  1. Was Coach Taylor approached for the job?
  2. I agree! He knows Karns is one of the toughest places to try to put together a winning program. Negative "he said; I said" back and forth definitely won't help. Coach Taylor did have the winningest tenure of any long term coach at Bearden. Bearden has been a very political place for the past few years. The softball coach after putting together a winning program was runoff after coach Taylor left. This year the boys basketball coach (the long term winningest basketball coach at Bearden) was shanghaied. These coaches are not in the administrations "back pocket". If a person is -- then he has a very good chance of getting what he wants.
  3. The following I do know. Coach Taylor has very good character. He runs a disciplined program. He has high expectations for his players. Is well versed in football knowledge, just like the majority of area high school coaches, whether they are at Fulton, Farragut, Maryville, Central, or wherever. Has often been a help to many players away from the football program, again just like most of the area high school coaches. Again, like most high school coaches, puts in the 80 hour per week work load. These type of coaches are who a parent should want their child to have as a coach. And definitely not the type of some of these self-righteous blowhards on message boards! etc., etc., etc.
  4. An announcement was expected today (Friday) but a tragedy in the community has delayed that.
  5. Let us hope that the next Superintendent will embrace Southern Culture (which includes athletics. Let me say that again -- Southern Culture includes athletics) as well as understands that in this area a couple inches of snow is usually crippling to school transportation due to our terrain.
  6. Apparently this is a weak region. Only 2 wins inn playoffs. At least one 6 - 4 team lost to a 2 - 8 team. WEAK. However, the predicted state 6A champ does come from this region. I'm not sure how that helps the other teams.
  7. Apparently this region is weak. Only 2 wins in the playoffs. At least one 6 - 4 team lost to a 2 - 8 team. Weak. Predicted 6A state champ does come from this region, for what good that does for the other teams.
  8. Maybe there is a connection to a "dead horse". On August 9, 1995, at 4:23 am, eight days after his 53rd birthday,Jerry Garcia was found dead in his room at the rehabilitation clinic.[5][65] The cause of death was a heart attack.[66]Garcia had long struggled with drug addiction,[5] weight problems, sleep apnea,[5] heavy smoking, and diabetes—all of which contributed to his physical decline.
  9. I do remember one that was very exciting against Bearden. Bearden had a player by the name of Devrin young. Near the end of the game, DB had gone ahead. They kicked to Bearden and made sure they did not kick it to that Young boy. What they did not expect was that the up back caught the ball and then turned and lateraled to that Young boy. And that little fellar made a fantastic run and scored a TD! Bearden won!
  10. Often, those who spout off a lot have limited knowledge. Trainers plus thoroughbreds equals good chance at first place trophies. Trainers plus work horses equals good plowed fields. The key is thoroughbreds. I noticed W/B got spanked again last evening.
  11. Most average H.S. teams would have a problem if their top 2 running backs were lost for the year. West has a good football team. Maybe South Doyle will by next year after they get more experience and stronger -- as they are basically are playing sophomores and a freshman.
  12. Well, the football team did make it to the semi's a few short years ago for their first time in school history -- something few teams in Knox county have been able to accomplish .Knox county's system is not set-up for that to happen easily for most of its schools. Then they built a heck-of-a nice fieldhouse. But the school's headmaster is a meddler and likes to tell everyone how to do their job so the HC left along with some assistants. Last I heard the headmaster had been calling up to ETSU, trying to tell their coaches how to coach. No question though. it should be a track meet for that team from the foothills.
  13. After West Town was built. The mall was planned several years before it was built. Just couldn't get the financing for several years. Originally,as I recall, Chrysler Corp. was going to be a major player in financing, but then they got into financial trouble. Took some time to get enough financial partners together to begin construction. The anchor stores of JC Penny; Sears; and Miller's opened in the fall of 1972 -- I believe. After that, it was a time of steady growth.
  14. This is the "Old Bearden" High School. The more green looking field is the Old football field, had seating on both sides. To the right of the football field in this photo was the baseball field. Deep center field was up on a hill (near the building) -- I played there a few games in 1960 & 1961. The current Bearden HS opened in about 1970 a few miles west at it's current location. East Tenn. Natural Gas (now defunct) owned the land where the current practice field; field house; soccer field; and softball field are located. Knox County could have bought this land when the Gas Company went out of business -- but passed on it. Until later, then bought it for several hundred thousand dollars more from those that did buy it earlier. By the way, back east on Kingston Pike at "Bearden Hill" where Papermill Rd. comes in at the traffic light --- is supposed to be the location where the "whiskey runner" of Thunder Road (movie) fame was killed while being chased by "Revenuers".
  15. Where is Ftballman246? Haven't heard a peep from him since Farragut slobber knocked Bearden. Maybe he is too busy with excessive running in the late afternoon. WB has an excellent chance for a win this Friday.
  16. It worked well enough to beat Bearden -- is the point!!!
  17. I understand that HVA used much of Bearden's former offense along with a former OC/Play Caller to score 41 points and much offensive yardage while playing mostly reserves in much of the second half in their win last week over Bearden!!!
  18. "Stay" means exactly that -- meaning for the full 48 minutes of the game. As you said, " Hardin Valley was the better team".
  19. West in the win column this game.
  20. Farragut gets the "W". Makes little difference the margin of victory, it is still a "W". Bearden couldn't stay with HVA --- they won't be able to stay with Farragut either.
  21. S/D is very young and inexperienced. Made very high number of mental errors in first game. Made fewer in Karns game. Karns drastically changed their offense between the Bearden game and S/D game. Of course, S/D was not prepared for the change and the youth/inexperience was not able to adapt much during the first half. Second half was much different after having time to make adjustments. After seeing Karns' running back, it is very evident why Oklahoma State gave him scholarship offer. He is big, fast and has very good skills. S/D has some talent but it will take more experience for them to break into the "W" column.
  22. They have a good high school football team as well. They are not going to win the state championship -- but they do have a good team. They had 2 to 1 offensive yards compared to West last week -- with the #2 quarterback as the #1 QB was lost for the season about a week to 10 days before the game. Special teams let them down.
  23. Then you have missed the best type of multi team scrimmage, in my humble opinion.
  24. I can tell you have not been to a multi team scrimmage. There are 2 scrimmages going on simultaneously, as a rule. Some segment of your team are always scrimmaging. Either your 1's or your 2's or your kicking teams, and even your freshman if they attend. It is usually a very fast paced practice. You should attend one of these type scrimmages so you will understand better.
