  1. I'm interested in some of these scores as well. Looks like Van Buren had it back to 2 points starting the 4th- how did that happen? I wasn't expectint them to be terrible, but didn't think they could hang that close at Forrest. Can they contend with the "top four" better than most have previously predicted?
  2. So no scrimmages? CSAS? Sale Creek? South Pitt? Anybody? Lets hear some results- who did you play and how did you look?
  3. If I'm not mistaken Van Buren only lost a couple of players and return the vast majority of there team that has made the region semis the last 2 years before being ousted by Forrest both times. Plus both years the district semifinal games they played with MTCS were barn burners that could have gone either way. My question is why no one is giving them a chance? I think they should be mentioned in the top 3 rather than 6th.
  4. have any of these teams scrimmaged? anyone have some results?
  5. Congratulations to the young coach. One question though: I thought dead period had been extended? It was my understanding that basketball was now dead until August 20th. Is my information incorrect? If I'm right someone better tell Coach Rigsby because he was quoted as saying he could start working with players in July.
  6. Community has the most coming back, but it hasn't materialized to this point so it will be interesting to see how they fare as favorite. Cascade returns a lot as well, but it will interesting to see who scores besides Carkuff. Forrest lost some, but has enough returning to contend because their defense always keeps them in games. Eagleville is in the same boat with returning talent in the Wilson boys and the tallest returning player- they should contend too. Big questions surround Van Buren after losing a ton of talent, but they played a lot of people this past year and after watching them for the past 3 years I would expect them to be prepared to compete until I see otherwise. And yes, nothing can be said for sure until we know how all these improvements to MTCS athletics will improve their "talent pool". The season is a long way off but I'll take a stab and say they finish like this: Cascade Community Eagleville Van Buren Forrest MTCS Boys
  7. Cascade & Forrest are mirror images of each other. Both play walk it up the floor methodical styles while calling a set play every time down. They must have 20 set plays each. They both only play about 6 players each and never get out of their 2-3 zones regardless of time and score. Eagleville is going to play half court man no matter what. They also walk it up and have very little size. They have no post up game and are going to run their sets to shoot 3's every time. Van Buren is alot like Eagleville with no size and also like to walk the ball and control tempo. They will only play half court crazy man defense with tons of traps and switching. They deny ball pressure and all that hectic stuff. Again lots of sets with a lot of 5 out weave stuff. No need for anyone else from our side to help this guy out anymore - I've given him enough already. Good luck to district 10. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  8. After reading these throughout the year is seems to me that Van Buren's girls are going through what Community's boys went through last year. Parents constantly complaining about the coaching. Except that your girls are the only team to beat Forrest in 2 and a half years in district competition and got to the region semis last year which are both good accomplishments. I've seen where at times you've been sporadic this year, but that happens from time to time. It looks like things are getting on track now. I hope your girls don't listen to the outside voices and tune in to the coaches for the remainder of your season because you are very talented. And most of all I hope your administration don't fold to the pressure (if it's being applied) like Community's did. Good luck to you except when you play us!! Go Champions!!!
  9. Is this is a joke? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  10. I wonder if we will see a press with under a second left?
  11. Anyone think "the boys from the mountain" /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> can hang with us on our home floor? I don't see it!!
  12. Answers: Who will outplay norris? - Carkuff (Cascade), Porter & Lillard (Eagleville), Schnapp (Forrest), Baker & Smith (Van Buren) - & these are the obvious ones, I might be overlooking some more In the post - The posts at Eagleville are better and I think any coach in the league would take Smith from Van Buren over your 2 as a pair. He is the best post in the district. Natale - I'm sure he's a warrior, but the guards mentioned above are all better than he is. Now before anyone thinks I am being nasty I'm just doing what you asked; running down the matchups. I'm not trying to down your kids - it's just the way I see it. Good Luck!!
  13. hey ptgrd12 - you ever think of doing a boys poll? i think people would really enjoy it!!
  14. saw in the tennessean where you guys played dekalb tonight - how'd you all look?
