  1. They had two HUGE linemen transfer in from a North Georgia school. Red Bank will be good, really good I think. They return most (if not all) skill positions from last year. They did lose those great LB's they had last year on "D". So time will tell how good this years "D" can. I think they have a good shot to win the 4A title. Outstanding skill players and great coaching. If that defense is any where close to last years, they will be hard to handle. AE is a tough place to play, I like Red Bank by 10.
  2. Prayer sent. Hope he is better soon.
  3. According to Murphy's website. The book will be available at all 13 Books-A-Million locations in Tennessee. They went to the printers this week so hopefully they'll start showing up in stores before the jamborees begin.
  4. I heard today that Baylor has an interest in John Allen. From what little I know about Coach Allen, he would be a good fit at Baylor. I can't say that I'm shocked to see Bibee leave, I was surprised to see Hannah step down.
  5. Amazing story. Does anybody have a complete copy of Rick Riley's article that they could post? I haven't subscribed to SI in years. Thanks!
  6. If I remember correctly it was all from the first half.
  7. Marion dropped the spread and went with the Wing T in the second half against Grundy. Are they moving away from the spread completely? Or was the wing T just to give Tyner something to look at on tape? Stump Martin had a lot of tape on the Brainerd/Tyner game on his show Friday night. I didn't think Tyner looked good at all. They didn't look like a State Championship caliber team. I think it will be interesting to see how they respond after such an upset. Good luck to both teams!
  8. I saw Baylor Friday night against Boyd. I think this is the best Baylor team in a long time. I think Baylor wins in a tight one. Good luck to the Red Raiders on the rest of their season.
  9. Jones has a broken arm. If I remember correctly it's the same arm that he's broken before, had screws put in, screws came out. Done for the year. You really have to hate it for him and Anthony both. Both great athletes. I hope both make a complete and quick recovery. Fulton @ Tyner - Sept 23 Should be a good game but probably not worth missing the Boyd/Red Bank game!
  10. This game will be broadcast live on Groove 93 WMPZ.
  11. Getting back on topic for a moment: Sequatchie - 42 Temple - 20 Temple can score, I don't doubt that. However, I think Sequatchie's "O" and "D" line will be a little too much for Temple.
  12. Stan Crawley of the then Chattanooga Times is the writer in question. Stan now writes for www.chattanoogan.com I remember Exum always picked the underdogs in his prep expert picks in the old free press. Which meant he pretty much always picked against Marion County. Everybody in Jasper thought he hated Marion and thusly, they hated him. After getting to know Roy a little a few years later I relized that's just the way he was. He didn't take those predictions quite as seriously as everyone else did. He could sure raise the ire of Tennessee fans (myself included) pretty quickly though.
  13. Bookmarked!! Very cool. I wish more programs had websites.
  14. Has anyone who ordered through the mail received it yet?
  15. You'll need the tax write off this year. LOL
  16. Thanks for the update, I was wondering about Murphy's book over the weekend and was going to post something today asking for information. My check is in the mail!
  17. Yep, your right it was a field goal. I should have remembered that as I have a picture taken of Brown in mid air blocking that kick.
  18. South Pittsburg has the best 1-A stadium that I've ever seen. Nice stands, concession stand is easy to get to, press box is above average. As a matter of fact all three high schools in Marion County have nice facilities, Marion, SP and Whitwell. Sequatchie County also has a beautiful place. Great stands, the press box is super nice, plenty of parking. Alot of the private schools have great stadiums as well. I can only comment on those that I've been too. Baylor & McCallie both have nice stadiums. DCA is one of the nicest press boxes that I've ever been in, they had wall heaters in each room of the press box. In the middle of November, that is a welcome sight.
  19. Actually he's bragging on me. LOL Beene_Coliseum, thanks for the kind words, after 9 years and over 100 games it's nice to know someone was listening. Chris
  20. I'm pretty positive most "recruting experts" at the time had, Williams and Mitchell in their top 10 at the time. Smith, I'm not that familar with. I saw that team play that year. Williams was great but Shannon Mitchell was just a man among boys. He along with Leroy Thompson from A-E are two of the best (maybe thee best) high school football players I've ever seen.
  21. "After all is said and done, this is probably the best thing for us. We want somebody that's going to challenge us and help us get better as the season goes on. " - Coach Davis to the Cleveland Daily Banner Not only is that the utimate slap at Basin, he's right. Other than the gate and the bragging rights, Polk gets nothing out of that game, well execet the "W". But that is a program on the rise and they would probably benefit better playing a little tougher competition that what CB would offer. I'm afraid CB is headed in the wrong direction. That was once a great program with lots of pride and tradition. How long are the people of Copper Hill going to tolerate that type of behavior from the head coach and administration?
