Shelbyville/MTSU

Sure seems quiet out of Bedford County and MTSU.

Comes down to this:

If MTSU wants to have the best womens' basketball program they can, they will hire Rick Insell.

If political correctness reigns, they will hire another. Lot of pressure in this day and age to not hire a 50-something, white, male, high school coach.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but I believe this.

What about the assistant from Florida, heard she was in the running. She did just sign 3 girls from West Tennessee to head to the Univ of Florida...

Th real question...If Insell gets it, will Fuller and Newman head back to middle Tennessee and play for the little man?

And, who would take the coveted Shelbyville position? Would the reign of Shelbyville be over?

Is the Interim coach an applicant as well?

My source tells me she may be the next coach at MTSU.

Of course, he told me John Kerry would be President, and that OJ killed Nicole.

He can't always be believed.

She has indicated publically that she doesn't want the job.

Time for an update:

My MTSU sources are telling me that three candidates have emerged as front-runners for the job.

Georgia State Head Coach Lea Henry

Florida Assistant Carolyn Thomas-Swinson

Shelbyville Head Coach Rick Insell

The filiing window for appilcations ends on Thursday April 28 according to the MTSU webste. That means that an announcement could come very soon following that. Despite reports by the Murfreesboro newspaper there is a lot of activity happening and everything is full speed ahead. Candidates have been on campus and a coach could be announced soon. I trust my source on campus who says a coach could be announced as early as Friday or early next week (Monday or Tuesday).

These are all three great candidates and MTSU will be lucky to have any one of them. IF it is Insell, everyone knows that his replacement will be hand-picked. I have some thoughts on names, but he is not going anywhere YET.

The assistant you mentioned is Swinson who I have been told is a top three candidate.

Can you name me one major women's college coaching position that has recently been filled by a male? Seems like men coaches for women are quickly becoming dinosaurs. I know there's a few around but every year positions come open and they are quickly filled by female coaches.

Good luck to whoever gets the chance to coach the ladies at MTSU.

    • Defending 2A state Champs Westview Lady Chargers are pretty tough. They lost a bunch of production off last year's squad but returned some talent as well. They still McCall Simms, a Tennesseee Lady Vol softball commit as well as solid talent around the diamond. I dont think they are as good as last season but they will definitely be a tough out. Huntingdon Lady Mustangs seem to be pretty stout as well. Don't know much about Riverside other than Westview defeated them earlier in regions. West Tennessee softball is pretty solid all around id say.
    • Eagleville couldn’t catch up to Jones, he did have his location issues but in that game Eagleville popped up everything and the one hit they did have could have been ruled an error. Jeffcoat was a lot sharper in the beginning of the season last year than the end. ER ran out of pitching and still was in striking distance but none the less the better team one. Last seasons tournament was A LOT more balanced and talented. South Pitts starter is a Lefty who was low 80’s but couldn’t maintain his velo throughout the  outing, their #2 was more impressive last year, we knocked him around this year and his mph was down some. Their #3 isn’t bad neither, throws a lot of strikes and sits high 70’s.
    • He actually had a really solid spring.  I could see him getting some backup snaps on offense and be a regular on special teams.  Really athletic kid who can run.
    • Heard Seq has gotten a lot stronger this off season. Can’t wait to see how the boys do this year
