I think I speak for all of the wrestlers and softball players here at Sycamore. We all miss you so much and dont know what we are going to do without you. You are such a great person and coach. Hopefully we can get this sorted out and get you back. We are all better people and better athletes because of you.

I have known Johnny Masters for over 20 years. I knew him in High School. I knew him when he coached at Northeast and at Kenwood. If you don't personally know him then you probably don't like him to much. He is a serious competitor. That makes him come across as being someone you love to hate. But I can tell you that if you know him personally you know that thier is not a better friend in the world. He loves every kid that he teaches and coaches. I have seen him turn around kids who were headed for distruction and make winners out of them. I know that he has a deep care for all of his students and athletes. I know that when they are done with high school that he makes sure they are taken care of if they want to go to college. I know that his old wrestlers call him all the time for advice and to thank him for what he did in thier lives. I am an avid wrestling fan with no ties to any school, but I love to watch kids turn around thier lives because of coaches. This man has done this many times.

I have talked with him about the incidents that have occurred over the past few weeks and when you know the whole story you know that Cheatham County has lost one of the best coaches and educators that they could ever hope to have, for no reason. Yes he may have made some mistakes but who hasn't? We all make them, they just don't get splashed all over the news with only one side of the story being told.

I have talked to him this weekened and I can tell you that he is crushed. I can also tell you that all of his students and athletes are crushed. They know what they have lost.

All I am asking you is that you not judge this man until you know all of the facts. Anyone can convince you that someone is bad if you only hear one side of the story. He has told me that he has a lawyer and he will fight this to the end. He has a great passion for what he does and will fight for what is right.

Believe what you want but just remember, it could be you getting blasted by people who dont know the whole story.

since you seem to know all the facts and are willing to aknowledge the worth of this man and his character, then what has the local system missed in this situation?

Have they jumped to conclusions and not investigated the text messages he sent to a 15 year old female student? We can only imagine what could have been communicated in those instant messages, but double meaning to the words that he wrote?

Tell us why we should not believe the school system on this one.

apparently, these are more than allegations, since action has already been taken.

Coaches are leaders. On the thread concerning "best coaches ever, many talk about the lesson taught in life, away from the sports. While things can be taught in a positive manner, they can also be taught through actions.

The question is this, if it were you 15 year old daughter, would you want them involved in what ever this situation is?

Ok. I will tell you the facts. He was close to this student as he is and has been with many other students over the last 15 years or so that he has been teaching. This particular student had perfect attendance this year in his class. When she did not show he knew it was uncharacteristic and he was worried. Kind of like I would be if one of my daughters was not where she said she would be at a certain time. He sent the messages to check on her. When she did not respond he sent more messages. He was very concerned and even asked some of her friends if they knew why she wasn't there. She finally showed up to his class in tears because her mom had seen the messages and had taken them the wrong way. He realizes that he went a little too far in caring for this student. He also knows that this student cared about him like a father. He was punished by a letter of reprimand which outlined certain restrictions he must follow. Case closed right? Not in Cheatham County. The newspapers kept the pot hot and printed things to put pressure on people in charge. So after following his guidelines to the letter, the director of schools felt the heat and asked him to resign or he would be removed. He did not resign because as he called it, this was double jeopardy. Those are the facts and thats all there was to it. The school board, police and DCS investigated the matter and found no case, but someone has the power in Cheatham County to bully the director. She punished him as she saw fit, but after politics and the media kept the "story" alive she relented to the pressure. She said that because he had previous reprimands in his file from Montgomery County, which were known about when he was hired, that she was letting him go. These reprimands were the first 2 he ever had over a 12 year career. Just so happens that it was a first year principal who gave him these reprimands. He had even asked to be transferred when he knew who the principal would be, but the jerk denied the transfer so he could make his life miserable. This principal just happens to be the same guy who applied for the head wrestling job at Kenwood when Johnny got it. Talk about getting revenge. Anyway, ask any kid that he was involved with at Sycamore and they will tell you he did nothing wrong. They will tell you that he was like a father to the student involved. Poor judgement maybe, but nothing to be released over. By the way, I called him and asked if I could type all of this, so dont think that Im just on here telling all of his business. He was an outsider with a huge heart in a small town with nothing to write about.

And by the way, Mr Texas, I have two teenage daughters and he treats them as if they were his own kids and they love him like he was another father. This might make some people jealous, especially those not doing a great job with thier kids, but not me because I know him and I know his heart.

hey, glad to hear that side of the story. I never took a side, so back off the offended stance.

Let us not overlook the fact that, according to your post above, the parent had an issue with the communication. So should we believe she had reason to, or, should we go ask any student, as you suggest. There must have been something in those text messages that made the parent uncomfortable with the coach, otherwise why would they report them to the school board?

thank you hound at least some people understand, and yes im one of his wrestlers and i know he wouldnt do ne thing bad and no he didnt do ne thing bad. He tells us if we need to talk about something he is always there to talk to us so yes he is a great man, and if he knew he was going to get in trouble for it he wouldnt of done it.

i agree fball, it is good that someone sees that coach is a good guy. I play softball for sycamore and i am a little sister for the wrestling program. And yes you could ask any of his students and athletes and you will hear the same thing. He did nothing wrong, he just cared. and being part of both of the programs that coach masters ran i was crushed, because as hound said i know what i great person we lost. hopefully the school board will realize this too. sycamore wont be the same great place it was now that coach isn't there.

It is a comfort to know that the students have better insight into this than the parent of the 15 year old involved.