  22. I don't see how anybody can not go with SP here. Sure they only won 3 games last year, and yes, they did lose some talented Seniors but the only region loss the Pirates have suffered in recent years has been to Boyd. Thanks to the mathmaticians at the TSSAA Boyd is now 2-A, so as I see it that clears a path for the pirates back to the top of the heap. Matthews is quick and talented, Robinson makes for a big target so SP will not be without skill people. They won three games last year riding Jeremy Allison, the kid did everything except sell popcorn at halftime. Matthews and Robinson should have a little better supporting cast around them this year. The line will be a question mark on both sides of the ball. They looked good at times last year but they were not consistent week to week. Depth was a real problem last year, hopefully Vic has a few more bodies to work with this year. As usual with this team they will be well coached and prepared. They have to avoid the ups and downs that have plagued them the last few years. If they take care of the ball and minimize their mistakes I don't think that there is anybody in their region that can knock them off. I will say this, if Walker plays last year SP is no worse than 8-1 in the regular season and they beat boyd at least once (either regular season or playoff). That kid is something to watch play so I hope that he can get his act together because he has the potential to be one of the best to ever wear the orange and black. Don't get me wrong, Matthews and Robinson are both talented guys, but the addition of Walker could put SP on a whole different level. As far as the rest of the region, I think it's pretty weak. Temple will be a solid team. In fact, from what I know about them (which is very little) I think they mirror South Pittsburg in a lot of ways, great skill people, suspect O and D line. They can obviously move the ball well through the air, and that can cause lots of problems at the 1-A level where most DB's aren't very skilled in pass coverage. I think SP will win the match up between these two, I don't think it will be a 21 point win, more like 6 or 7. SP has been known to give up the big play in the passing game against good passing teams so I'm sure that's a concern for the SP coaching staff. I think Whitwell finishes third but I would expect them to be in the hunt for most of the season. Coach Green does a good job and probably gets more out of his kids than any coach in the valley. As usual copper basin and LV will battle for that last play off spot. Not that it matters because neither will get out of the first round.
  23. This may be the most competitive region in the Chattanooga area. There are really four very competitive teams, with some great tradition and history. Tyner, Boyd, Sequatchie, Marion. Tyner has got to be the favorite in my opinion. Until they are beaten by a region opponent I think you have to consider them the favorite. Boyd will be a great challenger but the BB schedule is as tough as any in the state. That will have to come ready to play every night, there is a not a lookout valley and copper basin on this schedule, but boyd is not one to back down so I would expect them to be in the hunt come week 10. Sequatchie and Marion are both programs on the rise IMHO. Both have good coaches and great facilities and fantastic community support. It may be a little to early to see either of them taking over Tyner just yet, but they will both be competitive this season and I wouldn't be surprised if one of them was able to knock off a tyner or a boyd.
  24. Westmoreland played last year for Cleveland. To my knowledge he's not on the Brown's roster this season. He played mostly specials teams last year. Eric has had some injuries that have really hampered his pro career. Eddie Moore plays for the Dolphins and is expected to compete for a starting position at OLB this year. With Thomas and Seau getting older I expect Eddie to get every chance to start this year. A few others from Marion: Pumpy Tudors - UTC - All American in college, named to the ALL TIME Team at UTC. Went to camp with the Eagles, punted well, but was beaten out by the vetran Jeff Feagles. Was in the Bills camp in Parcells first year. Was cut early. In HS was all state at three diferent positions - RB, P and either KR or DB I can't remember now. Eddie Brown - UT - best known for getting his teeth knocked out while blocking a punt against Memphis (I think). Played Saftey and had a long career in the NFL and USFL. Led the NFL in Kick Returns in 1973. Played in the Super Bowl with the Rams and I think was on a USFL champion team also. There have been tons more from both of these programs. Some really great player from two programs with lots of tradition.
  25. It is said that MC and SP is the oldest rivarly in Tennessee. I guess that part is debatable, but there is no doubt that this is one of the most intense games of HS Football anywhere in the state. Great atmosphere no matter where they play and some really great games over the years between these two. I don't think the rivalry is as intense now as it once was in the 70's, but it still means alot to both schools, teams, coaches and both communities.
