  1. Thats life here in knoxville. It sucks but Webb had to agree to play bearden and west all on their fields in order to get them on the schedule. Now West(5A semi finals), Powell(5a), Bearden(6a), AE(4a), Central (6a) wont play webb anymore (who are all a combined 0-16 in their last 16 games against webb. Farragut refuses to play Webb even when Webb has offered to play both games at farragut. If i were MBA/ensworth/ba, id just bite the bullet and do it, heck you get to play in neyland stadium which would be pretty cool. Webb had maryville on the schedule but they backed out to do this (understandable), luckily when one of the d2aa teams didnt want to do it, webb was able to slip back in for a one time game with them. Maybe you could entice them to come play in the Titans stadium the following 2 years. Either way if neither of nashville teams do it, im betting McCallie or Baylor will jump in. I would love to see BA/MBA/Ensworth play Maryville in Neyland next year, I know its a long trip for back to back years but owell.
  2. You are right to believe these certainly feel like up years, but lets not forget the 1990-2001 years with, ryan chinn, pennington, husky, and terry copeland then the 04-currently with campbells, beelers etc.....just as a webb fan, i want to see my team and thoes blance brothers play against some teams that really challenge them. This league has "good teams" with DCA, FRA, USJ, ECS, DA, and looks like st george is growing to be good etc but would love thoes kids and the TEAM play maryville mccallie baylor farragut (if they would) etc...Hopefully we can will see something next year. The league would be great and fair if they added CPA, Goodpasture, BGA, PJP2, Briacrest, Catholic, Notre Dame, all into this division. that would be an awesome state playffs year in year out every game
  3. Ive followed webb football for a while. The blance brothers are great, special players,...that being said..the level of competition is way below than what webb faced in 2006, 07, 08, 05, and even way before that going back to 2001, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999. The 2001 team that went 7-5 was better than the 2006, 2009, and 2010 webb teams. The 2001 team played 3 state championship teams in McCallie, Goodpasture, and BGA. Add on to that a really good Briarcrest and MBA, a Notre dame team that had Darius Boweman. The competition doesnt compare really besides ECS and Catholic, which has been solid but not as good as when they had pemberton as the head coach from 02 to 08. Ive asked various memebers of the coaching staff prior to this year which where some of there better teams..they mentioned that 1996 team, 1999, 2001, 2005 teams. The 06 team wasnt better than that 05 team according to the coaches although they came through and won it. All this being said...i do agree that the next years teams could be very very good. Webb has a lot of talent coming up in the freshman sophmore junior classes, but until they start playing some teams other than lancaster, MJCS, Halls(0-10), Central(2-8), zion, Ezell-harding then as a webb follower i cant say this last few years where there top teams. The webb teams these past few years are not playing against talented players like Jermaine Copeland, Troy flemming, Ryan Karl, Golden tate, Brandon Warren, Dustin Lindsey, BJ Coleman, Lee smith, Harrison smith, Adarius Boweman, Patrick Turner, etc....
  4. Im kind of confused, are you implying that Webb's keeping their enrollement low to play in D2 A? As a webb fan i wish the school would really invest into football, b/c with it being really the only private school in knoxville, they could have a monopoly on all the athletes in the town if they waned to...if they did that, they could easily compete and win in D2-AA with MBA, MUS, Ensworth etc. Right now they need a bigger and depth laden oline to beat the very best in the state.
  5. Sounded like it was a good scrimmage. Maybe Webb and Maryville can schedule a game next year. Id think webb would want to beef up their schedule some b/c some of their divisional games are extremely weak being forced to play in the smaller D2 division, there are some real good teams they do play, but some dont belong on the same field. Id guess itd be a competetive game until the end where id think maryville would probably pull ahead b/c of debth and overall size of the front 7. Though if Webb could hit enough home runs with thoes little dynamic running backs they may be able to out score maryville. Maryville's a power but with thoes little scat backs webb has being junior and seniors in 2011, the following year, it could be a year webb could really compete with maryville and as we all know, Maryville's always one of the best in the state in all classes. Could be a fun game with the contrasting offenses.
  6. Its pretty clear by watching the game on t.v. that White station is a lot more athletic than maryville. The cbs for maryville are pretty good and there rb is solid, But WS is just more athletic. Maryville is a solid well coached team and wouldnt suprise me if they won even it being 16-7 right now. Switch the coaches and the game wouldnt even be close. Quarles is worth a lot like some of thoes DII coaches that makes 150,000-200,000$ a year.
