  1. Before halftime Greenfield had a player take off his pads/jersey screaming at the team & headed for the locker room. Throughout the season players kicked off the team, quitting, police called to the sideline for a dispute, it's not looking too prosperous for Greenfield football. Basketball school? Maybe, but there's a LOT of pride & support in that little town for their kids. As a small town neighbor, I'm glad to see it. But, something just seems out of sorts over there on the gridiron.
  2. Just for conversation here, but why not? The kids looked fantastic in the Midnight Madness 7x7. No, they didn't have any real deep ball threat, QB just didn't seem to have the arm for it. But that short yardage, quick game that could move the chains with athletes in a real game was pretty good. What happened to it? Abandon everything & feed Mullins 50 plays a game? His hard running should open up some of that.
  3. I figure McKenzie to win this. But neighborly rivals bring out a lot in teams. Could be closer than some think.
  4. Yes it would be quite entertaining. But everybody that's on the inside is a week away from 0-0 & starting over. Exciting times!!
  5. Yes & no. The super sloppy game against Gleason came after a rest week of fall break. The players were incredibly P'd off by their play & they know why. Hate it for the Jackets, but every team at some point has those games that you just get crushed. Dresden boys are looking for more than a win and going 10-0. Senior night & Greenfield just happens to be the team where they plan to sharpen the axe for the playoffs.
  6. I agree that this could be a very fun game to see. It doesn't take #1 teams to make a good game that's fun to watch. These teams could make for a great matchup with both looking to end the season with a win.
  7. Odds of winning that $Billion last week about the same as this happening.
  8. Martin Middle School could probably pull this off. So, Westview by as much as they want. And I figure they will want a lot as they prime for Covington next week. Is McNairy looking to make a change in the off season?
  9. Ok heck I'll ask, BigPurple, can you make us a top 10 west Tn catfish joint list? Might be more interesting than a few of these late season games.
  10. #1 Nothing compares to Highschool football. The crowds, emotion, pride, community, local rivalries, wonderful evening entertainment. And for me, the smaller the schools the better. We can be fans of colleges we never went to & trash talk forever. Do you know who your team beat in the bowl game last year? Do you? But when you live in one small town & work in another, that Friday night game between the two means so much more, it's 365 days of ribbing to know EXACTLY who won before the teams meet again. #2 Middle school football. It's where the kids really start growing & becoming competitive. It's where fans start to learn about who to watch in HS for the next few years & if their favorite HS program will have good days coming when the seniors leave. For a lot of kids, this will also be the end of sports for them. Work, money, trouble at home, they may not get a high school option with the time it takes to compete at that level. #3 College used to be great & I still watch a bunch of it. Unfortunately, it's becoming a little much with the money involved.
  11. When you barely survive against McNairy who's only win was against a winless 1A school, I just can't see Bolivar keeping this close. Westview had a rough go on senior night by Dyersburg, (need we even bring up the Primetime conversations?). So, to me it's all about mentality of the team. Does Westview shake it off & get back on track on their last regular home game? Or are they mentally beat and let this be a closer game than it should be? Or even take a loss? I think the I'll take Westview by 20+
  12. Yeah it's easier to scan a couple misleading numbers than dig into the facts. Pretty much the world now days. I'd take the bet on Union City at 4-3 against a WHOLE LOT of teams (in several classes) with better records right now. They have a very good team. It hasn't worked out for them a few times this year, but it would be absolute total foolishness to think they are an average team with a one game over .500 record. However back to the point of this thread, Gleason should win 2 of their last 3, keep working Gleason!!!
  13. Sticking with TN teams merely keeps it fair when or if it matters to post season play/rankings & mrbigster made a good point of that. TCA is going to be tough, very very tough, but good luck to the Jackets. I am glad Greenfield did that too. I'm from Dresden & can assure you the boys had rather play West Carrol or someone around local than Fulton County, KY. I'm not bashing any school by any means. Openly support small schools. Always have, always will. Like someone said, those small KY teams are prob looking for like size games too. I'm sure that's true, but they are also looking for a reason NOT to play Mayfield (that only recently,5 years?? has moved to 2A). One last thing, I think you are correct about Greenfield on the up. A perfect no-loss season from your middle school has them in the championship game this Thursday night. Congrats to them & good luck! I'm pulling for them.
  14. Schlicht had Tommy John surgery at 16. He could play with a brace (linebacker) but could not throw anything for a long time. He was an ace pitcher before that. So he has a bit of pent up energy he is unleashing this year as well. Incredible kid on & off the field.
  15. DEFINITELY!! Thank you for doing this. When somebody is assigned a number, some heads get a little bigger than they should, some feathers get more ruffled than they should, but it's all in good fun. To your point, it does helps to understand from other points of view about some teams I'm personally not familiar with.
  16. Read the post. That's what I said, play someone like sized. But play someone in Tennessee. Stewart County, Houston County, Perry County, Bruceton. They are all local enough to play anyone in NWTN & they are all in Tennessee. I totally agree there is no reason to for small schools to have to play large ones. Sometimes it's playing up to push a team to make them better. But there's a limit there.
  17. Trap Game 101 right here. Dresden has beaten all the bigshots on their schedule to make it to 7-0 & should win this by as much as they want to. But neighborhood region foes with nothing to lose & everything to gain should be taken seriously. Especially one that's playing at home & putting up what 35 a game avg? Even with what seems like half their team bit by the injury bug?
  18. Unfortunately, I agree this is true. I support small schools no matter what or where, but lets just be honest here. Slipping over the state line to snag "big wins" against Ballard Memorial or Fulton County or the like should not count in playoff time TSSAA ranking. None of the teams that do this are even close to being more land locked from playing TN schools than Lake County. I understand maybe those schools have small enrollment and want to play like sized competition from time to time. I get that. But i don't think it should count in the TSSAA sanctioned playoff picture. Or in this conversation, against Lake. That's not fair.
  19. Heard that too. One of their best players I believe.
  20. I'll take South Fulton in this. Should be a good game.
  21. I believe I'd have to take Covington in this matchup, while polishing the machine for bigger games to come.
  22. I'd say a good list just for conversation until the brackets are filled in. Then it matters.
  23. I'll second this. Perry had a good showing to start the year against Greenfield, which has had a good season run since up through halftime last week. A loss will make for an even longer ride home. Good luck Vikings!
