  1. I'm going to miss interacting with Bill on the show on Fridays. He was in fine form this past Friday night, and did an excellent job as always. The Trenton/Lake Co. game ran long, and he was our last caller of the night before we signed off at 11. He was everything that you could ask for when it came to game updates - knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and most importantly, entertaining. This Friday won't be the same without him calling in updates for the Milan/Hunt. game.

    Anybody seen an OTB yet?
  3. Dead on. I like the idea of a wild card, but giving Milan - the champions of the second toughest 2A region in the state, the toughest path from that quadrant to the semis flies in the face of logic. I think that region champs, wild cards, etc... should be thrown out the window once the playoffs start. Use that to determine who gets in, then place the teams geographically just like they are doing, but once you get to the point of seeding each quadrant, use some type of performance measurement to seed it. Use Earl Nall, Massey, whatever, but use something to seed it based on the overall strength of the teams. JCS 7-3 is the best wild card in the state based on overall record, and Milan has to face them in the first round, while Huntingdon gets Westwood and Carver and Booker T. play each other. If you went off some type of performance ranking, the three Region 9 schools would be playing somebody from Region 8 or Huntingdon, with only one game potentially matching up teams from the same region. The overall concept is good, but the system needs to be tweaked.
  4. Half the bracket is first round games between teams from the same Region. Region 2 - Sweetwater/Alcoa 10/19 Alcoa won 42-15 Region 2 - CAK/Louden 9/7 CAK won 38-21 Region 1 - Cumberland Gap/Happy Valley 10/5 CG won 44-14 Region 6 - Lewis County/Richland 9/7 Lewis County won 35-7 Region 5 - Goodpasture/CPA 11/2 Goodpasture won 43-32 Region 8 - Milan/JCS 10/12 Milan won 14/13 Region 8 - Westview/Peabody 9/21 Westview won 48-13 Region 9 - Carver/Booker T. 10/26 Carver won 30-6

  6. Guessing it was because of Geography/proximity. Madison is close to Donelson, but Donelson appears to be slightly (under 10 miles) further East. In the West, it's easy to get that confused since both are so close to Nashville. Official word will come from the TSSAA later tonight or tomorrow morning.
  7. Crockett lost tonight, so the five wild cards appear to be Rockwood, Richland, Jackson Christian, all with six or more wins. Then Sweetwater and Marion Co, at 5-5, but they are the only 5-5 teams with a win over a .500 team or better. Just a matter now of how they seed the teams. Chance goodpasture goes East, depending on how they set up the teams. Will be interesting to see.
  8. Congratulations to Gleason on an outstanding season. A winnable game for them next week at Fayette Academy. According to the TSSAA, it's Gleason's sixth playoff appearance in football, still looking for a first round win. Good luck to them next week.
  9. Yep. Gleason and UC is the game that will have the most impact in tgat region. I've put together a spreadsheet that shows all the playoff possibilities for West TN. It's been sent in to coach T and should be posted on our website www.965wbfg.com today or tomorrow. If you think 7-1a is bad, you need to check out the 2a wild card standings - it's all on that sheet as well. Looks like at least two teams at 5 - 5 are getting in as wild cards, and there will be several tiebreakers to determine who it is. Fun stuff. Yep. 10. Update: If you hit the site now, there's a PDF for download named "Playoff Possibilities". That's our projections before week nine action. The old file includes a column "week nine opponent" for each team. The new file, when posted, will not have that column, and the file is about twice as large. Thanks.
  11. Playoff projections for Regions 7-1A, 8-1A, 5-3A, 6-3A, 7-3A, 8-3A, 7-4A, 8-4A, and all of Class 2A have been completed and should be uploaded to our website www.965wbfg.com within the next 24 hours or so. The wild card certainly adds a lot of excitement (and many more week 10 scenarios) to Class 2A. Our projections include wild card locks, and wild card bubble team information, including up to date information for: 1. Each wild card bubble team's wins against .500 teams, along with information regarding which bubble team may be able to add another win in this category as a result of week ten action. 2. Opponent's total number of wins (including week ten opponents) for each wild card bubble team. This information is current through week nine. 3. Opponent's total number of losses (including week ten opponents) for each wild card bubble team. This information is current through week nine. It looks like at least two, if not three 2A teams that finish 5-5 are going to get in as wild cards. Enjoy the free download when the scenarios are posted to the site.
  12. Put this together tonight after the games. Could be wrong, haven't rechecked it yet. If Bruceton wins: 1. Bruceton is second. 2. UC wins, then they are third, and winner Greenfield/Lake is fourth. 3. UC loses, and Lake beats Greenfield, all three are 4-3 in Region. But Gleason will finish third based on 7-3 overall record, UC is fourth based on their win over Lake County 4. UC loses, and Greenfield beats Lake, all three are 4-3 in Region. But Gleason will finish third based on 7-3 overall record, UC is fourth based on their win over Greenfield. If Bruceton loses: 1. Union City is second with a win, and Bruceton is third, winner Greenfield/Lake is fourth. 2. If UC loses, and Lake beats Greenfield, then Bruceton, UC, Lake, and Gleason are all 4-3 in Region. Gleason is 7-3 overall and would be second based on their record. Bruceton, UC, and Lake are all 6-4 overall, but both Bruceton and UC have defeated Lake. Lake should be eliminated with Bruceton finishing third, and UC finishing fourth. 3. If UC loses, and Greenfield beats Lake, then Bruceton, UC, Lake, and Gleason are all 4-3 in Region. Gleason is 7-3 overall and would be second based on their record. Bruceton and Union City have both defeated Greenfield. Greenfield is eliminated by this tiebreaker; additionally they would be 5-5 overall compared to 6-4 for Bruceton and UC. Bruceton third, UC fourth. Again, could be wrong, but I think it's close to what the TSSAA will release in a few days.
