We want to see the Rebels win. They should be able to compete. Yes, the coach has most to do with it. Hire Coach Paul Decker as the head coach and things would change but no, every coach that has been hired for the last many years....several, have come from out of state and far away. There are kids walking the hallways that can make the difference. Look at Gibson County, they have been the same for years and just can't get over the hump either. Now they are Single A and still can't compete. It has basically been that way for years at Obion. We all want to see the kids do well, after all, it is all about the kids...they work hard and in return gets blown away in most games. If you think back many years ago, locals were all coaches on the teams at Obion, now just about everyone except the boys basketball coach are from the outside. I just feel the parents and administration gets to far in the way of most of the coaches and many from the outside feel the same way. One other thing, drawing from 4 different middle schools ( k - 8 ) doesn't help either as some kids get left out and parents get ticked. Just take Henry Co for example. They have just 2 schools they draw from and they have 500 plus more kids in their high school than O C and they are on top of the football ladder each year, the rest of the sports they are just ok. Hang in there, be positive for the kids, every coach you hire is going to do the good sale pitch to be hired.

You really do not want to know. Union City is going to be good enough they could win the 1, 2 or even 3 a Championship. They are going to be that good. They have everyone basically back and have added one transfer who came from another state and is already getting D 1 attention as a sophomore.

It's pretty sad that Obion has no posters. A few years back when they actually won 8 games and made it to one round of the playoffs, lots of band wagon jump on's....since then...everyone must have jumped off the train. South Gibson by as many as they want. When a team like Dresden comes to your home turf and beats you as bad as they did ( and Dresden is really down ) there is no hope for the Rebels this year. Obion has one more chance at a possible win against the lone Ky team they play...other than that...a 1 - 9 season coming. So very sad a school that large, 4 A can't or couldn't even compete on the 1 A level.

Union City limits Huntingdon to a season low 167 total offensive yards.

It will get ugly 1 minute into the game. Union City scores 40 in first quarter......lots of sub play time once again which should be good for our young kids for next year.

I was REALLY impressed with Union City actually out conditioning Huntingdon in the second half when all of the talk has been about Union City NOT having a complete game as 1st stringers playing like Huntingdon has had. Huntingdon will be much better as their Q B is a sophomore and that #5 is a Junior. Lots to look forward to. The first half was like I thought it would be....the second half was also like I thought it would be. When Union City went up 21 - 7...Huntingdon was toast and they knew it. The f 5 Tornado came blowing through. Union City gets challenged once again with a little more speed in week #9 against Trenton and not again until round #3 or #4 in the playoffs. Union City is just that good folks......tons of leadership.....talent and kids who LOVE to play the game.

Surprised ? Kinda at the score of how many points Dresden scored but not the loss for O C.. O C just has trouble getting football going for some reason. Coaching, players, administration ? Not sure but a school as large as they are should be decent, especially when you play down to much smaller schools. It is obvious that Dresden came to play and O C continued just like they were against Dyersburg, they seem afraid.

Union City will be loaded to say the least this year and already talk of a Memphis/Union City final in the Class A Championship. To make things better for Union City, a transfer from another state who already has the attention of many of the top division 1 schools in mens NCAA basketball, has joined the Tornado squad and will give them even more of a chance to claim Gold ball #6. you will start to hear more and more about him and the already talented team he is joining.

If Dresden can stop Brice Warner, you stop the Rebels. If Dresden has any kind of speed at all, and has a decent line...the Lions should win. The Rebels will be lucky to win 3 games all year if that. The rent-a-win/paid win game with the Memphis team was a over blown, paid scrimmage game. They laid down big time against Dyersburg ( not as good as usual ) which Union City dominated in two quarters. I would like to see the Rebels get a much needed win but winning is something they have a hard time doing. Dresden by 2 T D's.

I have seen Union City play a couple of times so far and if something doesn't change, they have a team lacking in only one thing...to many yellow flags and that isn't to bad either. Union City has the following: A run game with several who can run, the smartest Q B in ALL of west Tennessee, a special teams that many coaches dream for, a line that is as fast and big at he same time as any, a defense that will smother you and also...yes, a passing attack which they have not had to use. Now, if Huntingdon can stop all of those, they may just win . The only thing that is going to hurt Union City is Union City. This will be a game for sure and our kids will be on the field longer for this game than any game to date playing wise for starters. It is going to be cooler so that will be a advantage for both teams. Good luck to both but Union City just has to much for anyone on their regular season schedule.

Hey, hey,....hang on for a minute. Union City DOMINATED the NCS team like no other team dominated you all year other than maybe a 4 or 5 a school out of Nashville. Yes, we did LET NCS back in the game but ran over you, through you and around you ALL Night long. We now have at last 8 guys who can run or carry the football.....so hope it gets that far....and if so...you will be coming to our place this time.

What I said was nothing I thought of trash talking. Yes, Union City has a good team but some "quotes" made by some people come across to "other people" the wrong way. If it came across wrong, I'm sorry but this board is full of trash talking much more than what I posted. I have GREAT confidence in my team as many do, just so happens we have a situations many teams and fans would dream of. Some people just do not like anything about Union City or what is said about them in a positive way. For the others on here, thank you for reading between the lines. Union City has to stay healthy and things go their way to have the magical season we all want to see happen. Til then, Lake County will come to play I'm sure but by the end of the game could end of on the ugly side of the scoreboard.

