ok i think sum facts need 2 get out on this. u r seeing 1 side only. i played 4 coach ferg & there is not a racial bone in his body. he treats players like family. if anything he might treat them 2 good be-cuz he always wants to think the best of them even when they lie. i support Ferg and the whole team on this 1. i know pico as well. and here is the funny part, i bet when ferg hit his knees last nite, he prayed 4 u pico and 4 ur mom.

pico was ALREADY allowed back on this team once. if u got a 2nd chance then u should go out of ur way 2 show it is deserved , rite? well bottom line on this 1 is that pico and his mom think be-cuz he was a stud on the freshman team one year ago that he should start on varsity. well aint gonna happen.it is hard to start at tb as a soph even on a rebuildin team. he had a chance to prove himself and he hasnt been able 2. not saying that he cant , just sayin he hasnt. he was sleeping AFTER he was allowed back on the team when all the other boys ran sprints in the hot heat and could LISTEN 2 coach. momma has already tried 2 send this on 3 different levels 2 get ferg in trouble. the sro, principal, and school board cleared him of no wrong-doing. so now she wants 2 go 2 the media and look like a bigger fool than she already looks. now here is the odd part. pico gets to be in homecoming court. anybody else walks out proudly in their uniform . but not pico, he is already given a 2nd chance, but he chooses 2 wear a tux and NOT dress out with his teammates? but yet, ferg is wrong to boot him off 4 that? what other coach lets 1 of his players get by with not dressin out for homecoming? sorry, but that aint puttin ur team first and that is pico's whole problem. he is playin as an individual and not as a TEAM. then he yelps about ferg being quick 2 kick a kid off? that shows how ignorant the whole thing is. he burned his bridge real fast. i dont know any other coach that wouldnt have dun the same thing if a kid that u tried to give a second chance 2 wasnt listenin 2 u. he didnt abuse pico and he didnt assault him. momma is doin what she has been good at all her life, make excuses 4 her kid instead of disciplining him. but then what coach lets a kid get back on after kicking them off? what about daryl smith. he let him come back and daryl didnt live up 2 what was asked of him 2 be back on the team. how many chances r u supposed 2 get?

what makes me so mad is that sum of the others r jumpin on the race train 2. ther isnt any-1 that ferg hasnt tried 2 help straighten out his life than cord cowan and his momma knows it. she should be ashamed 2 be involved. cord is good enough 2 play in college, but who wants 2 touch him now? dont u guys know u just ruined any chance u have of playin at the next level? u goin 2 be labeled as trouble. let pico stand alone. go about ur business and get the focus back on the game.

2 all the boys still playin 4 the pats, i hope u go out friday and win this game 4 this team so everyone really knows who was causin u 2 lose.

2 make sure u aint sleepin?

Were you out there the day the alleged assault took place?

If not, I don't think you should say what happend on that day in August. It seems strange to me that numerous players would say it got out of hand that day, if it didn't. I wouldn't think everyone would be making that up. Also, if a guy looks as if he is falling asleep after running 12 windsprints(this is not normal) in 90 degree weather...the common sense thing would be to make sure the kid is ok, not to go and jerk him up. Also, I just don't know why a witness that you are saying is making up the assault case would be willing to put their name out there in the media if they are making false accusations.

As for whether this is a racial thing, that is probably yet to be determined...But it does look strange to outsiders if the majority, if not all of the kids being kicked off the team are blk even when you hear of wht kids gettin in trouble also.

i don't know who's right or wrong here but i think if my son experienced abuse at the hands of a coach he would not be back playing for said coach. furthermore if i witnessed a coach abusing a player on my kid's team then he would not be back either. life is a little bit more important than football.

i don't think i would have waited until he got kicked off the team for something else before i waged a war at that coach.

i can't stand it when the faculty stands behind someone because he is a "good guy"

and what I mean is that people act like a coach, who is always going to put up a "good guy" character in front of faculty & parents, can not do anything wrong. I don't think this is an act out of a player's parents getting mad because he does not start. but i know everyone of you would take action on a coach if your son or daughter made a very bad complaint about them(the coach). even if you found out later it was a lie, you would have done the right thing by investigating it. the faculty seems too careless of this situation. i think it will haunt them and then they will see how much a "good guy" this guy is.