  15. Well - How did your boys look?
  16. look for Forrest to sweep the district and for Van Buren and MTCS to battle it out for 2nd. Heard vb had a player hurt last year that was really good so she should pick up the slack, but i don't see them unseating the rockets
  17. Well I thought my Champs could make another run this year, but with Brandon gone and the loss of the seniors I don't think it will now. I think we will be competitive but thats all. My picks are as follows: Van Buren Eagleville Cascade Community Forrest MTCS Boyd For player of the year I will go with either of the 2 from Van Buren who have been there for what seems like forever.
  18. Getting players and parents opinions is exactly the opposite of what a smart person would do. Personalities on a team change from year to year with roster changes and if you want a coach to stay for the long haul then trying to fit a coach to personalities right now is pointless. Popularity is of little use to because as soon as playing time is dealt coaches are rarely popular anyways. I mean look at Edmondson. Does his job plays and starts the 5 best and parents whine and complain. That is the opinions you will get when asking parents - based on who will play their child. Regardless of what anyone after me says Edmondson played the BEST and was fired b/c of the unprofessionalism of parents and the administration. I mean how professional is it that Ralston even sat in on that meeting. An administrator who understands the trials of a coach will be loyal and it is beyond me why anyone else would even want to coach with this guy as their boss. If you took a poll of coaches around the district I guarantee they ALL would say that Coach Edmondson was a good coach and that the players off the bench were not as strong as the starters. So bottom line: if he is doing a good job (which he was) and he isn't abusing any players(which he was not) he should keep his job. He didn't so we can see who Ralston is listening too. Back to the asking the parents though: Ask other coaches(the coach pope idea is solid) other administrators, people they have worked with, and if you ask players or parents ask the ones they have already coached (both the ones who played a lot and those who didnt). This will give you a good idea of who is right for the job.
  19. Early questions: Can eagleville build on their late season run with all those big guys returning and Porter being a Senior? Can cascade recover from our region collapse? Who will fill in around Hall & Carkuff? Will Van Buren keep up with their losses? Can Baker and Smith continue to dominate? Who fills out their roster? Can Community finally get over the hump with all these young players we've been hearing about for 2 years? Can Forrest replace all those seniors? My early predictions: 1 - Eagleville 2- Cascade 3- Van Buren 4- Forrest 5- Community 6- MTCS 7- Boyd MVP - Baker from Van Buren
  20. You're right -you guys still have the region, but the other night our guys were just HOT! It would have taken an amazing game from you all's defense, but hey we couldn't stop you either. And I am not sure where you got your comments concerning #42 when you consider you guys scored 75 points. He took what came to him, and we tried extremely hard to stop him which left others open and they responded! And as for last year - I remember watching the district tournament up on the mountain as you call it and the only people who choked were the 2 players who kept shooting contested 3's all night long. #42 is a class player and for you to get on here and dog him is I don't think representative of what all of us from cascade have said positively about your program, school, and community.
  21. I was looking at the records for all of our district opponents and noticed that on here someone has put that Van Buren lost to Boyd Christian the same night we played them at their place. What's up with that? Go Cascade - We are on a roll baby!!
  22. Oh my gosh - I know you just did not call them out for strenght of schedule. Granted those aren't great teams, but they would fare pretty well in those weak east tn districts. You guys have the worst basketball in the state and you are calling someone else out? That is hilarious. You would not make it out of our district!
  23. Union City - will run away with state tournament - will rename it "union city invitational" after they run through it for 2nd year Humboldt - probably finish 2nd Temple - will win until they play someone from the west. Jackson Co. - just a hunch, playing good right now Nashville Christian - getting frazier back took them to another level Culleoka - will peak at the right time, demario will take over when needed Harriman - good team + weak regions = state tournament by default Cloudland - should show about the same as they did last year
  24. I hate to say it, but i dont think we can keep up tonight. I hope I'm wrong though. Should be able to get back on the winning track tomorrow at Van Buren.
