  1. You have to be a senior to officially sign. I do not think they can be formally offered as Juniors either.
  2. I would agree. I think Sam was the leader on the field. Offense and defense he fueled the team. He gave all he had every game and played almost every down. Kids like him don't come around too often.
  3. Thanks for all the positive posts from Milan fans. You guys are class acts yourself, both fans and players. I can tell that the discipline and respect Rankin has brought shows through, and I am proud of that. I would hope that when we eventually lose to a school of our size we handle it with the class and grace of the Rebels. All streaks must eventually end. I just think Alcoa has a legit shot at 6 and 7. Milan is the only team I have seen get down to Alcoa 21-0 and not just roll over and take it. They stayed strong and that is the sign of a good coach. Many teams let 21-0 snowball to 42-0 and beyond.
  4. Great post. 2A is weak in comparison and I think the only thing left to interpretation is what close is. As far as we never had a game come down to a final drive no one was close, and that is hard to do in football. I hope GQ and Co. stay intact. I'd hate to see them split, but I feel eventually all coordinators in such great programs will become head coaches. I feel that it may be in Coach Nixs future as well, but I hope we can enjoy him a while longer.
  5. Put that stirring stick away and don't poke the hornets nest. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  6. I know. We should fire our recruiter. It is obvious he cannot pick up good sized players. It is amazing we have won so many with the average sizes he has brought in. Now if we fielded 6'1 230lb backers I would get behind him.
  7. tcaee- "while that may be true you cant deny the fact that if milan was one of the only schools in the county they certainly couldve better competed with alcoa" If there were only one school in Blount County there would be no records they couldn't set. Last thing other schools want is Maryville and Alcoa to join and combine talent and coaching. Alcoa is the only school in the county with less than 1,000 students. Maryville, William Blount, and Heritage would all be 6A. That is one of the weakest arguments I have heard. If Alcoa and Maryville were one school I am pretty sure they would be nationally ranked.
  8. I took a look at 3A next year and I do not see a team that appears to stand in the way of number 6. AE may be a good game but I don't think they can hold a candle to Alcoa.
  9. Sam would like to continue football I believe. Maybe if Vandy offers him he can walk on. His grades and intelligence can get him anywhere, it is just a matter of if he plays football or not.
  10. You always come through. Tough break for Maryville, I was cheering for you all to win. I think the loss will fuel what they do next year. I hope they make a run to the Boro in 6A now. Just to show all the doubters they can play with the big boys. Good luck MHS, except when we play you all. Hopefully I will still be around for the game next year, even if I have moved off I will try to come in for that tradition.
  11. I would also add that there is an academic attraction for parents as well, and then combine that with the small school atmosphere and quality football. We don't have to recruit. No coach goes out and asks another player to transfer.
  12. Here is how it works, to my knowledge. If you live in Alcoa or Maryville you pay both City and County taxes. Therefore you can send your kids to either the City or the County school. If you live outside the city you must pay tuition to attend. If you played sports at a previous school you must wait a year to compete. Same system we played under when we had losing seasons.
  13. Thanks Rebelron. Congrats to the rebs as well. The streak had to end sometime, I was cheering for you all though.
  14. Did you see that blurry thing whizzing by your head? It was way over his head, if he were taller he'd of been hit.
  15. What a great post. Seems it always comes up every year. I believe that when a coach of football supports wrestling he in turn helps his football team. Alcoa has not been known to have the best wrestling team in the state, but they have never had true help from the football team. A few coaches said they supported it but actions did not equal words. During my second year coaching Alcoa Middle school Gary Rankin entered as head coach, and his son entered into wrestling. This gave me an oppurtunity to get his opinion on wrestling. He ws very much in favor and believed that it helped players on the field and he has said he will support the high school team. I know he is encouraging players to go out and try it. That is what more coaches should do. Rankin is among the top coaches in state and he allows his son to participate, because he believes it will improve him as long snapper and on O Line. His main concern is weight loss but as long as loss is healthy there are no negative side effects. Its easy to beef back up to football weight. I can only hope that htis support helps both wrestling and football at Alcoa, not that a team that has won 5 in a row needs much help.
  16. Move Milan higher. CAK only plays hard against Alcoa and lost to Boyd so that brings them down. In 2A I would have 1. Alcoa 2. Milan 3. Marion 4. Boyd 5. CAK Marion or CAK against Milan would be good but the more I think about what I saw the more I think Milans speed would win.
  17. Wait a second. #88 was only a soph? Wow, that kid has potential. It was a pleasure watching Sam in his final game. I was behind the wonderful family of his, who filled up a whole row to see him play. Was able to catch up with his brother on life. I will eagerly await the decision he makes regarding school, as I will all Alcoa players.
  18. Everyone ignore the ranting idiot. He is not a representative of the maryville fan base. As for Hillsboro, good job. I wanted to see the Rebels win but you guys did your job and took home the gold. Maryville, you all are pure class. The article in today's paper shows it. I am sure the loss stings, but the streak couldn't last forever, and you all seemed to have handled it with class. It is not the end of an era, as I expect Quarles to have you guys right back around. The national publicity for TN football is awesome.
  19. I was watching on TV so it was hard to tell. I had no dog in the fight, I just wanted to see some laterals. I'm a fan of good endings, but the effort of Oaklands back was nothing short of impressive. It was a great ending regardless. They could of taken a field goal but instead with about 15 seconds left they called their last timeout and ran up the middle ( I think it was their last timeout). I think they would have made it known, it was hard to tell with all the on field celebration.
  20. I was referring to tntiger, not yourself. I understood your post. I just don't want it too look like Alcoa is trying to steal any attention from Hillsboro. You all took down Goliath, but from watching I think you all were not David, but rather a team that deserved fully to win. You all matched up evenly and were very athletic. Maryville was sloppier than I have ever seen them and they lost. But it was a great run as the respectable Clint Abbot said.
  21. Franklin threw a quick pass. Reciever went out of bounds with what appeared to be one second left on the clock. Replay showed the same thing. Oakland ran out in celebration assuming the game was over. Refs called the game. In reality one last play was a long shot, but you never know. I think the ball would of been on Frankilns own 35 or 40. Not sure about the yardline.
  22. Game ends. I thought Franklin should have had one more play, but instead of having one second left they called it game. May not of made a difference, but it could have. Great game.
  23. What an ending. Assuming nothing spectacular Oakland has won 20-13 with an amazing 3rd effort on the goal line.
  24. Enough is enough. I am die-hard Alcoa, but this thread is Hillsboro and Maryville and we really need to limit talking about ourselves. If you want to talk Alcoa start a thread in the 2A section about Alcoa. Lets not take way from the great accomplishment of Hillsboro so we can pointlessly argue. So comment about the game, congratulate the Boros, but lets not get off topic. I am sure others will do the same.
