Ask any Mt. Juliet opponent....they play the full 94.

MJ has the personel to do it, and they do it very well. Another team who uses the full court press very well is DCA. I thought Harpeth Hall did a very good job with the full court press when I watched them last year. I would bet there are a lot of teams that utilize it.

I saw Antioch play over the break and have seen Doug Keil's boys team throughout the years, I was wondering, why don't more girls' teams play 94 feet? Antioch seems to be making it work, do any other teams? What is the key? Can you do it with athletes not on Antioch's level?

It seems to have served Oakland well with the Lady Pats having 3 State Final 4 appearances in the last 5 years. However, not just any team is gonna have major success with the full court press, I believe adequate depth and having the personnel to run it for the majority of the game is a must

I think most teams use it situationally. DCA, who lack size, use it very effectively because of quickness. Most teams do not have their speed. Siegel, the leader in defense in 7AAA, will put full court pressure on when they need to. They have a very deep bench, with anyone they put in being as good as the player they replace. This is a very rare circumstance.

I think it is totally dependent on what type of players a team has. Most teams press at some point, many with little or no results.

Thats how McMinn Central wins their games ! They figure if you use a high pressure defence all the time the opponent will not score and then just average scoring will win the games.......... and it appears it works well for Central.

Along with having the talent to press full court you also have to know how to teach it.In AAU most all the teams press. At least the better ones anyway

In the MJ system, they learn it in Middle school, this is another reason they are good at it. It is true, team speed, team depth and the ability to do it are all valid considerations.

Worden 55 that is exactly what I meant by the instructional part I see girls on teams in Nashville and know from their AAU teams they can press and understand the concepts but in some of their school's systems the team may not perform as well. And Wes Charge as contrary as it may sound I know of successful teams this year and in years past that can't press and have to rely on an aggressive half court .

If your personel restricts it, then sometimes the half-court games is the only option. Then it becomes a desperation thing when you get behind. I like to watch the teams that are good at, especially when you see a new wrinkle.

    • Deja vu all over again, 7 yrs apart. SMDH Does anybody talk to each other?
    • OK, well, that’s because two quarterbacks can’t start. That’s football 101. The main quarterback won the starting job, so he was on varsity, and the Seymour transfer did not win the starting job. He played some varsity. He was mainly junior varsity, and he balled out when healthy, so for the starting quarterback who’s been starting varsity since his freshman year, if you have any form of proof that he’s gotten worse, somehow, whether that means stats or whatnot, please feel free to share.
    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