  7. The score was 20-18 right? I didnt go to the game but it was 3 Tds to 3 Tds? Webb missed 2xpts im guessing and a 2pt conversion, while DA missed 1 xpt? Seems pretty even to me. From looking at the talk on here, DA has the better/bigger line while webb has better skill players. Should be some good playoff games. If Webb beats DCA who gets the #1 seed with the three way tie in the region? Im guessing form all the talk also that there must be a misunderstanding about the field. DA must just have a horrible field that was not thought out before they built it.
  8. Im a fan of Webb and follow them an after watching the game on tv today i think catholic should have just lined up and ran the ball. Catholic took away their big advantage: The Line, and a physical running back. Their line is much bigger and more physically imposing than Webbs. Williamson is a good QB but Webb could match up athletically with the wideouts (2 good safeties) plus a linebacker (waters) thats more of a walked up DB at LB, giving them a sound pass defense. Meadows was not smart trying to throw the ball what seemed like 70% of the time. An idea for catholic would be run the option with williamson and cozart, which i believe would be very difficult to stop. Use Williamson and cozart to run it, option, dives, veer, etc., with that huge Line, then pass it. Williamson is a great player and they should use him as a runner more. Catholic has a good team with some very good players. If they are smarter on offense, i see them winning many more games. One thing that has helped Webb this year is parker wormsley. I believe his ability to throw the ball effectively has really helped. In the catholic game i noticed catholics interior d-line was off the ball about 2 yards, im assuming to stop webbs trap play, but i think it hurt their ability to get a pass rush and giving parker the ability to throw key passes. I also cant believe they gave player of the game to jarvis jones who had 3 carries for 17 yards. It should of went to aaron (#5), parker(#10) or donavon(#18). That was probably the dumbest things ive seen this season.
  9. To think webbs key running backs are only 2 freshmen and a sophmore should worry the irish in this rivalry for the next 3 years. Webb could go on a 4 year streak of their own against the irish. Though catholic should get more comfortable under their new offensive system in the years ahead, if they do not have a good QB to replace williamson it will never work and will not beat webb. Good Qbs that are pure passers in HS are really rare.
  10. If dontthatappreciate really is Austin Hopps ill be disapointed. Ive watched you wrestle before and seemed to be a pretty good kid as well as a solid wrestler (103 and 112 lbs). Only now you've got on here and have acted like an idiot. Esp. when you talk about a kid, Tre', who probably beat you a few times when he was in 8th and 9th grade. I hope this isnt you, but if it is i also hope you stop the absolute nonsense and enjoy the rivalry without trying to insult people while making a fool out of yourself.
  11. donthateappreciate and 7nArow. You are acting like fools and are good examples why the youth of today are extremely immature. Streaks end. Just like the 19 game (plus 2 years catholic wouldnt play webb in 1995 and 1996) win streak Webb had on catholic before it was ended in 2002. During that span Webb would win by 40 pts a game, Opposed to a 4-6 webb team only losing by 4pts to a (15-0) state championship catholic team. If caleb can play, which im pretty sure he will, it will not suprise me if it happens friday. Catholic is a very good team though.
  12. He sprained his ankle, should be back next week
  13. I think you have to throw in Aaron and Caleb Blance from Webb to be on par with Young and Purdy. Aaron has had 6 carries for 187 yards and 4 td's in only 2 games (plus a very nice 70 yard play in the jamborree against farragut (he is just a freshman). Caleb ran for 1250 yrds last year as a freshman (against teams like Ensworth, Catholic, Baylor, McCallie, A-E, Father Ryan, BGA, etc) and has 160 this year but has only played 4 qrts of play. An interesting note but i do believe that Aaron, Caleb, Devrin young, and Tiano Perez of Farragut, were on a relay team together in middle school the won the 4X100 national championship, possibly breaking a record.
