  1. Good luck GC. I hope WV and GC take care of business tomorrow. WV is pulling for the district/region foe in this one. I'm calling GC by 10.
  2. York is a great team and WV's shots weren't falling tonight like they normally do as well. Good game and a good comeback by York to make it interesting in the late 4th. Good sportsmanship from both groups and I saw a couple of the WV girls consoling a York player afterward. Two class programs in my opinion.
  3. WV Nation is pulling for Jackson South Side. Go Lady Hawks!!! Bring it home!!!
  4. One thing I can make a prediction on is that WV is preparing for the game against Community and they know the stakes....and you can't ever "overlook" anyone up here. Gibson County and McMinn will be battling. I'd personally like to see a WV vs. GC (part 5), but there's still a lot of work to be done. WV's coach is good at keeping the highs & lows near even keel and they never seem to get too rattled. Should be 2 good 2A games tomorrow for sure.
  5. Mckenzie and Wayne County will be replaying last year's championship game again on Saturday. Those are the 2 best Single A teams at the tourney. Too much firepower on those teams and their style of play was evident in the quarterfinal matches.
  6. WV also had their worst shooting percentage game of the year against Elizabethton in that game and they have lost only 8 games in the last 4 years. I think Elizabethton is good, but SS is probably 6-8 points better than WV "this" year on most nights. Should be a good game and 4 quarters of swarm defense by SS.
  7. No offense to the young ladies of Hampton, but I'm calling Wayne County by 18. They're a very solid team, play defense well with good guard play, and a baller in Baugus(?).
  8. ....or at least a zoom online drawing for transparency, even if it isn't needed. It's almost like they want the power houses to play each other on day 1. Who knows?
  9. I think the young lady's name was Crouch or Couch and I'm pretty confident she was Ms. Basketball last year. I'm not sure if #24 from Upperman is related to her, but I can tell she's a very good solid player/scorer as well.
  10. Now that's bold!! 22......I like it and agree (20+ blowout)
  11. I think the Championship game was played today between South Side and Upperman. I'm taking SS by 15+ on this one.
  12. True. If you're going to play that way against an aggressive team, you'll definitely need an exceptional ball handler who can see the floor and handle the ball under pressure. SS missed several FTs (front end of 1&1s) and some inside shots they normally don't miss too. But defensively, SS was everywhere that Upperman wanted to be. That's hard to account for in practice with a team that plays that way.
  13. #1 (the fast short young lady) hit a couple of big 3s as well for SS. I'll say that Lawson definitely has a different gear and gets fast, when she wants to go somewhere. I couldn't tell if she ducked her shoulder on that one, but it appeared that #22 from U was behind her on that putback and may have "assisted" with that call being called with her reaction. But I liked how Coach B played offense/defense with #2 after that 4th foul. I knew she let a couple of layups go by that she'd normally challenge, but that's the smart play to do when you have 4 fouls with a lot of time left.
  14. We are light in the middle and hopefully, our inside presence will be back healthy next year with a good knee. Based upon what I witnessed today, SS should take care of business.
  15. Good win SS. I was there and pulling for the Lady Hawks. I think Elizabethton will have a much harder game tomorrow with SS's pressure. WV got them in South Carolina in a tourney and they're scrappy and they converted some shots late in that game back then. We didn't shoot the ball well on that last day, but those girls can play basketball and are very well-coached. I'm calling SS by 12. Good luck on Thursday!
  16. Overall it was a fun game to watch. SS's pressure causes the ball to get thrown around a lot, and when SS #2 (Lawson) got her 4th foul....I thought Upperman would take advantage and get back into it. I kept waiting for U to bust a three, but when it got within 5 a time or two....SS found a way to get behind the defense. U#24 was trying to figure out a way to score, but it appeared SS made a good adjustment on her in the 2nd half. It was fun to watch and good season Upperman.
  17. Since the refs are evaluated during the season and we have multiple referee regions across the state, send the best evaluated refs (evaluated by TSSAA & through a Coaches' survey) and let that identified team work as a unit up there on the games where a team from their area isn't involved. It seems like they just throw 3 refs together most games from the pool of associations and I assure you that each Region of refs call games differently. That's why it sometimes seems that 1 ref is ruining a game, because that's how they call it in the area of the state which may be different in all of the other areas. At least if you had a ref 3 person unit for that game, both teams would adjust their style of play to fit the way the game is being called. Don't know of a good answer really.
  18. SS is very good, they play pressure ball for 4 quarters, and score in waves. Their achilles heel is not having a lot of consistent outside shooters. They're board crashers, love the turnover layups, and play a fast-paced (& physical) pressure game. If a team has at least 2 solid ball handlers to avoid the traps, they're not untouchable. Very well coached and Brent (Coach McNeal) does a great job with them. He has done wonders for the program and SS is set up to be good every year. He's a great coach.
  19. No way I'm picking against Mckenzie and young Davis and her team. MTSU is getting a great one in her and I think Mckenzie will be in the championship to defend their title this year.
  20. lol. One thing I will say about WV fans, they let the play do the talking and just sit back for the most part while everyone else chirps at them. Any team going to the House has a chance at this point in the season, and there are no pushovers at this point. Win or lose, they don't really complain about losses and they tend to treat it like a business in winning & losing. I've spoken with past players when they were upset just after getting beat at the tourney, and I've never had one say that they were crying over the loss.... but they were upset about the group leaving and their friendships/teamwork that would be missed. It's going to be a good tourney.
  21. I like all but a couple. Not sure about Scotts Hill and Community going that way, I don't know enough about either of them. If York beats WV by 12, that'll be only the 2nd time in 4 years (considering their 8 losses over that period) that they lost a game by 12 points which is their highest deficit of those losses in that period for this group. I believe the other time they've had a loss like that was against Grainger four years ago at State when these seniors were freshmen. I think it'll be a little bit closer than 12 points (either way), but York is the favorite going in (IMO) based on the eye test.
