  1. This discussion is a mute point. It now turns into what do we do now that it has passed. The T$$AA has past this and other rules that limit practice time and games per season. Limits the number of players on a summer team, whether they play, or just practice. There is also a longer dead period. This should make all the "lesser commited" players and parents happy. Now everyone can not practice, not work to get better, and still compete with those that "want to". And as a parent, I'm "TICKLED PINK" that the T$$AA has decided to tell me how to raise my kids, and what they can and can't do during their off season. Silly me. I thought that I had the right to make these decision on my own. Personally, I can't wait for the law suit to be filed. I'll pitch in the first donation to the legal fund to have this over turned. Just where do I send the check? http://www.murfreesboropost.com/news.php?viewStory=3055
  2. Central has gone 8 deep in the first two games. And to be honest, I can't tell any difference in which 8 are in. It's going to be a tuff one to call. I think that the team that can control the pace wins the game. McMinn HAS to run a slow paced game, or risk having to get into a weak bench. Central will be running the floor and doing the "border-line nasty" full court press from start to finish and try to get McMinn into a running game. None of Central's girls will be on the floor for more then 4-5 min before they get a rest. McMinn will have to keep their starters on the floor with only a mins rest. Close game at first. Central pulling away at the end. You also have to figure in the fact that Central's girls have not lost at home in over a year. I think Central wins both matches, home and away.
  3. The next game for McMinn and Central is each other. There's been alot of finger pointing, accusations, speculations, charges, and that's just during the summer. Anyone got a prediction for this game? I say low scoring, close game at half, with Central running away in the second half. What do you think?
  4. I believe that the PG you're talking about is still there. but she played wing alot last night. They also had a post that looked good at times, but she didn't get enough touches to be effective. Chatt. Christ. has some good players, but looked like they weren't ready to play tonight. McMinn Central plays them again there Dec. 16. My money says it'll be a closer game and they will be a better team. BUT, Central is still young (1 senior and 4 sophomores on starting team) and going to be getting better with each game as they learn to play as a team, plus, one of Central's players broke her hand before the season and saw limited playing time before the hand started bothering her. She'll be back by then. I expect a tougher game in Dec.
  5. Not to split hairs about the two madison's, but I think that the Lee will be a faster help to the team based on her stronger team play. Williams came from an elementary team that played more individual ball. Williams is good, and defense is the easiest for her to learn as far as team play goes, because all it takes is desire. And she has that in aces. But she has to learn some team offense, which I have no doubt she will, but it'll take her some time to get that under control. Lee is stronger at team play. If she has a weekness, it is that she plays like the teammates on the floor. When she playes varsity ball, she looks great. But when she plays jv, she lackes alittle. I think it's just her youth showing. Give her some time on the floor, and she'll learn to be a leader at both levels. It's not that she can't, that's for sure. Just needs some time to feel comfortable. Purky is the other freshman. She is good enough to be on the varsity squad, but is stuck behind some other pretty good post on the team. But I think that she has "Mullinax" potential.
  6. JBN I guess your from Meigs, so I was going to ask. How's the coach doing? I heard that he was having some health problems again. It's also good to hear someone bragging on him. I'm not sure that I agree with "the best coach in the district" part, but I think he's a good coach and will get the Meigs girls back to where they used to be...if everyone will leave him alone. I've heard rumblings from Decatur that some don't like him. It would be a shame to get rid of someone like him. He's good. And perhaps this year when CHS comes to town, you'all won't "throw light bulbs" at the girls. haha.
  7. Of the record that I could find, Coach Morgan is the 9th winningist coach in the state, and that is all time. Which includes A, AA, and AAA. Take out the coaches that are retired like Coach Smitty from Bradley County and a couple of others and he moves up to 6th winningist active coach. Again, that is ALL schools in TN that is governed by the TSSAA. Put two silver balls along with that and you have a great coach. Yes, THAT record speaks for itself. There isn't a school anywhere that wouldn't be tickled pink to have him coach their girls. I know I am. But, lets not look at the past... Let's look at this year. I'll put this years record up against any other school's that you can find. The next three or four seasons for that matter.
  8. Stone Memorial Alcoa McMinn Central Livingston Acad. Ezell-Harding Loretto Hill Crest Obion Co. I'm not that familiar with the teams in the west. Just took a stab at it.
  9. Hey, it's just a game. And yeah, they are some great girls. As far as I know, the girls are great young ladies. But I have different feelings about the coaches. Course that's just me, and my kid doesn't have to play for them. So, if they can stand him all year, I can for two games.
  10. How does everyone see the district shaping up? 1. McMinn Central 2. Tellico Plains 3. Tyner 4. Polk Co. 5. Brainerd 6. Sequoyah 7. Sweetwater 8. Meigs Co. 9. Boyd Buchanan
  11. I've not had a chance to talk to any of her family, but did get to talk to Madison some during the summer, and agee with you. She seems to be a super young lady. She's going to be a great addition to the team, and I think she will be seeing lots of time on the floor to give some rest and to cover for foul trouble. She plays alot like my favorite player. When she gets use to the offense, she's going to be double tuff. And about G.J. If it came from her dad's side, it's just because he grew up so close to Calhoun. Tell yours we'll be seeing her at T'Dub next Sat. if our son doesn't have a game.
