. Clay County - Cornersville game had officials throw the bean bag on a dropped jet sweep pass where the runner was three yards in front of the qb when the pitch was thrown. It was obvious to everyone but the officials that it was an incomplete pass, but they had no clue and never considered calling it incomplete. Their needs to be better training (or better pay to entice the good refs to come back) for officials so these blatantly obvious mistakes do not continue. Also seen games where the refs were not blowing the whistle when the play is over and both teams had kids continuing to play because of it.
  18. Can Jo Byrns make the long trip to Clay County and stay on top of the Region 4A standings? I'm picking the Bulldogs 30-6.
  19. I feel the same about listening to Mike Keith and Coach Mac call a Titans game. Far better than hearing the television announcers. Always wondered what would have happened had UT been able to keep Mike Keith from getting away.
  20. Any Cornersville fan than can't make the drive up can listen to the fantastic broadcast team on the Horizon Sports Network. https://dalehollowhorizon.com/listen/
  21. Can Cornersville avenge last year’s home beat down or will Clay County improve to 3-0 heading into Region 4A play? I predict Clay County 33-13.
  22. Gordy would be 2-0 with their bottom 30 players right now if they had Clay's schedule at the moment. Clay should beat Watertown (they handled them fairly easily in a preseason scrimmage), and the Smith County game could have went either way. Nevertheless, you can't realistically judge after two weeks.
