Each week why don't we rank the top 4 teams in each class?

AAA

Brentwood - The best until they are beaten.

Sullivan South - Athletic with the best setter in the state.

Frankin - Looks strong early.

Cookeville - They don't make unforced errors.

A/AA

East Ridge - Probably unbeatable at State.

DCA - Always dangerous.

Boyd Buchanan - Played well at Early Bird.

Anderson County - Young team getting better.

Division II

Father Ryan - Will be tough to beat.

GPS - Lots of energy.

Harding Academy - Great fans.

Harpeth Hall - New coach is making a difference.

If you think that Cookeville is better then Germantown, Ooltewah, Independance or Siegel, then you haven't seen any of those teams play. Siegel, OHS and GHS made it to the state last year. Siegel didn't lose a single player and Germantown didn't lose much either. OHS took a game off Brentwood this weekend and Independance is just a solid young volleyball team.

Cookeville struggled against Blackman and LaVergne. I think Cookeville is a good team but to say they are the 4th best AAA team in the state is a stretch.

Did cookeville win that tournament? They are a much improved team which really helps 7 AAA this year...which is down. I really hope they make it to the State, it is good to see Cookeville competitive again.

You have so many threads going, I don't know where to respond. From your rankings (and one of your other topic threads "setting at East Ridge"), it's obvious you haven't seen East Ridge play this year. If you had, you wouldn't have them ranked #1 and unbeatable at State. Brock must be getting all her kills off of really weak teams. I didn't get to see it but I heard they lost to Brentwood 25-9, 25-? this weekend. I know Brentwood is suppose to be good, but 25-9? If East Ridge is the best of A/AA, then that division is incredibly weak this year. I saw them at the Brentwood Blastoff and the setting was a big problem. Anderson County may be the team to beat in A/AA. I haven't seen all of your ranked teams play, however, I have seen Sullivan South play twice. Both times I've seen them play, their setter has been very inconsitent. She's definitely not the best setter in the state, but she looks like she has potential. She might be a better hitter than setter. Also, she probably looks good because I didn't see another strong player on that team. I have seen Seigal play and I would have them ranked above both Sullivan South and Franklin.

LaVergne hasn't played Cookeville this year so they haven't had a chance to struggle against them. :thumb:

I stand corrected! I thought I read on the score sheet that you had played them, but it must have been AC..which you obviously played well against, even though you got beat in two. I see your team improving a lot this year...so young.

Well- I don't know about any other division but AAA

My ratings don't necessarily go for this week because I haven't seen results for any games. However- my picks are considerably different.

Brentwood- same story different year- great team but probably won't improve

Germantown- haven't heard much yet- However they are going to be strong again

Siegel- haven't hit their top potential yet- but it's only August

Sullivan South- don't know much about them but the hype is up so I'll put 'em up here

Independence- I don't think they're that great but they will surprise many people

I don't think Franklin is very strong- one good player I can think of- but I don't know...

Cookeville...haven't seen them yet but I don't know about state for them???

NecVOl,

I'm hearing good things about USJ, and also Jackson South Side.  I really like Coach Hanson and she is doing great things with the program.  Have you seen Covington or Crockett Co?  Those four are usually the top A-AA teams over in West TN.

Haven't seen Covington yet but we already faced and relatively easily beat Crockett Co and South Side. The Bruins haven't lost a single game yet much less a match.

I do not want to rank any teams, but becool you did not watch sullivan south very good. They are a very good team. I am not going to say who is the best player or best team, but you need to take another look at that team. You must have been watching another game. Take the blinders off. The only think you got right was that Siegle is a good team.

Sorry, no blinders here. I was only commenting on what I saw. Maybe they will have improved next time I see them.

    • A complete cultural change happened at Greeneville and the administration and community opened up their checkbooks.  What a lot of people don't know is Ballard was Zeller's OC for many years and stopped coaching for two years because Zeller and Ballard didn't see eye to eye on some things.  Zeller lead Greeneville to it's first ever Semi Final appearance in 2000 and lost 28-12 at Maryville and had them in the Quarter Finals in 2002 and 2003.  Z was a great coach but lost some control when it came to making workouts mandatory. (He learned from that Mistake and it was at LC when i coached with him.).  Z was let go going into my Senior Year and was replaced by Steve McCurry who was the one that turned the program around.  Steve had won a 4a state championship at AC Reynolds in Asheville and made the administration completely redo the weight room with new equipment, had a football period at the end of the school day to lift, started devil camp, and brought in coaches like Danny Bentley (Still the OL coach), Ballard as the OC, Cody Baugh (QB coach and still there), and even Spradlen who is Greeneville's head coach now as the DB's Coach.  McCurry only coached for two seasons at Greeneville and took a team that had a losing record the year before and finished my Senior Year making it to the Quarters and having a 10-3 record and then followed it up with a Semi Final appearance the next year with an 11-3 record and back to back conference championships.  Loved McCurry to death but the recession hit and the story i heard was he was still buying new equipment for the team that the Principal didn't authorize and his response was "I don't answer to you and only to Niswonger and Bewley" (Two huge donors).  That was it for him and they Promoted Ballard shortly after that.   Greeneville had always been relevant ever since the the late 70's under Coach Fred Sorrell's.  Since Sorrell's took over in 1977 Greeneville overall winning percentage is over 76%.  The biggest reason people might not have thought Greeneville was "Good" until Ballard was Greeneville always played up Classification wise and could never get over the hump. (When there were 3 classifications we played 3a, when it went to 5 we played 4a).  Greeneville is the largest its ever been with 953 students and where playing teams 2 or 3 times there size back in the day (I had a little over 800 kids in the school when i graduated in 2008).  Other teams always would know they would be sore after a game but depth took over and never won a Championship until Greeneville played in the classification the TSSAA actually assigned them. You had names like Dustin Moore (1993 Mr Football for 3a and who Phillip Fulmer said was one of the greatest athletes he ever recruited), James "Mud Turtle" Mayes, Brigham Lyons, Byron Gillespie, Frankie Debusk (National Champion Qb at Furman with GQ), Jasmine Lowery, Cody Baugh, The Greenway Brothers, Joe Watson (Furman), etc.  Now the cultural is from the Pee Wee league up and you grow up as a young kid wanting to wear the Greene and White.  Here is a really good link when it comes to anything Greeneville Football related. https://greenevillefootball.com/   I also don't coach anymore.  Z told me i was to smart with how the school systems are ran these days and ended up going into real estate in Knoxville which has been a great decision for my life.
    • Yes, they will. I'm wondering what kinds of strides Sale Creek will make heading into the second season under Coach Fitz.
    • No yellow stripes on the rug last night. Biggest crowd I’ve seen at 825 since the alco debacle.
    • I know most Pirate starters were seniors last year. Im not sure how accurate it is but someone said we only have 3 seniors. That Prep team will probably make some noise this coming season too.
