The recruiting discussion is cliche and based completely upon either hearsay, bias, or, in some cases, perhaps jealousy.  If it were based on empirical fact, it would be a valuable topic; since it is not, it can accomplish nothing beneficial.

If you have solid evidence, send it to the TSSAA.  Otherwise, keep it off our message boards.

Just driving down the road in my new Benz, checking the time on my new Rolex, both of which Coach Flatt payed for out of his own pocket. What ever, that is such bull. 2 things I know about BA, anyone that was or thought they were good at Fball, BA recruited them. Also, everyone has beat, just killed BA...... in a scrimmage. Again, more bull. For years I have heard statements such as "yeah, BA wanted me, Carlton Flatt came to my house and offered me a scholarship." Those people are so stupid. I ask " why didn't you go there? You mean you didn't want to play for the best program in the state, for one of the best HS coaches in the history of HS Fball?" Maybe it was the simple fact that Coach had never heard of them. Maybe some of them are just idiots. BA does not have to recruit, playing for state championships does the recruiting for BA. Sure they have not won state for a while now, but they are still consistantly playing for that GOLD FOOTBALL. If your not familiar w/ the GOLD FOOTBALL, go check out BA's trophy case. You can look at 9 of them along with 10 or so Silver Footballs. As for the scholarships, the correct term would be financial aid. All of the DII schools offer assistance on a need basis. Remember? BA Went to the Supreme Court, battled, defended and just like the Fball team, they won. Thus, a few years later DII was born. Anyone that qualifies, can receive aid. Not just athletes, anyone can get aid. So, you tell me what is fair, turning a smart talented kid away from school because his family can not afford 15 grand a yr or giving that kid the opportunity to attend a fine academic, athletic, christian school. You tell me what is fair.

Brentwood Academy recruited in the past.  I know.  They do not deny this. If anyone tells you differntly they are mistaken.  I have the experience, class ring, and yearbook to prove it.

First of all "recruiting" per say is legal. So, I would not doubt that they have admitted it. The supreme court ruled that promoting your program is free speech. "Undo influence" is not legal. No one was able to present any credible evidence to any of the courts that this ever happened. Therefore BA emerged victorious.

You my friend are correct. I am not speaking of the legal defintion of the word. I am speaking of being able to go to school there because of talents. Lets not get into a Clilnton what "is" is. I understand that many schools attract students for many reasons, I contend that a reason could be athletic promise. Nothing in the world wrong with this process. That does not mean that an a student was given tuition based on their potential ability to preform on the athletic field.

I agree, i think Eagles09 was looking for a fight.. but i am going to give my honest opinnion of BA this yr.. from what i have heard they are not as good as they were last year, they have two explosive backs and an excellent WR, but graduated alot of the offensive line and from what i remember last year, their secondary consisted alot of seniors and defensive line also had alot of seniors.. thats the honest opinnion you asked for Eagles09

on the case of recruiting- wether it happened or not, BA was found innocent, as for other private school posters critizing BA, they need to go ahead and quit, because EVERY DII-AAA school has done some type of "recruiting"

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
