  1. From District 7 with Siegal, Blackman,Riverdale, Oakland to District 6 with, ahem, less than stellar competition. What kind of contacts does Cookeville have with the tssaa? Regional tourney, here we come!
  2. MJ--Solid rankings....but being from Knoxville, I think you are under-estimating Bearden. We'll see this week with the match against #4 Soddy-Daisy. Also, Powell from #21 to #20 after losing to South-Doyle, 2-0??? At least, that's what the Knoxville paper reported. Haven't seen the score posted on here or Eurosports...perhaps transam can shed some light on that one. Thanks for giving us fans and parents something to talk about!
  3. RE private school salaries...one thing that needs to be factored in is the reduced/no tuition for coaches/teachers children to attend the private school. If a parent wants a private school education for their children, this is a substantial "income" factor. For example, a coach at a private school with 3 children going tuition free is probably saving upwards of $20K+ in tuition expense. Throw the tax benefit in and you can see the benefit that incurs is substantial---may not be income in the form of salary but is in fact "income" in the long run. RE CAK and undefeated season. In looking at score comparisons on Eurosport between CAK and Maryville and common opponents, it appears that a much tougher test for CAK will be Collierville. I have seen CAK play a match and they are for real.
  4. * Catholic falls a bit short in championship match vs CCS, 0-2. CCS strong-goals on PK and corner. Congrats CCS. * Maryville ahead of Shelbyville, 3-0, early in second half in the finals of the other bracket--heard Shelbyville scored late goal and final was 3-1. * Some fisticuffs in Mcminn-Anderson County match. Anyone have details? * If you have a chance to see Livingstone's midfielder Kat Nigro play, don't pass it up. She is the real deal. * Well run tournament.
  5. Friday Games Blue Division Signal Mtn vs Shelbyville Boyd Buchanan vs Livingston Academy Silverdale Academy vs Maryville Tennessee High vs Powell Gold Division Coffee County vs CCS Tullahoma vs East Hamilton Knox Catholic vs McMinn Central Science Hill vs Anderson County Absence this year of teams such as Notre Dame, FRA and Bearden. Prediction: Blue--Shelbyville vs Powell (Shelbyville) Gold--CCS vs Catholic (Catholic in an upset on CCS turf)
  6. I think transam is under the impression that West won, 3-0 or has reading comprehension issues. Reality check, transam, final was Sevier County 1, West 1. Not only did the Bears "hold it close", they earned a draw. Congrats to Sevier County--I have seen them play and they have a tough defense and a very good GK. They will be a force to be reckoned with in their district.
  7. How is Brandon Tarr doing at Memphis? I heard he transferred there from South Carolina.
  8. Knoxville Area Monday--Bearden vs Maryville Tuesday--Powell vs West Wednesday--Bearden vs CAK
  9. Very good coverage! Thanks to KNS for giving the girls some press. The top ten was close to being right on target based on how I would rate the teams....I would flip Bearden and Oak Ridge at the top and Hardin Valley and Webb at the bottom. KNS Top Ten 1. Oak Ridge 2. Bearden 3. Farragut 4. CAK 5. West 6. Maryville 7. Catholic 8. Greeneville 9. Webb 10. Hardin Valley Others to watch: Powell, Karns, Seymour, Lenoir City, Sevier County, Halls.
  10. No way to please all.
  11. Brutal schedule! Should prepare you for a good run at CAK and Notre Dame. Does Greeneville have a lot of returning players from last year?
  12. Perhaps Seymour losses to the other AAA teams they played--Maryville 0-4, Powell 1-4, West 0-4, Sevier County 1-2 and spankings by CAK 0-7 and Briarcrest 1-10--could be impacting his thoughts.
  13. I have no dog in this fight but some of the spin in this saga is mind-boggling. "If the TSSAA choses to investigate"--Why wouldn't they? The video clip shows a blatant rules violation. "they will sanction this situation only if there is proof"--What more proof is needed? Are you buying into the post that the coach is talking about his fishing trip? This statement is somewhat analagous to a wife/husband suspected of an illicit relationship being caught on film going into a motel room with someone not their spouse. Maybe they are going in to make some pb and j sandwiches but 99.99% probability that some clothes are being shed behind closed doors. "the film maker will admit making this film"--Wow. Let's say I am coaching a practice that some one is filming and I hit one of my players. Film is shown to AD. AD refuses to do anything until person video-taping practice "admits" he was filming. The person who needs to be "admitting" wrong-doing is the coach. The camera and the person filming are not the guilty parties.
  14. Classic video!! Especially the ball-boy "coach". Don't know about this happening with basketball in east Tennessee but it does happen with baseball. The "punishment" is something like this: TSSAA-AD, your coach has been reported working with your team out of season. HS AD-Ok, we'll take care of it but he probably just happened to be at the field doing some field maintenance. TSSAA-Hey, thanks, see you at spring fling.
  15. Can you shed some light on why Tarr transferred? Lack of playing time, bad fit, one set of standards for all, disagreement with coach? From an outside observer who saw Tarr compete in club and HS, this really is not a suprising turn of events. Hopefully, he will eventually mature, be team oriented and be a success. Maybe Memphis is the place.
  16. Not Ned, but it was a 1-1 match. Perhaps Bearden was looking ahead to Thursday and Farragut. Bearden had the edge at least three good looks in the first half. Maryville settled down midway through the second half, possessed the ball and had two or three good scoring opportunities. Interesting match especially if the rumor I heard regarding Maryville playing a basketball player in goal because their keeper was injured is true. He stayed on his line a bit much but didn't play like a rookie to me. Maybe Ned can give us some info on that.
  17. Bearden 6 Webb 0 according to KNS this morning.
  18. If they are not practicing I would say they would be rusty. No offense to Lenoir City, but Bearden had to have an off night. Back to back years for Bearden to have an "off night" against LC.....the 2008 result was 2-2. Maybe you should give a little credit to LC players and coaches. Fluke, off night// good excuse for one match but back to back ties should earn the LC boys a bit of respect.
  19. Re Scalfe the Elder...he's always good for a couple + calls a match where you wonder "what in the world is that all about". Pretty much evens up for both sides though. And when he is center, you are guaranteed at least one Napolean complex moment. Scalfe the Younger is rock solid--happy to see him pull up for the game.
  20. If the other kid is playing QB, then what can expected? Is he a "drop back" passer, an "on the run" passer, or neither?
  21. Do you think Seymour can hang with CAK tonight on their near regulation size field? I'm thinking it could be another public school sacrificial lamb romp for the Warriors. Regardless, you will move on and have a good shot at making state with a win over Chuckey Doak or whoever they play tonight. Congrats on the win over Catholic and good luck with the rest of the season.
  22. So it appears that the Powell coach who was the subject of some earlier discontent managed to do a pretty good job this year. Congrats to Powell. With the exception of Bearden who appear to be on another level, it appears Knox area public school soccer is getting much more competitive. Oak Ridge, Farragut and West are just behind the Dawgs but below that, things appear to be tightening up.
  23. Bearden beats Lenoir City Farragut 1 Maryville 0 http://www.thedailytimes.com/article/20081...29995/-1/sports Farragut at Bearden, Thursday @7.
  24. Greeneville has a good feeder/club program, good HS coaching and a tradition of solid soccer. They will provide some great public school competition to the private schools who dominate this division.
