  1. BB2004, careful of what you wish for. If Maryville moved up, they'd be in Region 2-5A; same as Bradley. Don't think Floyd wants that, not yet. Bradley just started getting the ball in to Groothuis on a regular basis, so the argument about two 6'9s is pointless. Dodd is pretty much used at the high post. I agree game will be won inside; if Bradley has four players in double figures, they win. If Oglesby realizes that he probably has Mr. Basketball won and doesn't try to prove to the state how good of a shooter he is, they win. But if he goes out there and starts to "let it fly", which he does have a knack for doing, the Bears go home. Believe it'll be a good matchup, could care less about the outcome, so not making a prediction.
  2. Bradley's boys haven't won state since the 60s; the girls haven't won since girls basketball went to 5-on-5.
  3. NSmith1789, At first you said you heard they tried to beat up your team, then you said that you saw it with your own eyes. Which one is it? If you're a McMinn County person that's mad that they got beat, so be it. But don't try to run down a team simply b/c they beat your team.
  4. Bradley Central was ranked #17 for a while during the 1997-98 season. Cleveland's girls were ranked as high as #8 this year. Shelbyville and Mt. Juliet are some others to mention.
  5. He is good; I talked with him at the Region 3 Duals and he knew a lot of info. I played basketball in h.s. and college, so this is only my second yr. of being involved with wrestling. Great sport.
  6. I'm Gene Henley, the guy who wrote the article about Miller winning state. I had spoke with Ward Gossett, wrestling guru for the Chattanooga TFP, and he told me that Miller was the first 8th-grader to win state since TSSAA recognized wrestling as an accredited sport. I probably should have cleared that up. I apologize. Congratulations to Miller regardless of the details.
  7. I really don't know. I live in the area and heard he was at the wrestling complex yesterday.
  8. Mang is back in school at Bradley Central.
  9. I have seen all of the above play. I'm from the Chattanooga area so have seen Oglesby more than the other two. It sounds good to say how many times Terrence has either led his team to a late victory or put games into overtime, but you have to ask, how many times had his shot selection shot them out of those games? He's an extremely clutch player, so BC fans need to be thankful he can shoot them back into a game as quickly as he can shoot them out. I agree that the bigs should get the ball more; they have been lately apparently. No reason a 6'8 and 6'9 guy (in high school) should be getting their points off of putbacks, especially when both might be D-I signees (Dodd already is-MTSU). Wiggins and Wattad are extremely good players as well, as is Allen. When Oakland played Butler, Alabama in the HTC, he almost propelled them to victory (losing by 6). When Bradley played them in the final, Oglesby had problems with the Butler pressure and finished with 10 points. I have a vote in the poll, still not quite sure who it's going to, yet.
  10. Jadoobirsingh hasn't been in school in a week and a half due to sickness.
  11. I also voted Oakland No. 1. Saw them play in Huntsville during the holidays in that loss to Butler, who went on to beat Bradley by 20+ in the finals. That's probably the best team in AAA, followed by R-E.
  12. Wow, they've got Mark ranked? He's a standout football player, I didn't think they'd rank him in basketball. That's good for him. Which recruiting source are you getting this from? I'd like to see it.
  13. Oglesby had 21, Groothuis 8 and Dodd 3, although Dodd had about 12 rebounds. Bradley only had 40.
  14. Oh, they're not my team, I was just stating the point about the seniors. I also agree about the call on Dowdell. Cheap, probably a make-up call. Maybe a personal, but not flagrant. I only know of three ranked seniors (Groothuis, Dodd and Oglesby). Who's the fourth? Speaking of Groothuis, I want to say that there's a big difference between Chattanooga Central and Bradley Central basketball. BC ball is obviously at a higher level; Groothuis is getting the best experience he's ever had. Unless BC gets some more recruits (I mean transfers), they'll be a middle-of-the-road team next year, because the cupboard is bare. Best thing they can do is ride the wave and enjoy this year, however far it takes them. Sorry I'm kind of jumbled, it's still early in the morning!!!!
  15. Bradley has a lot of seniors, but only three (Oglesby, Dodd and Gibson) have valuable experience. It was a great game, but I think the foul at the end was a little tick-tack; could and should have went uncalled.
  16. They were about to get Logsdon, but Coach Laxton at Bradley stepped down so Logsdon could take the job at Bradley and not coach against them
  17. Niala and Shonda made it for the Cherokees.
  18. I believe the winner of Miss Basketball should come from District 5-AAA. Going back to Ovrated98's statement, though, if you look at the posts, all I've heard about from AAA is Stewart and Pickel, so you kind of figure one of those players will win, whether they deserve it or not. If you look at overall competition, it would be hard to look away from a player in this district. District 5-AAA is the toughest district in the state this year; five teams with 17+ wins. Look at the competition; Cumberland Co., number 2 in the state; Cleveland, 20 wins, including a win over Cumberland; Bradley, 19 wins, including a win over Wilson Central; McMinn County, 17 wins, and Walker Valley, with 19 wins. Players like Foster, Hood, Simpson, Pickel, and Butler deserve a little consideration, because of the competion they face night in and night out.
  19. No, Bradley won't make it to state. Beyond Oglesby and Gibson, there is nobody else that can put the ball in the basket. TO will get 20+ per game, and Gibson will be good for around 15-17 per, but a 6'8 guy with 2 points and 3 rebounds against 6'4 competition is not gonna get the job done. Bradley makes it to the region, no further, although I think they could go next year, when Oglesby, Gibson, and Dodd (the 6'8 kid) are all seniors.
  20. Lebron Caslin from Walker Valley will be a good one to watch, he won the preseason 3-pt contest, and he's very quick, too.
  21. Is that Kyle's brother??? Sorry, I'm from Cleveland, but Kyle and I went to C-N together, and I know White County isn't that big, so I figured there was a connection.
  22. I believe one of the 3 Cleveland schools will be at state this year. Cleveland-has junior standout Kerri Simpson and point guard Angie Wells back, plus a trio of six-footers that make Cleveland a favorite. Bradley-has MTSU signee Jackie Pickel, plus Lauren Cassada and others to help Pickel in their quest to send her to Murfreesboro 5 months early. Walker Valley-has Alabama signee Alyson Butler, plus some others back from the squad that went to semis at state last year. Biggest problem is, that was 2A, and the Mustangs moved up to 3A, and are in the same district as Cleveland, Bradley, and Cumberland County this year, who I think is the favorite.
  23. I'm real surprised Alyson Butler from Walker Valley didn't make it. I mean, she's only going to the University of Alabama.
  24. Top 4 from chattanooga area (as of 10/14, according to Chatt-Times) 1. Antonio Robinson 2. Seth Skogen 3. Kevion Jones 4. Eric Atchley
  25. You said McMinn will never beat Bradley at basketball, yet, when Tenisha Gist was at McMinn (and FHM's own Brittany Jackson was at Bradley), McMinn used to beat Bradley. McMinn's girls were very young last year. This isn't a girls basketball post, but with three of the best players in the state in one district (Kerri Simpson-Cleveland, Alyson Butler-Walker Valley, Jackie Pickel-Bradley) and one of the best teams in the state (Cumberland Co.), District 5-AAA might be one of the best districts around this year. As far as football, McMinn is a lot better than people think, as is Bradley. I think that one win has given Bradley a chance to toot their own horn, but i don't think that they can beat Ooltewah, or Farragut, or William Blount. They might go 3-7 if they sneak past Heritage and beat McMinn. McMinn's comin off a big win over Rhea County. Don't be surprised if the Cherokees put together a couple more wins before its all over with.
