I'll go with the defense but unless he has improved a bunch that is all he has. I've played against him for years, and he's decent but nothin special. I'll put it this way, if Dunn is as good as I've been hearing, he should be playing over Cates.

I might be and idiot or a genious, but I think you are crazy one of the main reason we even stayed close to Cookeville and Sparta was Wilson Cates.Yes ,Chase Dunn may be better than Cates by the time he is a senoir .Cates is one of the best point guards in this state, and yeah, this does sound like i am another on the bandwagon ,but i am not.I just think this is someone talking not knowing what they are aguing about. You need to come to more games is all I am saying. After he's won state, hopefully.

Dunn is a GREAT ball player. But Cates is a natural born leader. He brings more to the team than whats in the stat books. But yes, he can Handle the Rock.

I think we may be jumping the gun on Chase. He is good. But, lets not just keep giving him stuff to live up to and putting unneeded pressure on him just yet. In due time.. In due time...

GO HOG-EYE

Good post. I don't think it is fair to compare Dunn to Cates right now. Like General said Cates is a natural born leader and he will continue to be a leader this year. Maybe in the years to come we will be able to say the same about Dunn.

I have no problems with Wilson Cates. I like him, I like his father, they are both good people. The only problem is that alot of people think he ia alot better than he actually is. I have watched him plenty, and he is not one of the best point gaurds in the state, he can lead, that's his job, but he is no where near the basketball player that the people in Livingston give him credit for. I am not saying that it is Cates fault that Chase Dunn will be better, don't know where you got that from. All I am saying is that Wilson hasn't put up the numbers in any year of basketball playing in his life that Dunn is putting up now, as a freshman. There should not be a question as to whether or not Dunn will live up to it, if he has the drive, and I know he does, the question is when will he live up to it. Like I said Wilson can play D, and handle the ball decently, but the difference between Wilson and Chase is that Chase is going to put up alot of points. I look forward to the game at Celina Thursday night, and good luck to both teams, but still say LA by 5 possibly more, depending on how well they gaurd Clays gaurds.

For all you people that think this young freshman is better than Wilson Cates, thats just plain crazy. Weaknesses will be exposed and if #33 averages over 20 a game against Cates who is going to stop him without Superman there? If Celina goes man and i'm sure they will Dunn will see some defense that he hasn't seen yet. I'm actually not even worried about him, its the other seasoned vets that LA has that is more of a concern. This same team beat this same LA team last year at Celina if you remember correctly and i don't see anything changing this year! :thumb:

Chase Dunn is short and harmless right. I mean that's what all the other teams have thought I'm sure and oh yeah I almost forgot. He's a FRESHMAN. But, then again there is this possibly eye opening revolution, he's been the leading scorer in all of LA's games so far this season, and I hope you're not saying that Clay plays better Defense than Siegel, which may be possible *I haven't seen Siegel play* but they are rated really good, and he dunn awesome against them. Anyways, good luck to both teams in this game, as it will be a barn burner.

Trust me, I have more knowledge of basketball than you could ever dream of having. If you think Cates is one of the best point guards in the state then you don't know what you're talking about. When I played high school ball, I had the same attributes Wilson has, and I wasn't one of the best wing men in the state. I was decent but nothin special. The same goes for Cates.

None of the teams LA has played so far has been worried about Chase Dunn. He seemed to have done fine against them, and if Clay doesn't worry about him any, then he may have another career night against them. Then again, he may be terrible against Clay, i mean with that awesome defense like LA hasn't seen this year. (Siegel's defense was terrible i'm sure, i mean it usually is on a very high rated AAA school.) But, to this "same" La team they had last year, um...what about Matt Reeder, Brad West, Wesley Pucket, I remember all of them starting, but I don't remember seeing them out there against Pickett County the other night. Oh, that's right they graduated, so if half the team graduated how do they have the "same" team. I'm sure Clay will have the "same" team next year after Casey, Dustin, Jon, Tyler, Saylor, Bobby, Sean, etc graduate. They'll look exactly the same, huh. Good luck to both teams at Celina Thurs.

I hope you're right about that defense, because if Clay plays lazy on that press in this game like they did against Gville, they'll be gettin scored on so fast they won't know what happened. We played the zones decent but that press was pathetic. Gotta cut off those sidelines.

Cates is not a basketball player. what planet are u from? he can almost single-handedly break a press and no he will not average 20 a game because he dishes off a lot more than he shoots. he may not be the best pure shooter ever, but he can do everything else extremely well. u r right about one thing though, he is one heck of a football player.

First of all, LOL I have seen wilson play. Just to clear that up LOL. He is not that great at basketball. He is AWESOME at football, but basketball I'd say the city of Livingston is the one jumping the gun and most everyone in LA country thinks he's God. Sorry to dissappoint but he's not. Who's jumping the gun with Chase Dunn, he is a good player, and in a couple of years will be better at basketball than Cates has ever thought about being. Wilson may be a natural leader and all that stuff, but he can't score points, he can play D and he's a fair ball handler, but he will never score. But, like I said everyone from Livingston is extremely biased and thinks he's God at whatever he does. Anyways LA wins in a close one by 5 Thursday night IN Celina. Good Luck to both teams.

my response was to you play 4 fun. We don't think he is God, but I believe in giving credit where it it due. Cates is awesome.

I really don't see the need in LA even showing up even when they get Superman back. If Superman can't hold the real superman #33 less than 20 points, I'd say he will score at least 35 thursday night. cats, good luck but you don't stand much of a chance having to play the real Superman without the bogus Superman. maybe we can stay within 20 at least i hope so.

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
