  1. This is about the remark about a kid being better than the talent on the floor. Parents do not realize that yes at times you child is better than the people play but your child wants to play their kind of ball. If a better player can't play within the system then the player will not get as much playing time. We tell our kids to go out every night and play their game as long as it is in our system. This doesn't mean that every time you get the ball it's dribble to the hole but to work in the offense until you have the oppertunity to do what you can do.
  2. This one is about seniors paying their dues. This year we dressed out a Freshmen on the varsity level. He skipped a whole year of learning our system on the Freshmen level. The way we see things are if a Freshmen has the same or more talent than say Soph. Junior. or Senior then we are going to go with the Freshmen. We have got 3 more years to work with this player and he is just as good as the guys older than him. I think this is what killed our baseball team when i played in HS was because the coach thought they seniors should play when the younger talent was just as good or in our case better than the older guys. Like it was said earlier, coaches are out to win basketball games and keep their jobs not make parents happy. If we see a younger player is just as good or better than the older then we are taking our chances with the older player.
  3. shelbyville and oakland
  4. So your saying that Hamilton doesn't have the best chance in West Tn of bringing the trophy home? Only undefeated team left in the state of Tn, #12 in the nation and they don't have the best chance????
  5. I don't think ya'll can leave out Bartlett in this conversation. I think their as good as any team in AAA in west tennessee.
  6. Are those the only three teams in the district??? Do they play in region 7AAA?
  7. Ok, I thought the question was who has the best chance of knocking of BA and i answered that with ECS. Now if you paid any attention in the Boliver BA game you would have seen Chism didn't play a whole half. And then just recently in the BA Mitchell game Thad didn't gaurd Wright the entire game. Ecs has got two big kids that love to bang. You put both of them on Wright and bang the entire game it will wear him down. I just think that Ecs has the best chance. No i don't coach at Briarcrest but i did play for Harrington, I coach at Bartlett. Look at last years state championship if you saw it. BCHS played BA in the finals and Michael Ohr banged with Wright the entire game and yes Wright had a good game and won their third state title but was clearly worn out by the end of the game. Now you rotate two big guys in the game to bang with Wright and not only do you wear out Wright but you also keep your two big guys fresh.
  8. As much as Brentwood Academy is talked about on here i can't believe nobody has nominated Bone for prettiest 3 point shot. This kid can flat out shoot the rock.
  9. I just answered the question. I'm not taking anything away from BA. Yea they are the team in TN. I just was answering who had the best chance in private schools to beat them out of memphis and i think it is ECS. Now do i think they will beat them probably not but they have the best shot in my opinion. To tell you the truth after seeing brentwood play twice this year and playing them last year. I think any team will have problems gaurding Bone more than they will gaurding Wright. ECS has a big wide body down low that is going to bang with him a lot more than he's seen this year in my opinion, this guy doesn't give a crap. They are scrappy players that have the best chance in beating BA>
  10. I like this one because we've played all the teams talked about here beside Elliston. Looking at the teams here in Memphis my answer would be ECS. Christian Brothers beat ECS about a week or two ago by two points. When you look at ECS though they have good players and they are well coached. It helped them a bunch that they finally go to add their 6'7 transfer from BTW. He has turned this team around a lot. Their gaurd play is pretty good as well. They have guys that take care of the ball and don't try to do to much. I know Brentwood has both Wright brothers and bone but if you ask me I don't think their other gaurds are that great. Ecs could beat them if they played well. The BTW center is very good and then you add another big guy in their sophmore center, it would make for a tough gaurd for Brentwood. As for Harding count them out. They only have one player. Price had 35 of the teams 38 points once this season and won't be able to carry them very far. Briarcrest is playing well of late but is still very young playing 2 or 3 freshman. Coming out of memphis i see CBHS and ECS making it to state with ECS the best chance to beat Brentwood.
  11. As a high school coach we have camps for younger kids over the summer. For high school kids i think the best thing you can do besides spending 100's of dollars on camps is to just work on your own. Make out a program and follow it. My youngest brother is a Jr. this year and has improved so much from his So. year that it is unbelievable and he did it all working in the weight room and on the court all by himself.
  12. I see everyone talking about who is the MVP of so and so district or who is going to win this region or that one but it's more than just the games. I'm at Bartlett High school in Memphis and we have guys everywhere that support us whether we win or lose. The guys i'm talking about are not coaches or parents but they are the people that don't have to be there. The people i'm talking about at BHS is the KPTR group. They are there every night we play a game whether at Bartlett or it be Centralia Ill. The boys love it. They know that every night anyone with the internet can get on and listen to them play. I just wanted to give people a chance to say thank you to the people who don't get much credit for what they do but deserve a lot of it.
  13. I give RE much respect. I've been on the bench coaching both times we played them and both times we had a shot at beating them and turnovers cost us both times. I know that we have Bolton to play for the third time and it will be tough to get past them as well. But what i'm saying is that everyone in our district has played RE pretty close after two times around. Our district is catching up to them pretty quick just none of us have learned to close a game out. All i'm saying is there is a good chance that if RE catches someone from our district in Semis there is a good chance they can take RE out. As for the other district i know nothing about them. We played Munford and they are terrible. We saw JCM play at Dyer County Holiday tourney and they were athletic but couldn't handle pressure. I think it will be a District 14 AAA final in region and maybe without RE>
  14. if ya'll are talking about officials leaning toward another team during a game or not calling a game right then you can call head of officials and let them know that you don't what them doing your games anymore. The only problem is that you have to be the head coach to do this. They will write the guys name down and then make sure you don't get him at home games anymore.
  15. I know one thing RE is not as good as everyone makes them out to be and wouldn't be shocked if they got upset before the state. Hamilton i think will be there, but there are teams in Ridgeways district that can beat them in regionals to knock them out as well.
  16. is Middle college the same team that beat briarcrest and hung in with cbhs at the beginning of the year? if it's the same team they are pretty athletic.
  17. Ou812, We have parents show up and watch practice a bunch. I think it's important to let parents see what is going on in the program and then it lets them know exactly why "john" is playing more than "mike". They have brought their padded bleacher chairs and just sat there and watched. Letting them do this will let them see why their child isn't getting the playing time that they think they deserve. Yes there are times that we have closed practices but it's not very often. We don't let parents come to tryouts because we think it puts extra pressure on their child knowing that not only are the coaches evaluated me but my parents are also in the stands adding extra pressure but that's the only time they are not allowed. I'm talking in this situation about the parents that you never see watching practice and always complaining about their childs playing time.
  18. I'll go out on a limb and say RE and Ridgeway will not be there...
  19. i will say this.........we played Sycamore and yes Moulton can make 3's but it is far from pretty.
  20. what year is he and is he going has he decided where he will attend college?
  21. I think it is very hard to beat a good team 3 times in a row. We play Bolton our arch rival for the 3rd time this year in the opening round of the district tournament. We beat them by double digits both times but that doesn't mean anything. Tournament time is a new season and by the 3rd time they start figuring out what you do and adjust to your offensive and defensive game plans.
