  1. I keep throwing this one out there every time I see a Clarksville thread, but I'll go ahead and let everyone know my experience working over there. 1. Administration cares about firing people and getting rid of teachers and coaches because they feel that shows they are doing a good job. Administration wants to keep moving up. 2. Teachers are good people trying their best, but there is a reason you see a lot of teachers move away from NE, NW, KW, WC area. At the school I worked with the kids were great, administration was horrible. From the teachers I talked to, working at CHS or Rossview was the way to go, a lot more support for teachers on the south end of the county. 3. Sports are not important to CMCSS, test scores are. Some of the best athletes in the state without the support system needed to make them fighting for the top spot every year. Where I worked, we made that playoffs, lost to a power house that wins state every other year, the following Tuesday it was a "We are taking the football team in another direction." Never made playoffs since. So much freaking potential but Administration in the county is just awful.
  2. I hate saying it every year but it is the truth from 1A to 6A. And some of those schools, yeah winning the trophy is a great way for kids to transfer into your school. Greeneville and Elizabethton hit two years where they were above and beyond everyone, but generally 4A has been "Can we get past Anderson" and it seems like cruise control for the most part after that. Not every year, but that's been the story the past 5 years. Someone through around the idea of separating schools that take tuition vs general county schools.... I'd be interested to see where people would be classified then. But yeah, 5A and 6A in Upper East is a rough place to win championships.
  3. Been on the wrong side of that comment for more than a few years in different programs. It is what it is. Hard to say where the program is going to go after 1 day, but always hoping it drives people into Gray and keeps the youth programs full of kids. The 99 team just ran into an outrageous Witten lead Betsy, the 2009 crew had a shot at beating South but just couldn't hold that game together. 3rd round is where Region 1 has got to get to every year, but they are finding themselves in the same boat as all the Region 1 teams: Gotta get past Knoxville, gotta build programs to get over that hurdle.
  4. Hats off to Anderson. The way Greeneville was improving I thought the score would be reversed. Well deserved for this Anderson community that has been hungry for who knows how long. We know Greeneville will be right back at it next year, just as hungry. Good show from the Devils this year.
  5. 110% right. Boone, hats off, 12-1, best team in school history. Big rivalry wins, two Knoxville wins. You did our community proud. West.... good lord what a team. They'll coast the next two weeks and those kids should enjoy it. Amazing squad from West.
  6. Going with Boone all the way. Upset special, spectacular barn burner of a football game. Let's go and finally get past that third round this week. Beat West, state is yours.
  7. Greeneville wins, they just seem ticked off over last years disappointments and have been taking it out on every team they’ve played. Should be a good game, but gotta go with Greeneville on this one.
  8. Looked at this years ago, curious if anyone else has any more information. I figure between all the games, TSSAA brings in somewhere between 2.5-3 million off of football playoffs. Football runs all the other sports, we know that. How much of this goes to people who work in the offices of the TSSAA? How much of this goes towards insurance (I remember that being thrown around during the precovid 2020 "Are we playing football if we don't we can't do the other sports" convo) How much goes toward renting state championship spots? I know TSSAA takes care of official costs during the playoffs, but they put that on the schools during the regular season. I'd love to see that reversed if they are making waaaay too much money. That, to me, seems to be where most of the money goes toward. Would be interested in seeing an audit. I'm not going to lie, I am really curious to where everything goes and have been in the spot where making the playoffs doesn't seem worth it financially, but would love to see the numbers.
  9. I think they have a pretty good chance to get the job done, TN High has been lights out then thwomped the next. Tough schedule for them this year. Heard they had a few injuries so maybe some coming back helps them out. The TN High team that showed up week 8 was pretty dang tough.
  10. Would love to see Greeneville and Anderson, but heck an Elizabethton Anderson rematch will be the best game in the state 2nd round.
  11. Been a long time coming. New season starts so keep on winning and get everyone healed up. Not an alumni in school history can take 10-0 away from this crew. Potential TN High rematch 2nd round could be interesting.
  12. Sounds like a heck of a game for people to watch. When Hampton got that last TD I wasn’t sure if Boone could score that quick.
  13. I heard about it and it just shocked me to hear it. Hearts go out to everyone there and the young man and family. Geez I don't know what to say after hearing news like that.
  14. Cherokee in region 1 4a, may bump Seymour to region 2
  15. Going with Boone of course. Rivalry is still there so it should be a good one. Crockett doesn't have quite as many weapons over the course of the year, but... it's the Musket Bowl.
  16. WR has lost to: A (on paper) best school history Boone team A very good SH team Very good DB team A stingy Crockett team A East team that won less but had about the same score as WR did against common opponents It's building a new program from scratchish.
  17. Depends, no. Can really move it forward so it happens sooner, yes. You don’t really think that a central office gives enough money for every program in every sport to buy everything do you? That’s an enormous amount of money. Money spent with the profits of football frees up money in a budget in the general funds to buy something else that isn’t sports related.
  18. Big Numbers doesn't equal program success. I consider Boone an above average program but it took years of the Jr. Trailblazers program to get it to that level. Not heard quite as much from the feeder programs to WR, but I'd say it's going to take a few years to get the old North, South, and Central Pee Wee to Middle School on the same page. Also consider this, used to be hey I am an above average kid who is supposed to go to DB, I could go to a County school and walk into a starting spot. Now its just I can go to tradition at DB or the new 6A program in Sullivan County.... it's not even a decision, Sullivan County Schools opportunities are way behind Kingsport City Schools.
  19. Said this before and it was true a year ago, West Ridge wants to tread water in 6a until their numbers drop enough so they can be in 5A. If Sullivan County opened the online school, they'd drop enough to be down in 5A and East would be in 3A. West Ridge has the fancy look for the two big schools in the Tri-Cities, but that's about it. It's going to have the same problems as our other county schools, some years good, some years eh.
  20. Just going to give you a heads up. So schools are usually given a basic budget for sports and it isn’t much at all. If you want nicer things you have three options: fundraising, donations, ticket sales. Sports are expensive at the high school level. Uniforms, pads, helmets, replacement parts, buses, food, referees, security, and that’s just to run a program. High school football usually funds the rest of the sports at a school. Tons of people hit up football games, not so much at softball baseball or swimming. There will not be a public school system that blank checks normal football programs, so it’s up to finding money to get nicer things. Also with that football money… it can go into the school to buy things from a general fund. Want those fancy touchscreen TVs in classrooms, make money. Want a new digital media class in a school but don’t have money for equipment, better find the money. That is what people mean when they say make money for a school.
  21. Hats off to Betsy! I was pleasantly surprised to hear that one. The road to the 4a championship is going to be the best high school football this year.
  22. I'll say this, usually things that haven't been called before are getting a lot more attention. Equipment penalties seemed to be the theme from a few games last night. Saw a facemask penalty on a receiver who missed a pass but was no where near a face mask? Seen missed calls where only 6 people are on the line but for some reason certain officials are counting a wingback as a lineman. Seen holding alls on immediate cut blocks from the defense and seen obvious missed horse collars. IDK what is going on during the Tuesday rules meetings but it seems like penalties are a thing this year so up, coaching is all that can solve it.
  23. I thought it would be worse, but a win is a win. Sounds like Elizabethton is pretty darn close to getting things rolling if they can get an offense going. I know the Boone staff is more than ok with a defensive touchdown being just enough.
  24. Not an easy schedule by any means, Elizabethton, Morristown West (When's the last time we've beat them?) CAK, then Science Hill. Vols in October schedule. Next four weeks are the tests, they do that no reason not to be 10-0.
