Humboldt plays very well together. A really good team. Union City continues to have injuries to starters. But, Stewart and Polk can carry the team on their shoulders. I would take a win against Humboldt Saturday but the most important is to play them in the Regional finals and send them to Memphis. Stewart is by far the best player in District with Polk from Union City a top district / Regional player also. Trenton is getting better each game. Halls is done.

Weddle will be back Friday. He is not out for the season. Also, win or loose, Union City has played in two different National events over Thanksgiving and Christmas as Humboldt did at Poplar Bluff. The caliber players you play in those tournaments prepare you in games like the Humboldt / Union City game. Both have already played against teams as good as any state champion Tennessee will serve up this year or any year. Both teams are well prepared for the second half of the season in 2017.

Something many or most don't know, Union City will be adding two players back to the roster just after the Christmas break who have been on grade suspension. They have not dressed nor practiced with the team all season. One is a returning starter from last year who was they playmaker on the floor and can rebound with anyone. He is a senior, will more than likely not start but will play a lot and make a difference coming in off the bench and another player, which is a junior and played a lot last year, who came off the bench last year and can run the court well. Once and if the chemistry jells, Union City should be a team that will give anyone a run for their money come tournament time and should go very deep into the playoffs.

Gotta go with the West boys, Dresden that is. Greenback has NOT played against a Winn, Yates or McDonald player i'm sure and they will see them up close for the first time next Friday morning around 10:30 during warmups and real close starting at 11 am. Go Lions, Bring more GOLD back to the west and our region. Dresden's defense has gotten better each game and they are healthy and peaking at the right time.

Man....that koolaid is some strong stuff. It's obvious you never saw Union City's teams in very recent years of both 2013 and 2014. NO one could move the ball on their D. Wayne County, NCS, Dresden, Trenton, nobody. Look up the tapes on hudl. Every senior on 2014 signed a college scholarship but one, maybe two and had 12. Just watch how you put things. Many have already mentioned U C and their not even fans. Dresden weak point is defense. Their only challenge all year was Union City and the moved the ball as much as 400 yards. That's not a good defense.

South Fulton is very weak. Union City has played Westview which is not alot better in some way but did beat Liberty as did U C. U C lead Westview at one point 50 points. We have lots more than just Parker Stewart....trust me.

Most of us in the west are pulling for the Dresden Lions. Two games from possibly holding your first ever GOLD football. The pressure is really on Dresden. Being ranked #1 most of the year, undefeated, former Mr. Football is Q B and D 1 prospect in both baseball and football. Union City has been in this spot several times, came away with Gold and Silver. This game means a trophy, something to show off your year. You loose, no one remembers, you win, your in the championship game and will claim some type of hardware for your trophy case. The only thing is, can Dresden' defense keep Wayne County from scoring as often as Dresden might score OR, can Wayne County slow down Dresden. DEFENSE wins championships. Like I said earlier in this post section, the team with the least amount of turnovers and yellow flags will win this game. I really feel this will all fall on who's defense is the strongest and who can cause some turnovers. Dresden can score quick, that is for sure. What about Wayne County, I'm sure they can as well. Like I said, Dresden has ALL of the pressure on them. They want Gold, a loss Friday is a failure for the season in my book. Dresden is well coached buy Wayne County will have the better coach on the field. He has been there and done that....won Gold, been in this situation before, just beat a very talented NCS team, has a Mr. Football to be that can do it all on offense and defense. I'm going early, will be there and wearing Gold. Dresden, it's your chance, you get it now or the chance may go for years to come. Play your game, use the home field at your advantage, weather going to be just right...can you beat Wayne County and Pressure, if so, your team will move on to Cookeville.

My only statement, when you get this far into the playoffs, any of the 4 teams can win. I like Dresden since they are local. They do have a great runner in yates and winn at q b but their defense can be run on. Should be a dandy. This year, the 4 teams left are all good enough to win the Gold Ball. It comes down to turnovers in the game and mistakes. The team with the fewest will walk off the field with a "W" at the end of the night. Prayers for safe travels and a clean, healthy football game.

Lert me chime in. Since I travel for my job in most of the middle and middle west of the state of Tennessee and have not been able to make any post much this football season, I have seen Dresden twice, Wayne County twice and Union City 3 times. Wayne County will be a tough pill for either team to swallow. The reason I feel Dresden will not either make the finals or win the final game? They have not played a full 4 quarter game yet and have not really been challenged. Union City moved the ball on them but just fumbled and had balls stripped all night. Union City can beat Dresden, no mercy rule this time people. As for Wayne County, tough, real tough, so is Dresden but Wayne County has had a couple games of full game playing with starters. Is Dresden battle tested, time will tell but I say no. It all starts this week. Union City will come in basically playing all Juniors, sophomores and even some freshmen and ( one ) 1 senior who is not hurt. Don't get me wrong, Dresden is good. From here on out it will be tough and should be. NCS is good also but depends on which team shows up. South Pitt is a good team this season and almost back to their days of old. We will see. Starts this week the season does. One thing about Union City, they have coaches that have been there and done that. Their players buy in and believe they will win. Rain is in the forecast, windy conditions so this will play right into Union City's hands with ground control and clock control.

Wasn't able to attend as I was out of town on business. Had couple folks who were live video feeding game to me and texting info. U C has lots of work and experience gaining to do in the secondary before the Dresden game or it will be lights out by possibly end of 3rd quarter. U C is going to need to be healthy to have a chance. Dresden will throw at will all night as I have seen them play. Conditioning could become a factor in favor of Union City if they can stay close late. Dresden has yet to be tested, players / starters yet to play full game in 100 percent mode. U C has had two tough games....Humboldt and Trenton.