  14. I think people seem to constantly over look Webb as being just a team that wins on scheme. While Webb has been traditionly week on the line in terms of size, their skill players have been great for as long as they have been around. While they are a small school, they have been one of the top schools in knoxville/east tennessee that have sent players to D-1 or D1-AA level (including some lineman to Marshall, TN Tech, Virginia, and Ivy league). Currently i will challenge anyone to find a better sophmore and freshman running back tandem in the state. While caleb is small and may only end up at a school like Furman or wofford bc of his size, he plays high school football like a player that would get recruited to play in SEC. If his little brother Aaron gets to 5-8 i bet he can play at a major college football program as a DB. Regardless of their height they are phenominal players that will go down as one of the best Rb's in Webb's School history (which included High school All-Americans like Billy Arbo and Chip Howard who went to UT)
  15. I think you are thinking of Terry Copeland from Webb, he was really good. Matt Husky was another one from Webb, he went on to Pitch at UT, but i think ur thinking of Copeland. Copeland should have been Mr. football but 2 of 3 years he was in it, he was beat out by Troy Flemming
  16. After doing some more research, looks like Davidson academy has a pretty good team and a pretty good running back. It will come down to ECS, Webb, Davidson Academy, and USJ in my opinion.
  17. Not sure the last time West won 8 or 7 regular season games, not in this decade. but ill say they lose to Catholic, Farragut, Maryville, Bearden and possibly to Sullivan south(although i think they have played in a traditionally week region) nd Fulton. So i bet they will go 4-6, 5-5, and at best 6-4. They are in a much tougher region then they have been the last 2 or 3 years.
  18. In looking at all the state rankings for the last 10 years Webb and ESC typically appear among the top 30 teams in the state regarding all classifications. They have played tough schedules year in a year out and both are always top 10 schools in their cities, Knoxville and memphis. They are actually moving down a division so anyone would have to put them at the front. FRA and DCA use to have strong programs in the late 90's, but im not sure how they have been of late. I hear the jackson school has had a few good teams aswell. I think ECS and Webb are quite a bit better than the old D2A teams that have played since 2005, but thats all i know. I think they should have kept Webb and ECS in D2's upper division.
  19. Catholic should re-hire Chait....... Pemberton was the rise of catholic football, before he was there and they built that new school they were not very good.
  20. Caleb's little brother Aaron is awesome too. He is in the 8th grade and plays on the middle school team...he is the smoothest runner i have ever seen. He will be bigger then caleb, might already be in terms of height. Like caleb last year, no one has stopped him yet, albeit i know its just middle school. Hey, they did beat maryville and thats not bad at any level. If he gets to 5'10 he will be a college corner anywhere he wants, he can turn his hips like no other.
  21. On the all decade team...im guessing you dont include the players on Briarcrest, BGA, etc until once they join the league in whatever year they did. B/C im sure you would find a place on that team for players like Micheal Oher who is agruably the best tackle in college football and will be drafted high in the NFL or someone as simple as Ryan Karl or Golden Tate. Also how close was B.J. Coleman to Ingle...granit i think Ingle is a back up somewhere in the NFL and stared at Furman after he came from Florida.
  22. Well i guess i was the only one that took Webb. Webb won 19-6..Caleb the freshmen is going to be special. Webb is young and it was a sloppy game. A.E. always gets better as the year goes on. 4 in a row over A.E. now. Not bad, Webb now has 4 in row against powell, A.E., Bearden, 3 in a row against CAK, 2 in a row against West, Anderson county, carter...they have always dominated halls in the jamboree...too bad farragut wont play them, (they did once in the jamboree of 2001 which in 1qtr Webb was up 14-0), it would be a fun game...the only knoxville/prep extra area schools webb has not dominated when they have played is catholic(catholic has won 6 in a row but not before webb won 19 years in a row), Alcoa, and central in (1999 and 2000) of late.....not bad for a school with 200 boys.
  23. Well since everyone is taking A.E. i will take Webb. Webb has won the past 3 years (05, 06, 07) not that it has anything to do with this year, but Ill say it will be close but i really dont know what to expect. Webb has young, but talented backs and appears to have a good defense, so who nows, A.E. is always dangerous.
  24. Well since you pointed out that McCallie was a good win then you should say Webb was just as equally a good win, because Webb defeated McCallie last year. Webb would be a contender every year in 3a football....D2 State champs are just on a higher level than anyone else in the State.
  25. The thing is Webb will ussually play all their games in a knoxville series at the other school, like they did with Bearden, West, and do now with AE. They are willing to forfeit the gate to get a game against quality knoxville teams. They even offer that to Farragut, but they wont return the call. Just as other wont either. I was at all the Powell-Webb games that were at Powell and it was a packed house esp. since it was always the first game of the season. Also while Powell did have a lot of talent, Cody Watts, Lee Smith, Baron Huber, The Bruhins, and the kid that went to Michigan State and others, Webb had talent aswell..they were very athletic and fast, and thats why the majority of their players are playing division 1 atheletics in other sports. They also send there fare share of players to D1-AA schools to play football.
