  1. 13-3 top of 7th, SD trails with one down and runner on 3rd.
  2. Not sure about radio but I was told SD was trailing 7-1 in the 5th.
  3. This is not a suspended game situation; it is a called game in which the final score is determined by the last complete inning.
  4. Jamie Wilson @ Knox Central Everyone will know him by the end of the season. Oh yeah, and Roger Williamson from South-Doyle. Remember, he's the one that single-handedly shut down Maryville's running game LOL. Seriously, Jamie Wilson is for real.
  5. Farragut wins 4-2 in 9 innings. Farragut will play Bearden tomorrow and must beat them twice to win district tourn. Both go to regional, however. Congrats to both.
  6. Tied 2-2 in top of 9th. Farragut scored 2 to go ahead 4-2 with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd. SD has 7-8-9 batters due up in bottom of 9th.
  7. I was just told that SD was up 7-2 in the 5th.
  8. How did this game end up?
  9. I heard that SD won big, but I haven't heard about the other two games.
  10. How did these games play out?

    4AAA Results

Just wondering how the day's action played out at South-Doyle?
  12. Who is still alive in district tournament? Who plays who next? Does anybody know when?
  13. What was the final score?
  14. That's very true. I still wish we could use it more during the season. Although we had a very long pre-game meeting before our first district game, there were still a few times that we almost became crossed up. It's not hard to do after 2-man all season.
  15. That sounds a little strange. I'm not disputing what you say happened, but on the play at first base , the ump should have came in and pivoted just as in the 2-man crew mechanic.
  16. Very true. It's a little strange for your first 3-man to be at tournament time. Obviously, communication is key, but when you're used to 2-man all season, habit takes over sometimes. The decision to use 2 or 3 is up to the home team during the regular season. I know in tournaments, 3-man costs $135 and 2-man costs $110 because we make $45 each instead of $55 each with an extra crew member. I'm sure it would be difficult for associations to field 3 umpires for all games, but surely for the key district games it could be worked out.
  17. Deliberate actions constitute unsportsmanlike conduct and can result in immediate ejection. A little judgement can be used. ie. throwing helmet out of frustration at self could be a warning; throwing helmet out of protest to call should be ejection.
  18. NFHS Rules Book 2006 p. 30-31 "Art. 1..A coach, player, substitute, attendant or other bench personnel shall not: a....b....c. carelessly throw a bat; Penalty: At the end of playing action, the umpire shall issue a warning to the coach of the team involved and the next offender on that team shall be ejected, except for (f), where the coach shall be ejected. In b, it is also obstruction (8-3-2)." Item f by the way involves using tvs or replay equipment for coaching purposes during the game. Item b is "fake a tag without the ball." Enough said about the rule; this is black and white. Finally, there are NO PROTESTS in TSSAA sanctioned baseball games. The coach must contact the TSSAA after the fact and let them sort it out. Games are not played under protest in Tennessee. I found that out the hard way.
  19. Do you mean the rule for an ejection after a team warning? It's in black and white in both the rule book and the case book. You are right, however, about letting the TSSAA know that this happened. The coach should call Monday. The umpires are given rule book, case book, and the umpires manual each year when they register. They just need to study them.
  20. Calling a player out for slinging the bat is not an option for an umpire under TSSAA rule. After a team has been given a warning for a batter slinging the bat, any subsequent batter is ejected not out. It is a delayed dead ball. If the batter reaches base successfully, he is ejected, and an eligible sub is entered to pinch run in his place. The run should score, the player should have been subbed out, and the next batter placed in the box. Now the situation is one out with a runner on second. Although the call didn't "technically" affect the outcome, the ump still missed it. If you'll bear with me, I've always had a problem with people saying a call didn't affect an outcome; hence, I use "technically." Almost every call does. In this case, the batter returned to bat again. If the rule is applied correctly, he's done for the game. In addition, one blown safe/out call "alters" who should have actually batted in a later situation in subsequent innings. Picky but true.

    Fair or Foul

U.C. Huh? See if you can research why they are no longer serviced by the Knoxville Association of Umpires. The situation, involving fans, coaches, players, and administrators that led to that is simply unbelievable.
  22. If you took it as a smart "ellic" comment or an attack, I apologize. It wasn't personal, and I'm not sure what you're referring too, Oh well!

    Fair or Foul

If the ground ball is fielded over fair territory, it is fair and live. If it is fielded over foul territory, it is foul and dead. If it is caught in flight, over foul or fair ground, it is an out, obviously, and the ball is live in both situations. Like many have said, foul or fair is determined by the position of the ball only.