Trenton will be the toughest game, then the Huntingdon Game. Lake County will be NO game at all. U C by 40 plus.

Gibson County is going in the right direction I truly believe. It is ALL about having the right, coachable kids out on the field everyday. It doesn't come easy. It takes a kid willing to take the hits, the heat and the time to make the difference. I know the coach pretty well and he has the fire to get things going. Last night, as Gibson Co. started their season, it comes hard opening your season up against the defending state champs and one who just might repeat again. Actually, Union City is better this year than last years team. They could have folded their season last year after the first game getting beat at home by McKenzie....with 9 fumbles. Please look at it this way......and this is the 100% truth, if the Union City Girls Basketball Program can go from the door mat off all teams in west Tennessee to winning a Silver Basketball in 2012-13 season and a GOLD ball in 2013-14 season and being 37 - 0...UNDEFEATED, Gibson Count Football can have a winning program in football. It takes the right coaches and players. That is a chemistry. Never give up, your day will come. I know Gibson County has lost students over the years to other area schools but so has Union City. Just look at Obion County Central football, they are the same every year and never get over the hump. They win 2 or 3...loose 6 or 7, maybe a first round playoff and done. They have 1000 kids in their school...they should have the team it takes to be 500 year in and year out but they don't. Coach Bowling at Union City would rather have 25 kids on his team that will give their hearts rather than 50 on the team with just 25 working because the other 25 hurt you best 25. Hang in there Gibson County. Your stadium is nice...the games will come...just walk the halls....tell the kids who aren't playing....WE NEED YOU, your SCHOOL needs you. Good Luck.

Not trash talking ...... Do not know anything about JCM but know Dyersburg was outplayed by a single A School last Friday night on their home turf. Union City didn't even dress 4 of their top starters....Henry, Jernigan, Cook and Clendenin. The folks I talk to that did go said either Union City is that good or Dyersburg is that weak. Don't get me wrong, Union City would beat a very high percentage of the teams in Classes 1A, 2A, some 3A and 4A teams. Union City is loaded with skill. Dyersburg lost some from last year we know. They did say Union City line pushed Dyersburg's line all over the field. Good luck this season and they did say Nice stadium facilities.

Obion will be very lucky to win 3 games all year. Lake County is down a lot compared to most Lake County teams in the past. The stangs by 4 T D's, if not more.

The final was 21 - 7 according to Jackson Sun and a buddy of mine who was there. Union City had some main starters not even dressed and will not dress them against Gibson County either.

Didn't get to make the game tonight but was texted during the game basically play by play. Union City had 4 starters out.... Their main running back, their best lineman, their kicker/safety and another linebacker. And from what they said, Union City vs. Crocket would have been a great game if Union City had been at full speed. They also told me Union City would have beaten Dyersburg as bad as they wanted in a full game and spanked them just in 2 quarter with ball control.

Union City will not show anything either but will come to play. There will be at least 3 starters not playing so just a dress rehearsal and some plays to run. Should be a fun night with the three games.

Not even going to make much of a comment other than there are 13 games to be played between now and then and so much to even think about. BUT........I F.....if this happens and NCS and Union City has a rematch to see who plays from the west end of the state....it will be played in Union City as the bracket flip flops every year. Good luck for both teams and I just hope our Purple and Gold team is still in the hunt. Union City is LOADED to say the least and have added a few new extra kids who have transferred in and will step up and play. Should be fun. You gave Union City a very good end of the game last year and almost won before Union City TOTALLY domintated in all aspects of the game. Until you can stop a power, run straight at you type football, it will be hard to repeat and beat Union City again with everyone back. Now Union City will have a excellent passing game to go with it.....we shall see.

Thanks for the kind words towards the U C fans. We do our part of the trash talking....just like many on here. But, we earned everything we have...just like anyone else. There are many who will never respect Union City. We win, we still get little respect. I want to invite each of you....fans of high school sports and the few haters of Union City to drive to our community...drive to our school...see what our facilities are like and then walk in the school. See the case after case of GOLD and Silver Footballs and Basketball....the tons of regional and district championships.....that are displayed in our entrance into the school. We are Proud in Union City. How many schools can say...single or 6 A that they had a boys AND a girls basketball team go 37-0 to win a state championship.....very, very few. We like to brag yes....but we like our pride. So as the season goes on...it may sound like trash talking....but PRIDE is the word we use. NO EXCUSE is what we say in Union City. Folks...our community is small...we are recovering from a Goodyear factory that we lost 3000 jobs about 3 yrs ago. yes....it is much better today but our coaches...players...administration....help pull our kids together...our community together and help heal what we lost. Not going on a soap box but WE HAVE P R I D E !!!!!! And you won't ever take that away. I am looking forward to this season...should be fun but those years like last year are very very special. I along with others here are ready for the Friday night lights to be turned on....and then we move into basketball...as our boys should do well and could win the state.....we are loaded there also.
