All this is to prove the point listed above. 2 field judges will not solve everything, but it will make calling a game much more fair because of two perspectives. Football has many refs, why not soccer?

Well, its because we are held hostage to the European model! Yet, I think there'd be a lot less riots and even wars (there was a soccer war!) if there were more judges on the field. But, let's not go too far - sometimes those football refs feel they have to earn their keep and blow a whistle at the drop of a hat. Used to bug the snot out of me when I coached f-ball! :(

ya i understand..FRA will be back im sure..does graduation hurt them this year? how many seniors?

Next year will be a rebuilding year, definitely. Offensively, they lose Whitlock and McDonald, top scorers for the past 2 years, and Williamson. Defensively, its Bolton, Batson, Howell, and Myers. Those are just their senior starters. They keep Premo, who stepped up big time this year, in goal for 2 more years, and still have Adams on offense and Van Eys on defense, but the loss of the class of 05 is going to hurt both FRA mens and womens teams.

True, but I think we all would like to see an improvement in this area (refing) and I know its tough because we loose a lot of good refs every year, that can't take the constant criticisim. I am especially incensed by the way our soccer parents drive off our younger refs in our city leagues - a major reason for our shortage!

Wow! I cant believe CCS won. What a remarkable run they are having....I think they just now have attained a .500 win season. This is gotta be one of the best stories at Spring Fling. Playing for a lame duck coach who was unfortunatley sandbagged and quasi forced to retire after 32 years and a TSSAA record for most wins in TN Soccer history.

I wasnt at the game...Im actually living in Baltimore now but keep up with TN HS sports....

So it seems the game had some questionable calls...I definately empathize with bad calls and it seems FRA has had some bad luck with draws and what not. Being a 4 sport participant at CCS for four years we had our share of bad calls and unfair draws, its simply a part of sports and definately doesnt make losing any better. I genuinely hope FRA has an amazing season next year and wins a State Championship.

Sitting at a computer 15 hours from Memphis, I'm excited to see if this Disneyesque storyline continues for CCS this Saturday. Good luck to both teams.

First let's set the record straight as I was at the game. The refs did not have to be escorted off the field. However, there was a considerable amount of verbal abuse thrown at them from both the FRA parents and players after the game. It was pretty classless and was a poor reflection on a fine school and community.

Second, FRA plays a very physical style of soccer. Always pushing the edge of the envelope to the level of getting players hurt. They ran up against a team of refs that didn't allow that style of play.

Third, the first goal that was called off was due to a FRA player knocking the goalie into the goal, very obvious. The second goal called off was a clear off sides.

Finally, both teams need to be congratulated for a very emotional hard fought contest.

Please don't ever call my friends, the parents, classmates, students, siblings, and especially the players classless ever again. What I wrote was what I was told by parents whom I know to be calm at games, and I will stand with their opinions. Also, "aggressive soccer" which FRA plays does not automatically constitute into throwing red cards out at will. Let's remember, a red is a serious offense.

The toughest test of sportsmanship is given when you are on the losing side of an emotional game.

Our son had an emotional night in Memphis as he and his teammates shared the pain of realizing that their dream of a state championship was over. As a senior, he knows he will not have another opportunity, tonight was it.

When he called home after the game he said: It was a horrible night, but a great year. Over time, I hope that more of the players will feel that way.

Kudo's to CCS. They played hard. Good luck against CAK.

yeah. more detailed update: CCS went up 1st, and put another one in after that. FRA tied it back up and then went down again at the end of the half. 2 goals were taken away from FRA by the refs.  at the beginning of the half, Ryan McDonald and a CCS player went up for a header and knocked into eachother, the CCS player went down and a red was called on McDonald. Knowing Ryan, he would not do something stupid enough to get himself a red in a huge game like this. From what I've heard, it was a horrible call in what continues to be a poorly called game

I heard different stories on this send off....was this a hard red or second yellow? I watched the end of the game and didn't notice FRA playing a man down although I did not count the players.

<_<