I really think that oland has covered most of the basics on this , but I would like to point out a few things.

First of all my son played for Coach Ferguson. Never did he exhibit any of the things that he is being accused of at any time....whether in wins or in losses. I have attended many scrimmages, football games, and practices in that time frame. In fact I have missed exactly ONE game and ONE scrimmage in the 10 yrs that Coach Ferg has been on staff. In fact, he is one of the reasons that I still support football at Oakland High School. So I feel like I can effectively ascertain the character of one Coach Ferguson. Coach Ferg is probably the most positive man I have ever known. He always has a kind word and an open door policy . In fact, maybe that may be his downfall....he cares too much for the players???

1. Pico made his choice to play on this team. He asked for a second chance when he was removed , and he got that chance. If Ferg was SO brutal on him that day in August, why was he STILL on the team on Sept 16th? If he was so scarred and scared, he should NEVER have been able to go back. And if other players felt that excessive forse was used........they would have quit that day out of fear that the same would happen to them. Surely someone should have seen that racial, abusive personality...so why did he still have kids playing on the team? And how can a lady in an Expedition in the end zone outside of a chain link fence clearly see what is going down at the far end of the practice field anyway? And can she show me where she tool Pico to the Dr that day in August you know when his eyes were rolling back in his head? I would like to see the PROOF. If she was so bothered about his health, then she would have rushed him to the ER, right?? so does she have the documented proof ?

2. If Pico was so dedicated to this team, he would have chosen to dress in his football uniform to escort the young lady at Homecoming. I have seen tons of players participate in Homecoming in their uniform. He CHOSE otherwise. A bit suspicious as to why this went to the news after he was booted and not before that time frame. I mean the so-called incident was in August. Because of the score...I think he should have known he would get some playing time in that game.

3. Ferg has been cleared by three separate bodies of power. I repeat THREE. That means NOT GUILTY.

4. If he has a history of abuse and cruelty, why has no one challenged him about it before? This is his tenth year at OHS. Surely...he would have flipped out sometime in that time span if this were something in his nature.

5. About Cord, he attended basically no practices this summer. Ferg was getting ready to kick him off the team because that violated the team rules. His Mother came to Ferg and explained a "situation" and asked him to keep Cord on the team. He complied because he cares about Cord. Now if he is the racist that you are implying and quick to kick kids off.....wouldn't he have used that opportunity and breaking of the rules to rid the team of Cord?

To sum up......I hate that all of this has gone down. I always enjoyed watching Pico play. I think he has gotten caught up in this by an over-zealous mother who has gotten others to try to ride shot-gun with her. The folk being hurt are the players on the team. That is what is so sad...and if we were 5-0 right now......how much do you want to bet that Pico's mom would never have said a word?

But look at the timing!!!! Why wasn't this addressed in August?

    • Easier said than done. The man who ran for 250+ yards and 3TDs is gonna be back….and a lot bigger.
    • plus it removes the pressure around winning.
    • You are correct.   The teacher's pay scale is virtually the same in Knox County, now, as it is at Oak Ridge.   The coaching supplements are still higher at Oak Ridge, from what I was told, but not a huge difference.   Plus, Rusty is going from a position coach to an OC position, which is what he was at South Doyle and where his comfort zone is.  And from a special education teaching slot to a PE teaching slot.  There is a lot of positivity in that move without even considering the coaching aspect.   Anybody who sees something negative here is just looking for negativity to begin with.  But some live in that world.   Really good hire for Brent.  He now has two experienced and quality coordinators and can concentrate on being a head football coach.
    • He was pretty darn good for a freshman, but he will have a hard time seeing the field at Oakland for a good while, I’m afraid.
    • Dang I feel bad for the kid. I’m sure he loves his dad and wants to do anything for his dad but I don’t think he realizes his dad isn’t doing the best for his football career if he keeps jumping schools.
