DII Strong Teams and Players and State Predictions

Anyone care to comment on DII great players and/or teams?

Better yet, any state predictions?

GPS did not have any seniors on the team last season, and pretty much have the same team that made it to the state semi-finals last season. They have a 3-0 record so far with wins over Silverdale Baptist, South Pittsburg, and Notre Dame.

Lady Lynx are the favorite in my eyes! Love there hustle, and just wish I could watch them more often... the #24 point guard is one of the top 2 point guards in the state, and SHE'S in 8th Grade! If you don't know that already, YOU WILL WHEN YOU SEE HER! I see 2 Miss Basketball's in Her Future!

Lauren Avant. Played with the 13u Memphis Elite/W TN Tigers in AAU last year. She played up. That team really took it to Heritage and probably should have won.

I find it quite interesting that all of a sudden Lausanne actually has a girl’s team that not only can actually dribble but also is good. The way I hear it is that a bunch a AAU players have magically shown up to a school where girl’s basketball had been one of the biggest jokes in the city. Actually that's not accurate; to be a big joke people had to actually know the school existed. And yes Lausanne is known as an EXCELLENT academic school but their sports program was widely unrecognized because of the lack of success. Don't start replying just yet about the boy’s basketball team, they've only been good in the last few years, which coincided with players like Gasol and West.

Their "head coach" never gets off the bench and the assistant does all the coaching. Funny thing, he is in charge of "player development and college exposure" of Memphis lady elite AAU, http://www.memphisladyelite.org/contacts.html. If you check the Lausanne website.

http://lausannesports.com/pages/coaches.htm#hunter, one will notice that the assistant coach who is in charge of player development and college exposure for Lady Elite has no college credentials posted. The TSSAA handbook states on page 9, in section 9 of the by-laws, http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/handbook.pdf, that head coaches must be retired educators or full time employees with teaching credentials. The Head coach does, but he does not do any of the coaching. The assistant coaches them.

Lausanne's team is good, real good. I don't know just something to think about.

Sounds like you are a fan of either one of the schools Lausanne has already beaten or one of the schools you are scared they are going to beat. Last time I checked all schools, Div 1 and 2, play by the same TSSAA rules, and all Div 2 schools are governed by the same financial aid guidelines. So the playing field is level, and it comes down to where girls choose to go to school, how the coaches develop the players, and how the girls perform on the court. You are correct, Lausanne is an excellent school and has enjoyed recent success in boy's basketball, so it shouldn't be so shocking to you that girl's basketball is now enjoying some success. Coach Kelley is an excellent coach and more importantly a tremendous person, who has been involved for many years in girl's amateur basketball. Interestingly, many of the teams Lausanne will play this year will be led by players he has either coached or trained in the past. I notice you didn't seem inclined to mention other schools where Memphis Elite players are making an impact, both Div 1 and 2. Look at the box scores for most of the better high school teams in town and you will see Memphis Elite girls among the leading scorers, including St Benedict, a school you appear to follow based upon your previous posts in other forums. I also find it "quite interesting" that you ignored the program which has been dominant in Div 2 in this area, Briarcrest, and their connections over the years to the former Memphis Waves and now the Memphis Glory, another AAU organization in town. No need to post links or go into biographies of their coaches and representatives. Just something to think about. Muddycity, your post is an insult to the Lausanne School, the coaches, and the players, and nothing but sour grapes. You should have restricted your comments to one of your last statements; Lausanne's team is good, real good. And that's no joke. Keep up the good work girls......

First, giving honor to God and how he says to forgive, we must overlook people with hidden agendas and people who always trying to down another. When somebody or someone attempts to keep up confusion their usually not happy in their own setting or surrounding. The topic started off fine asking about who would be contenders and then the real reason came out, somebody wanting to attack another innocent person(s). I have been on the other side before and fully wish people would not always hide behind a name on a computer but if you dont have anything nice to say, say nothing. Also, LBJames23Fan stated it best, WHO CARES, let the girls play basketball and let the coaches, coach, no matter who it is. All good basketball programs have a head coach and an assistant coach that must work together. Now, there are surely other young ladies throughout Memphis that play on teams and have played AAU BAsketball, furthermore look throughout the state. We are very strong in Middle Tennessee. Good luck with your season at Lausanne and take care of your young player Lauren Avant.

bg3, I notice you quoted me before you shamed us, the posters on this topic. I hope I'm not at fault...I don't think I am? My question was not meant to put down anyone, I just don't appreciate it when people try to make DI or DII seem better than the other, when both of them play by the same rules that are coming from the same TSSAA rule book.