  12. WAIT!!!! There's more to schools then athletics??? Ha Ha, just joking. No one has said it, but I will. There is something wrong, BAD WRONG, with the program at McMinn. I know that the players at Central would walk through walls of fire if C. Morgan or C. Young just pointed at it. And the players at WV hang around C. Tucker all summer and think the world of him. But I don't see or hear that from McMinn players or families. In fact, the families that I know have very little to say good, if anything, about the women's coaches at McMinn. I feel for the girls that play at McMinn. That is one of the best classes of girls to come thru any school around here in a long time, but they have nothing to show for it. The skill is on the floor, the only other thing that I can think of that needs to be looked at is the coaches. If they want to win, they are going to HAVE to make some changes. I only get to watch them play twice a year, but last year in one game that I watched, the game was lost by the coach. Pure and simple.
  13. K. Hearn tore her ACL playing soccer. G. Jordan broke a bone in her hand boxing dash boards. That's all the injuries that I know about, but G. Jordan will only miss the Hall of Fame Games, if she misses those. I'm afraid that K. Hearn will miss her senior year. Prediction: Get your reservations to the "Boro" now. Shoot. Go ahead and get them for the next 3 years. This team is loaded for bear and I only know of one team that will be able to beat them, and that is themselves. There are 9 girls on this team that would be a starter on ANY of the teams in our area. AA or AAA. They are good. The tuff part is going to be to chose who is the starting 5. I think there will be some seniority honored by C. Morgan at the start of the year, but don't let the first game starting 5 fool you. This team is young, VERY young, and the line up at the end of the year will reflect that. Speaking of starting 5. I feel more confident picking the NCAA men's BBall champs for 2020. I can tell you this. If ANY of the girls think that they are assured a starting roll, they are mistaken. And it's not that there are no stars. It's that there are maybe 8 or 9, maybe more. If these girls can keep their prides in check and play team ball, there will be few (VERY FEW) teams out there that can stay on the floor with them. I've not named names or "picked five", but heres one name to remember. Madison Williams. You may not know her now, but I promice you, you will by the end of the year. She is a defensive tornado that plays with LOTS of heart. Reminds me of my favorite player
  14. Pigeon Forge and Chatt. Christian has a tuff team to play. McMinn Central. @ Pigeon Forge (14th), and Chatt. Christian (17th) at Central. Let the games begin!!!
  15. t'noD teg trams htiw em, I wonk erehw uoy evil. Tough luck with the Fire this weekend. But they played some good teams and didn't loose to any by more the 6 points, and they led most of the way, just weren't able to close. NEXT TIME!!!
  16. That McMinn Fire team is nothing more then a reqruiting tool. They should be DQ'ed and sent home.
  17. I don't have much cause to watch all sports, so this is just from a BBall stand point, but I would have to say that the multiplier did NOT work in AA. At least in District 5. The only private that we had was Boyd Buchanan, and they would have been better served to have played in A. Our school went to the state in boys and girls BBall, and I don't believe that we encountered a private school anywhere along the way. I don't think that they hurt our team any. From what I saw, the private schools were the lossers in the multiplier game.
  18. OK, OK, OK. True story but a little off topic, but relating to the subject at hand. There is a coach, we'll call Coach Z. He is always accusing another coach, we'll call Coach A, of recruiting the best players in the area to attend his HS by influencing them during summer ball. Coach Z assumes, ALWAYS, that the ONLY reason that players go to the other school must be recruiting. Couldn't be HIS fault. So, Coach Z goes to one of his feeder schools to give a pep talk to all the incoming freshmen for the next year. He has a chance to tell of the successes of his HS, his players, and his plans for this particular group, but does he do that??? NO!!! He tells them that if they want to play they will HAVE to come to his HS because they aren't good enough to make it at the other schools around. He then gives an example of three players that crossed the creek to play at the school of Coach A and said that they were bench warmers when they would have been players at Coach Z's HS. I LOVE IT!!!! He thinks that the best way to get players to want to come and play for him is to tell them that they are no good. What an approach!!! Further, he fails to mention that the three players mentioned spent alot of time on the bench of a team that went to state, but he didn't have to mention that. The players knew it. He also forgot that one of the players that he mentioned STARTED!!!! Another player scored almost 100 pts. And all three got lots of playing time compared to the Coach Z's bench because Coach A's team was winning games by enough points at the end to be able to put the bench in. I now know why Coach Z thinks that Coach A recruits. It's because Coach A NEVER tells a girl that she isn't good enough. NEVER lies to girls about where they will be if they don't come to HIS HS. It's just not fair for Coach A to be so supportive and nice to young players when Coach Z is not capable of it. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!!!