  13. Here's what I saw. USJ and Liberty. Neither team looked good, but USJ had more success moving the ball than Liberty did. I don't think Liberty got a first down until there were about five minutes left in the second period. Liberty has installed the spread, but very few pass plays were called. In the first period, seemed like more of their runs lost yards than gained yards. But, since Liberty just installed a new coach and a new system, it's not unrealistic to think they may get things worked out during the season. TCA and Trenton. Both teams looked good. Harper has got moves at QB. Wow. Amazing juke moves when he's running with the ball. Trenton scored their TD on a nice pass from Harper to the corner of the end zone from around the 20 on 4th down. Missed XP kept this from being tied. And there was a lot of confusion on the fumble that TCA scooped up and appeared to take in the end zone. Looked like it should've been a TD from where I was sitting, but I was on the home side and the fumble happened on the visiting sideline, so I didn't have a great view. TCA scored their TD on a nice run up the middle by Crenshaw, I think. Milan and JCM. The fastest, hardest-hitting contest of the night. Milan was the fastest team on the field. Will be interesting to see how long Hanson is out. On the play that he was injured, JCM put the hit of the night on a Milan player in front of the home stands. Was watching that hit, so I didn't see how Hanson got hurt in the middle of the field. Based on watching Milan, they will be the class of that Region. Southside and Humboldt. Southside looked good, especially given the players they lost from last year. Humboldt was driving and SS picked off a pass around the 10, then drove down the field for a TD by running the ball well. Humboldt scored their TD on a tipped ball by SS to the Humboldt WR. I thought both teams looked good. JCS and Northside. JCS was wobbly early, fumbling on their first play, giving up a TD to NS, then getting called for holding on the first play of their next possession. But after that, wow. For those who think that JCS is headed to a 2-8, 3-7, 4-6 type season in 2A this year, forget about it (barring injuries to key players). They are very good, and will contend for a playoff spot in that region. Matt Hudson is the best pocket passer I've seen in recent years. As the bored guy said, the Hudson to Perkins pass for the first score was the offensive play of the night. It was a D-I type pass, nice tight spiral put where his WR, and only his WR could catch the ball. The kind of pass you don't see that often in HS football. The kid has got a big time arm, and seems to have big-time head for reading the defense as well.
  14. Watched them play TCA in the jamboree. Harper is quick at QB, very elusive with some nice looking juke moves when he runs with ball. Think that they'll finish second behind Milan in that Region. Milan was in the same jamboree against JCM and they've got so much speed it's not even funny. Milan looked great.
  15. A bit bitter, are we? There are a lot of threads on the board from public school supporters advocating private schools be forced out of the TSSAA or otherwise segregated from public schools. As a point of reference, where are the threads from private school supporters advocating that they want to be separated from public schools? Can't say that they don't have a recent argument if winning is what we're measuring. In 2005, the first year of the multiplier, there were no private school champions in DI. Only two privates (Goodpasture, Lipscomb) made it to Murfreesboro. All public 1A final. Sounds like the multiplier did what it was supposed to do last year. This year you've got two privates in the 1A game, and one in the 2A and 3A game, so the system that suposedly worked in 2005 didn't work in 2006? My two cents is that the only way you'll get rid of the privates is if the privates decide to leave. Based on the lack of private schools support for this option right now, I don't think that's happening anytime soon. Until then, it is what it is. Make the best of it and move on.
  16. If he (and the defense) play Friday like they did last night, I think JCS will win.
  17. Jaxman, The Bored Guy posted this in another thread, but I'll echo his comments here as well. He and I saw JCS in week one against USJ. Haven't seen a JCS game since then. The JCS team we watched last night has improved so much since week one that they were almost unrecognizable as being the same team. Amazing how much better they are now, compared to the start of the season, esp. Clay Fowler. At times against USJ, I thought Fowler looked lost on the field, he took several sacks instead of throwing the ball away, and looked shaky under pressure. But last night...wow, not even the same QB at all. Much, much better, throwing, scrambling, everything. Congrats to the kids and the coaches. Enjoy the trip to Murfreesboro.
  18. JCS fought through the adversity well. Great crowd there last night as well. The whole game I thought was conducted with class, both on the MP side as well as the JCS side.
  19. Even so, he didn't get 200+ like he has in some games. The plan to contain him was excellent!
  20. Lot of credit to the kids and the coaches after what happened in the Southside game. Up 7-0, then give up 55 unanswered to SS. Amazing what the coaches have been able to do since that loss, and how well the kids have been able to execute on the field. I'm as guilty as any in writing off JCS. Thought they had no shot at all against the balanced attack of McKenzie; thought they would struggle against Lake Co, but after watching the game last night, I think they've got a legitimate chance against FCS next Friday. Hope they wrap up thier time in A ball with a gold ball.
  21. He definately has some amazing moves on the field. As shifty as any I've seen.
  22. Spot on analysis. People mention "private schools" as being the same, yet a private school in a metro area and a private school in any other community are apples to oranges different. In resources, potential student pool, etc...
  23. I'm not affliated with any school. You're right in the # of privates in the playoffs, but there are also public schools (Alcoa, Maryville, among others) who dominate as well. I do find it interesting that people keep changing how teams are classified though, in an apparent effort to keep privates out of division I championshps. DII was created b/c publics got tired of competing against Brentwood Academy, etc... But private schools kept winning, so then the multiplier rule went into effect. Yet private schools kept winning. So now you think something else needs to happen? At this point, it's either jack the multipler through the roof, or evict all privates from the current system and create a "public" division. Can't really see how that's fair. Still doesn't address magnet schools or open-zone county schools, in regards to how the level playing field just among public schools isn't really all that level.
