  2. That is a great question, and depending on who you ask there will be several different answers. There are several quality teams in both divisions each year. The majority of both public and private do wrestle each during the season at different tournaments. Although one of the strongest public school programs Bradley Central High School does not wrestle private school teams during the season. The reasoning is unclear depending on who you ask, and for me the argument has valid points on both sides. The private schools have several tough teams each year, just to name a few Baylor, McCallie, Christian Brothers, and Father Ryan. This year the private school division is as close as I have seen it in many years and will provide a great weekend in February when our state duals will be wrestled in Nashville. In the public school division several schools are making noise on the mat. Here are a few of our better teams Bradley Central, Cleveland, Ooltewah, Clarksville, Independence, and Science Hill. All of these teams have their eyes on the prize and that is to knock off Bradley Central who have been at the top of our ranks for several years. At this time the private school division is the toughest with several of the teams mentioned above beating the public schools in matches this season. Hope this helps and hopefully this doesn't start a huge debate.
  3. Thats a good thing! Sorry for the oversight.

  12. January 16, 2010 (Saturday) 10th Annual Fandetti-Richardson Brawl @ Freedom Hall Civic Center Johnson City, Tennessee (Science Hill High School) Entry Fee: $125 Tournament Format: 16-Man Bracket Modified The first three rounds will be round-robin format which gives all wrestlers a three match minimum. Based on those results the winners from each quarter bracket will advance to the championship semi-finals which will earn medals 1st-4th. The runners-up from each quarter bracket will advance to the consolation semi-finals which will earn medals 5th-8th. This tournament format allows all wrestlers to wrestle a minimum of 3 matches for the weekend, and 8 of the 16 wrestlers in the bracket will wreslte 5 match minimum. I believe this allows the most matches for your kids in a single date. 13. I as a wrestling coach in Region 1 know most of the officials in our region and the 4 officials that called the region 1 tournament this weekend in Greeneville. It would be easy for me to get on here and be critical of these men, but in the same scope it would be easy for people to get on here and be critical of me and my job as a wrestling coach. We may not agree with calls that are made and the implications of those calls, but to say we have the worst officials in the state is not being fair to those men. I can look back on this weekend and rememebr when I thought a bad call was made and ofcourse it made me mad, but 15 minutes later you have another match and it is over and I can still keep a positive relationship with the officials. Like them or not you have to live and respect them and the job they are doing for our sport. I give the officials as much grief as the next man, but also understand that they along with myself are human and make mistakes everyday and should not be judged on that but rather the relationships that those officials have with us the coaches and our kids the wrestlers. I watch our officials interact with our kids and see how they have a great relationship with our kids and other coaches and yes there will always be situations occur that we will not agree with but as coaches we must look over those times and understand that is just part of the game. I do however have a growing issue with parents more these days than I have ever had with officials. I am shocked at the number of parents that believe that they are entitled to say or act however they want at these tournaments. I have had more problems from parents at home matches and away this season than any other year that I can remember of my 16 years coaching the sport. I would suggest that parents let the coaching be done by coaches and officiating be done by officials and you be the parent that is a positive support system and not one that is acting like a 12 year old mouthing off to everybody in the gym. These are just my opinions and ofcourse I imagine that someone will have thier own counterpoint which is to be expected.

(District 2 Champion) vs Dobyns-Bennett (District 1 Runner-Up) Winners wrestle for the Region 1 Dual Championship, and the Runner-Up of this match will host the Runner-Up from Region 2 (Halls, Karns, South-Doyle, or Heritage) for the additional TSSAA State Duals spot.
  18. Is it fair that it is hosted in the same high school gym year after year? I am not saying that Artie doesn't do a fine job of hosting the tournament in Clarksville, but the meaning of the earlier post was to say we should have options of wrestling that tournament in different venues. I wouldn't be opposed to allowing different cities throughot the state to host the event from year to year. I just don't think it is a level playing field to have a state tournament in a gym that is home to a very successful wrestling team that attends the tournament every year. This happens in other sports, for example there was games held in the baseball state tournament last year at Oakland High School which happend to be playing in the state tournament. Was that an unfair advantage to be playing teams hours away on your own home field? I think there are options out there which some people don't want to consider and it is always the travel excuse.
  19. I don't see the Memphis teams complaining when they travel all over the southeast in the regular season in charter buses to attend tournaments. I am tired of hearing the same old argument year after year.
  20. We have a ton of parents behind the scenes that make that tournament a success.

  24. Mick I will see Renner in a few hours and pass the message along to him. I should be making the final scratches this morning and will post the seeds in each weight class later today if possible.
  25. Yes the tournament is bigger than the Topper Palace can hold and we have made arrangements to hold this brawl in Freedom Hall Arena. I will post the tournament seeds later this week for the public to view. There are several weight classes that are loaded with several returning state medalist from different states. I think the best weight class will be 119 or 171 which has several state medalists in each.
