go blue
they have to be clear, we had a player who had to switch helmuts last year because of the darker one.
Tom142
Kyrus Lanxter for Alcoa wears a partially tinted grey visor, and Brian Sommer wears a partially tinted maroon visor.
o21putt
For at least the third time, the officials are not doing their job if they are allowing players to wear shields on their helmets that are not clear.
VolunteerGeneral
The reason they have to be clear is for medical people so they can see you eyes better. the problem out guys have with visors is them getting foggy or dirty. Thanks...I didn`t know that, but it`s a good common sense rule.
tnsparty
Do you have to wear a clear one if you wear one? Yes, any visor has to be clear under HS rules. Reason given is that medical personnel have to be able to see the player's eyes in case of an injury. I believe the NCAA adopted the same rule starting this year. philip2003
I know they have to be clear because Wartburg was made to take their "tainted" ones out. If these sheilds are illegal Why do people sell kids these? Shouldn't the sellers know the rules and request that they buy a clear one? GOKAR
I HAVE HEARD THE REASON THEY ARE REQUIRING VISORS TO BE WORN BY PLAYERS IS THAT TOBACCO SPIT IS GETTING INTO THE EYES OF PLAYERS. I DON'T SEE WHERE TINT WOULD HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT. OH YEA, THAT GOES BACK TO ANOTHER TOPIC THOUGH DOESN'T IT?
Rebfan#
Yep, they have to be clear. If he was wearing a black one and didn't nothing get said, then the Referees weren't doing their job. though something might have been worked out before the game. The opposing coach could have said something. I wear a dark blue one,but you can barely see my eyes.I know of many teams i've played against this year that have tinted visors and not had anything said to them.I guess it just might depend on where ur playing. rhsplaya55
the tinted grey or "smoked" tinted visors are legal b/c although they are not completely clear the players eyes can be seen just as well as a clear one. DAL
According to the rule book the visor must be clear. One of our players had a visor that was just slightly tinted an the Head Official threw the flag, 15 yard penalty on the head coach for allowing a player on the field who was inappropriately. The Ref also made him leave the field until the visor was removed. This happened during the 5th or 6th game of the season. We explained to the official that no other officials had said a thing about it. He told us the rule book states the visor must be clear. Period. I guess whether it gets called or not depends on who the official is. Edited October 20, 2005 by DAL
o21putt
The most important question that the coach is asked before the game is, Are all of your players wearing legal equipment? If he answers yes, then it is up to the coach to make sure that all of his players who enter the game do not have illegal equipment on.