I've now seen both play, Trenton will beat Dresden by 10 points and give Dresden their loss #1 so far. Trenton has a big, strong line and a balanced offense.

Trenton cuts their penalties down, Trenton wins by at least 3 T D's or 4. Trenton has a solid passing and running game.

I could see Union City pushing the pedal all the way down on the turf and not letting up. Hope I am able to attend the game.

Hey there trojanfan....I would watch how you comment because we thumped and could still thump your black and gold up and down the fake grass field day in and day out. You folks can't event dominate the smallest class in Tennessee much less the classification your team is in. I wouldn't say anything else. Your boys and fans saw to many back sides of the Purple and Gold in the last few years so you ended that game. Best wishes....

I agree BigSwo. They let one player stay around just to try and get their hands on Gold and it backfired and got taken to the woodshed by NCS, a team Union City has not lost to. And yes, TT, you should have respect for a program like Union City and Coach Bowling because we do it right and will not stand for anything to disrespect any other school. Your coach and your school administration lost a lot of respect last year for allowing the season go like it did keeping troubled players around. Ended up, didn't do any good. That's all for this subject I have and will have. We have a season to start and are champions ourselves and will be until someone else knocks our Purple and Gold from the top.

T T ...Westview is down, in a mighty big way. One main factor for Cody leaving is his talent level has dropped at the View. I was told with close connections to the school and member of their program 2 wins, 3 at best. They are short on talent, players, strength and depth. No one is sleeping on Trenton. Trenton we all know will be solid. The top three teams will be U C, Dresden and Trenton. U C has lots and lots of room for improvement. They are just now starting to play all players. Two starters have been out due to injury that will factor in. Even with U C moving up to 2A next year, they will basically dominate all aspects of the game either way in the western part of the state and could very well claim GOLD back to Back in two different classifications. I did say "could" so don't throw that out of wack on the statement. Union City, Dresden are the two teams to defeat to move on towards Cookeville way. Dresden will be very tough at their place. Union City and Dresden are going to be the top two teams and above everyone else. Dresden skill players are all back and will be a very tough team to beat. Union City on the other hand are going to be a handfull as well with tons of size, speed, throwing ability and kicking. The next two years Union City will be and have a chance to be like the 2013 and 2014 teams. Should be a fun season for some.

So GLAD you NCS folks FINALLY got what you wanted....a "recruited" Championship Ring. But, you were stopped the last three years, two of those by a small public school called Union City. I still believe both NCS AND CPA need to be playing in the private school side. It is really hard to play against team that recruit so hard like NCS. I wonder what the ACT scores are on the team as a whole ? Oh well, enjoy your win, you recruited the ring...just remember.

Well, the NCS folks should be proud. Going to the state finals "finally" ! And should win. As for Trenton, after their troubled season, they were able to get things pushed aside to continue playing and with players who for some reason like to cause and disturb the team chemistry. They did play better football in the playoffs. Not surprised at all at the outcome of this game. Union City was able to claim two Gold football by getting past NCS both at their place and at Union City. You would seem that Trenton, moving down to 1 A after winning the 2 A championship should have walked right on to Cookeville but not the case. Kinda proves that Class A is a much tougher road to the Gold. A good season for sure at 11 and 3. NCS does play and represent their school well and I wish them all the best.

Excuse me, I was one win off sir. Where was your team ? WE did make it to the championship game if I recall. At least we make it back to Union City with Silver and is better than nothing at all! We will compete this year. We are very young.

Understand. I have taken a different approach to my postings. We both have tough roads to get to next week. I hope it happens. It is usually better to play a team once than twice in my book. Trenton will be tough. Carver will be tough. NCS will be tough on Huntingdon and Wayne Co. will move on. No matter what happens, I will be very sure that a GOLD football will travel back west of the Tennessee River come early December. You never know. Trenton, Dresden, Union City all have the chance but only one can move on.

I have been a good person on here all year but this above statement has changed my mind. First...still not going to trash talk but tell the truth. "yoso"....I sure wish you will travel to Memphis Friday and see a air show and I ain't talkin' about the FedEx planes landing at the Memphis International Airport. My friend....you are about to take on a school that is in a much larger place...has been a MUCH larger school than us both to say it lightly. I have already been told the scouting report on their Q B...simply will show your Q B in Wynn how to throw the football. Not sure if their defense is near as fast as Union City but any team that can score over 70 points on anyone is worth a look. I was told this will be a toss up and slight edge to Carver. PLEASE, PLEASE don't mention enrollment numbers. Union City has beaten Dresden or would beat Dresden with 100 kids in the school or 1000. Just take it like a man that your team continues to get beaten year after year by a better team, better coaching staff and better school. Sorry, you brought this on my friend. You are very lucky Big SWO didn't throw you over the top rope. This is NOT a U C thread but I do search around and read. My only post here on this because I could care less who wins your game.

Not surprised at this W for Wayne County. Not taking anything away from the Stangs, Wayne County tradition continues and Huntingdon I feel even though undefeated coming into this game lost one of two starting Q B's. Look for these two to hook up again in round 3.

Time to move on but will end with this TRUE statement. Union City in the last 25 years in the most successful high school "sports" program West of Nashville and North of Memphis with the amount of district, regional and state championships in all sports combined, 1 A or 6A.
