Why We Love Single A Football

Whether its the side of Roane Mtn? Or going to Coalfield to deal with the crazys? Or going to the "log cabin" visitor locker room of Oneida? Or could it be that wide open space at Sunbright? Or up on the creek on Goddard Field where Carl's roost overlooks? Or could it be at Bill Humphrey Stadium in Jellico where you can hear the rumble of traffic from 75? Or could it be the harsh fans screaming at Cosby? Or climbing that Morgan County mountain on your way to Oakdale? Or could it be in Roane County at Midway and hear that great announcer? These are just some of the great things that make up our sport. 1A may be small but you'll still find as much tradition on any given Friday night in the fall on these isolated farmtowns that time forgot than the bright streets of Knox Central Or Oak Ridge. These are just some of the things that makes single A football great to watch.

I couldnt agree more. Playing at a private school where the school community was very diverse in terms of location and when Coalfield or Greenback and the other schools would bring more fans than we had. I always wanted to play at a small rural school just to know what it felt like to have the whole town pulling for me and my friends. 1A football is no doubt the best, and Region 2 will always be my favorite.

Sounds like you share some of the same charm that old Region 6 1A has. You can sometimes smell the Jack Daniels when playing at Moore County. Or playing on the field that Majors built at Huntland with the Cumberland Escarpment in the distance. How bout frog bottom at Cornersville? Or the field at Forrest backing up to the state's largest tractor pull. Then going down the Trace to play Collinwood in the pit, which is basically a field carved into the side of a hill out in the woods. Or Wayne County with those old dim lights, dark uniforms, and a ball with no stripes while running the veer, that was always tough. Small town football at its best.

Check out the Hampton, Cloudland game, two schools 10 minutes apart for the region championship. Everyone from both communities screaming their lungs out, the electricity is unbeleiveable. Makes chill bumps.NOTHING LIKE PLAYING AT ROAN MT.

Wow ougt to be a hard hitting game. I bet the clock flies by in this one (no passes). Good luck to both teams Im not going to make any pradictions on this one too close to call. Good luck all you Cloudland players. Im probly gonna have to pull for Cloudlandin this one. Watch out landers ole Johnny Price #71 is a load. and that fullback is a mean man if you know what i mean. But I dont think they can outplay Horny or Winchester. This games gonna leave bruises on both teams. Heck maybe even the fans. Friday Night Warfare I love it.

    • I believe that was last year. I was interested in the Jones vs Baker comment, so I went back and looked at GC. I am not a fan of either nor am I a baseball guru. This looks like to me the duel was not close and if the errors would not have been made Eagleville would have won. I assume you are a little biased. I do think your mph for Jeffcoat and Baker must be from last year.  Baker-85 pitches 67 strikes. 5.2 innings, 5H, 1BB, 0ER and 7K's. 3 errors  Jones- 78 pitches 37 strikes. 4 innings, 2H, 5BB, 0ER and 1K. 1 error   Adams and the UH kid are really good as well. What about South Pitt and Oakdale? I heard they have some good ones.
    • I hate this for all the kids in the program and fans alike. I can't recall of anything like this before in my lifetime but I'm sure it isn't a first. After criminal investigations are complete and the TSSAA looks into this the program it will be facing Nuclear Winter for some time to come. It's always the innocent left behind that end up paying the price for something someone else has done. I'm sure the transfer portal will be very active in Clinton over the summer months. How could you find a good coach worth his salt that would take on a situation like this not knowing what will happen.
    • I’ve seen Jeffcoat in person twice and he was 84-87 both times and the one time I saw Baker he was low 80’s, he actually got out dueled by Jones from ER in that outing.
    • Pirate fans, thread is up on the baseball message board.
