  1. Amen, Scots Teens that play football deserve credit for participating.
  2. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, it would be Christmas all year long!
  3. I can relate and remember a lot of these names from South Blount County, although I'm a lot younger than you guys. HaHaHaHaHa
  4. It was at Alcoa High School after Alcoa and Lake County played for the A championship. I was the game director for both games. One of the hardest things I have ever done was run my friends out of the stadium after the first game.
  5. In the 70's we could never beat Kingston, but that was when I was trying to coach. In 1973, we threw the winning pass in the end zone and caught it, but we were called out of bounds, that might have been 1972, Kingston won the State Championship that year. In 1969, in a snowstorm that left 3 inches of snow on Goddard Field on November 14. they beat us 8-0 on a kick-off return to our 30 to start the 2nd half, that they pushed in for a touchdown. I remember great games with us as a loser until Little Al caught a touchdown pass in the playoffs around 1990 that allowed us to win 7-0. The tide has turned, probably because of the expertise in coaching, with the leadership of Coach Gary rankin.
  6. BC, I'm glad I know who I'm responding to."Pardon mu grammar" You are a great supporter of the tornadoes. You will always be my friend.
  7. Add amultiplierof 1.8 and Alcoa is still 3A. I tired of the crying.
  8. I have been asociated with Alcoa Football since 1969 and was a fan before that. We do have an advantage, because we attract sudents to Alcoa because of the athletics and the academics. Why should other schools not play Alcoa, it is a terrible problem to try to schedule 10 games. It has been and it will always be, I guess. I actually wish that we would do away with the playoffs and play for the kids to have fun. That will not happen. When folks are as jealous as they are, we will always look at the scoreboard. Just remember that students learn from playing athletics, whether they win of lose.
  9. Great research Budrock! I'm proud of you, I thought you were an engineer- math whiz.
  10. Please help me, I'm in the Dominican Republic and I need a score.
  11. I'm older than all you guys and I think schools should play where the TSSAA puts them and let the chips "fall where they may." Who cares about all the teams in Texas and Ohio?
  12. Amen- Warhawks, don't try to get too much involved early in the season. The long pass against Murvul did wonders.
  13. i can't agree more, I love the Rebels, just a little less than my tornadoes. Go hard maroon and grey. You guys are the best.
  14. It was a classic, I've been associated with Maryville-Alcoa football games since 1969 and tonight's game was a classic. I am proud to be from Blount County, the home of two of the best football programs in TN. I hope that Blount and Heritage will get in the fray and try to compete.
  15. I have been enjoying this game for over 50 years and I have been disappointed lots of times. It is just a ballgme and whatever happens will be forever. Please allow the young people who have the privilege to play to have fun. As some people have said before, 10,000,000 people in Asia don't know and don't care what happens.
  16. Thanks, CoachJimmy, I said I wasn't sure and I appreciate all help at my age.
  17. The Administrators from the school should insure that the schools continue to play and take the necessary steps to insure that the athletes conduct themselves appropriately. These atmospheres are where children become men and make great citizens for their respective communities. Clint Abbott- I was principal at Alcoa High School for 22 years and we always looked forward to playing Maryville High School, even though they beat us more than we beat them. From 1970 until 1985, we lost a lot of very close games and our athletes became better citizens for the opportunity to compete with the Rebels.
  18. Tommy Yates also has his number retired at Alcoa. I'm not for sure, but I believe he was number 52. This was before you had to wear a certain number because of your position. He was an All-Southern running back at AHS in Bill Bailey's early years as HC at Alcoa. There are many other great players in AHS history. Boomer Boring and several players that went to Georgia Tech and played. H. H. Lingenfelter and his brother Ronnie can help with that information. Bobby Phipps would also be helpful. When I went to AHS in 1969, Tommy and Albert, SR were the only players to have their number retired.
  19. In 1980, Alcoa played Webb and the score was 20 for Alcoa and 0 for Webb. If you look at Webb's list of state champions, 1980 is listed, because they went on to win the championship.
  20. Alcoa has a hard time finding anyone that will play them in an out of region game. This game was part of a contract that was planned two years ago. Alcoa just could not find anyone closer that would play them.
  21. Ray Dalton was truly a very good coach and a great coach to officiate for. When he questioned, you listened.
  22. MLREB- I'll bet a lunch that I can name you within two choices.
  23. Alcoa would love to not have to go out of state to fill their schedule, but schools that are close and should play Alcoa choose to take the soft way out. As for the drop and add statement, where did you get your information? Don't get an old man riled up!
  24. Prayers to the the Smith family in this time of grief. Clint Abbott
  25. Coach Rankin is looking for his fifth state championship in a row and Alcoa's seventh in a row.
