All Academic Team

Middle Tennessee High School Softball Coaches Association

Below you will see the results of MTSCA 2005 All Academic Team. Athletes selected on the team had to make 3 criteria.

1 Culmative grade point average must be 3.75+

2 Must be a junior or senior

3 Softball coach must be a member of MTSCA

We want to commend each of these student/athletes for their efforts in the classroom and on the athletic field. The balance between academics and athletics can be precarious at best. To maintain a 3.75 gpa and spend countless hours on the practice field is a tremendous acomplishment. Way to go girls! You will receive a plaque donated by Nashville Sporting Goods to be given out at our North/South All Star game. MTSCA wants all girls to realize that sports are an important part of the total academic/ high school experience, but good grades are the way of the future. We challenge all student athletes to be the best they can be in their studies and softball.

I notice that there are several teams that are not listed as having players receiving this award. Is it the fact that the coaches of these teams have not nominated anyone or that the coaches are not a member of this association? Are all high school coaches a member of this? I am curious because I know for a fact that we have at least two players at our school that would qualify for this. It would be a shame for these student athletes not to be awarded something such as this because the coaches are not knowledgeable of it. Is it too late for others to be added?

1st of all, your coach has to be a member of the MTSCA...if he/she isn't, then the players arent eligible. If he/she is a member, it could be the coach didnt nominate them. The rules for being elibible are listed at the top.

First, the coaches do have to be a member of the MTSCA, it's only $25 per year. Secondly, if they are members, they have to send in the names of girls who have a 3.75 or better grade point average, this had to be done back in March. All Middle Tennessee softball coaches have had the opportunity to join this great organization for the past 2 years, it's a shame they don't because they miss out on a lot of good benefits for the girls. The All-Academic team, the MTSCA scholarships, and the All-Star game that will be played in July to name a few. Parents and players if your coach is not a member, try to convience them to become one next year. Congrats to all the girls on this years All Academic Team.

Do you make allowances for weighted vs nonweighted GPA's?

Yes, all Middle Tn. high school coaches were asked to join our association this year and last year as well. If a coach was a member last year we email them and remind them that they need to register again this year. We also had coaches at all of the TSSAA rules meeting in Middle Tn. and handed out registration forms to become a member. We put messages on Coacht, we passed out information at district meetings of the schools. We invited all Middle Tn. coaches to attend our coach’s clinic at Riverdale and had forms for coaches to sign up. We mailed every high school coach and invitation to come to the clinic. I know as a group of coaches whose main job is to teach and coach second we have put plenty of hours in trying to contact every coach in Middle Tn. to be a member. If your school isn’t a member we hope that they will become one next year.

The MTSCA is going to be able to give $5,000 dollars back to member school seniors who are going to continue their education next year. MTSCA hopes that all Middle Tn. schools will become apart of this growing organization.

For all the good that this organization does, and for the relatively small amount that it cost to join, I feel that any Middle Tennessee Coach that doesn't join this organization should be ashamed.
