Brentwood has not been beat and they haven't tied one yet. Franklin took a tough L to Centennial and are out for revenge. Who's gonna win this game?

Brentwood's schedule = cupcakes every year

At least this time you chose to post something like this on the appropriate thread. However, as you did on the Franklin / Centennial thread you still seem to miss the major point. Franklin outplayed Brentwood in all aspects of the game last evening. The first goal by #19 Horner might be one of the best goals I have ever seen in person because of the angle, distance and point of entry. Franklin is to be congratulated and a young Brentwood team should get better from the experience. My daughter has played for Brentwood varsity for the past three seasons so I hope that my observations at least seem objective.

As to the comment about the Brentwood schedule being nothing but “cupcakes every year” I feel that once again you are off base. If you are a father, as would be indicated by the “dad” at the end of your screen name consider growing up a bit! If you are a student I suppose it is fine to express such opinions about a rival school but please consider the following:

1. Brentwood, as well as Franklin, Centennial and Ravenwood all play in what is arguably the toughest district in the state. Each year at least one team that is good enough to play with the teams at the state tournament end up being knocked out during district play.

2. 2003: Brentwood played the following: Franklin (State Champions), Centennial, Baylor (State Champions), Father Ryan, Farragut (State Runner up), Hendersonville, GPS, BA cannot remember the rest, will do better in 04 and 05.

3. 2004: Brentwood Played: Franklin, Centennial, Hendersonville, Collierville, Germantown, Ooltewah, Oak Ridge, Siegel, FRA (State Champions), Baylor (State Champions), BGA, BA, JPII. Now lets do the math from teams playing in the state championships in 2004 shall we; A-AA –Brentwood played1 out of 8 teams/ FRA (SC), DII – Brentwood played 5 out of 8 teams including Baylor (SC), finally AAA- Brentwood was one of the teams but they managed to play 4 of the remaining 7 teams. So that makes 23 possible teams from the state tournaments in 2004 and Brentwood played 10 or 43%. I am note sure how many other teams played more but there may be a few.

4. 2005: Of the teams currently ranked in eurosport in all three classifications here is the Brentwood line-up of teams they have played. Brentwood is only playing a 16 game regular season but I will include the DII teams that have been on the regular season schedule in the past that were played in the pre season. DII- Father Ryan (1), Baylor (2), JPII (3) / A-AA- Notre Dame (5) / AAA- Centennial (3), Tullahoma (4), Franklin (6), Hendersonville (8) and Siegel (11).

Brentwood is a young team with 8 freshman and sophomore starters that will become better as they have more time to play together. The loss of 9 seniors for any soccer team would be hard and for Brentwood it has probably gone better than almost any of the parents would reasonably expect. So feel free to say that Brentwood was over rated when ranked #1 in the state or that the team is not as strong as in the past couple of years. That point is at least one that can be based in some degree of fact. However, it is simply not true that Brentwood does not play quality competition and to say so insults not only Brentwood but the teams that they play year in and year out.

One last thing to consider is that those 8 young starters will be juniors and seniors in a couple of years!

Was glad to see Franklin taking longer shots. I think all four goals from outside the box. That, more than anything, should help develop a stronger offensive mindset as the year progresses.

All four goals were exceptionaly well placed into the top left corner of the goal, which tells me that FHS has some great shooters who just need to turn it loose!

A much better job of getting the body over the ball in order to keep from having balls sail over the goal!!

tide84 is taking HS soccer waaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously! Enjoy watching your daughter play while you can because it doesn't last forever. Besides, only a hand full of people in this world care whether or not Brentwood has a good team now or in the future(or any other school for that matter).

I completely agree with your comments except the girls do care. If you have even seen me post, which has been infrequent in my three years as a Coach T member you would know that I only write on two topics. The first is to congratulate opposing teams or players that I have seen play or to challenge cheep shots directed at teams or players who we have a history with in the different travel sports. I do the Brentwood Web sits so no real research went into the post but I do appreciate your comments!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
