qualify for region?

We used to have a qualifying meet for Sectionals. It was called the District meet. The top 2 in each event made the Sectional.

we have a qualifying meet for sectionals called the region or sub-section depending on who you talk to. since our section is on an 8 lane track, both regions advance 4 per event so there are 8, all finals, at sections. we figure if it's a close region, even a 3rd and 4th deserve to qualify for sections but on the other side, if they can't place in the top 4 at regions, top 2 at sections is near impossible. this speeds up our section meet with no heats or sections and gives it even more of a championship feel.