  19. I LOVE IT! The "assistant" that you allude to, "I believe you may understand what I'm asking!" is coaching girls that are NOT part of his HS team. They are 8th graders, and from serveral different counties. He has coached girls from at least 5 counties with only ONE school complaining about his involvement. You seem to misunderstand the problem. It's not players being recruited to one school, but players not wanting to attend the other. Not till the other coach stops attacking a successful program will he begin to gain respect. And not till parents feel comfortable with their kids being around the staff (read questionable orientation) will the program begin seeing players coming there. But let me say, I hope that you don't stop. It's a great compliment to see a AAA coach feel so threatened by a AA program, not to mention all the humor that we get from watching that GROWN man act like a little child. The only negative is that the girls that are there now deserve to have a coach invest his time in building that team, not attacking another. But, if their parents accept that behavior I guess it's ok with me. He's not hurting us. We have the best team that money can buy.
  20. My two cents too late. If you are going to be upset with anyone with the loss, you need to be upset with the young ladies on the losing team. They are the only ones that are responsible with stopping the other team from scoring. NEVER get upset because some one is doing their job well. If the starters were in and they were being scouted by the next team then the coach was foolish to show more then he/she needed to. But the girls playing didn't practice hard and pay money and travel time so that they could play below their skill level. Was the second team in? You sure don't tell the girls that have worked hard and gotten less playing time that when they do get a chance to play that they should play anything less then full out. I'd take my daughter off the team of any coach that told her to play beneath her level. But lets not limit ourself to the winning teams game plan. Was the starters for the lossing team still in? I have seen a lot of coaches that are getting beat pull their starters in an effort to say "Let's just finish this." And when the winning team pulls their starters the lossing team shuffles their starters back in. Then it would look very poor on the winning coach to put their starters back in. These are the coaches (not the players) that deserve to be humiliated on the score board. I know it's not easy to take a good beating, but that is part of the game. You only get better by playing people that can beat you. But, if you want a kinder gentler atmosphere for you team, you may want to take them to the library.
  21. 3) Fifty percent rule - Participation (includes practice) during the school year on a non-school team (club) outside the school season by students that will play the following season on the same high school team is limited to 50 percent of the number of players required to play the game (ie, three in volleyball, five in baseball or softball, 3 in basketball, six in soccer and football) In each sport, only the specified number of students participating on a non-school team during the school year may be placed on the same high school team roster the following season. Those students cannot be interchanged on the school team roster. This rule does not apply to seniors who have completed their high school eligibility in that sport. (example - if four students play on the same non-school volleyball team outside the season, then only three of them would be eligible for the same high school volleyball team the following volleyball season.) Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, since my daughter is one of the many who this will effect, but what right does the TSSAA have to instruct what parents do and don't do with their own children during the off season? My daughter plays on a summer team with seven of her high school team mates Sounds strange, but they have been playing together since they were in the fourth or fifth grade. We live in a small town that can not field a summer travel team without being mostly girls from the same HS team, because there is only one HS. The TSSAA is saying that only towns that have at least three HS will be able to have a travel team and that would limit the travel team to just 9 players. Or else, players will have to join teams in other towns putting a VERY BIG time and money strain on families to get to practice and games. TSSAA needs to limit their involvement to qualifications concerning grades, attendance, residence, and limit number of HS Varsity games and date for practices. I have looked at my children's birth certificate and also at my loans, deeds and pay stubs and I see TSSAA NO WHERE on any of these. Next thing you know they will be limiting the number of family vacations TN student/athletes can take. You would think that the lost court case over private schools would have taught them a lesson about sticking to what they can control and leaving the rest to the parents.
  22. Could be, but how am I suppose to be able to talk trash if everyone thinks they know who I am?
  23. One team that is going to be tough is the McMinn Fire 15u team. This is the team's first year playing AAU, but the team has been playing together for about 6 years in different tourns. Alot of the parents didn't want to spend the money for AAU cert. at an age when no one was going to be looking at them. In that time they have beaten about every team that they have come up against and even played up a couple of years to get tougher competition. All but two of these girls are freshmen that made up McMinn Central's Varsity that made it to the elite eight in state AA. Two to three of them starting on varsity and the rest getting lots of time off the bench. Having not played AAU before I can't say that they will win, but I will say that there had best be a very tough team out there somewhere if they are going to be stopped.
  24. I'm sill wondering how CCHS will be divided and what if the team desides that they want to move to Stone with their coach, or if they decide they want to stay and finish out their years at CCHS. This seems like it could be a hard move for the students and players to make if it is forced on them. It also seems that if the county is zoned and players are forced to move that it would be hard to get two teams formed in a county where there was only one before. Even so, the word around here (McMinn Co.) is that Stone is expected to do well. And CCHS did pretty good this year.
  25. I don't think he's fast enough to play de or se. Right now he's been playing tackle and ng or "D" and center on "O". I would like to see him go there just because it would be easier for him to be noticed at Polk then at Central, but he problably won't go. But we'll still be coming to some of the games when Central is away. We'll be the folks with Central cloths yelling for Polk boys. I don't think Central will be around during playoff time so I'd like to see Polk represent our corner of the state well.
